  1. The Maitre d' made a pasta dish for lunch on sea days in the middle of Le Muse; it was fantastic! The best one was pasta Aglio e Olio. A carbonara was also delicious! This will sound odd but one of our favorite appetizers was the dim sum. Who knew an Italian line could do that so well?!

Was there anything you really didn't care for?

  2. I have several:

First the moment you cross from the gangway onto the ship. It is almost magical as my "real life" melts away.

Second, my massage at 8am on the first morning. Don't care that the spa is over priced. It says my vacation has begun.

Third: sail away drink and the breeze from a moving ship HEAVEN!

Fourth: any time at the Martini Bar surrounded by friends new and old.

    16 weeks and counting.

All of the above but not the message? Think I'll try it in the next cruise!

  3. We have been on 11 Crystal Cruise and the status loyalty match would be the second tier Silver. This doesn't seem right. Crystal is luxury cruise line and quite expensive. Its really not even worth applying for the status match. Has anyone else had this experience?

  4. My DH and I will be flying to Amsterdam from So California two or three days prior to our cruise. I want to book our tickets since the economy fares seem pretty reasonable at the moment. I am looking at flights on Delta since they offer the best return flights with departures as late as 3:30 PM or so.

The debate I am having with myself is two-fold. First decision to be made is time of departure/arrival. Should we leave California in the early morning and arrive in Amsterdam in the early morning OR fly out from California mid-afternoon and arrive in Amsterdam mid-afternoon. The backstory to this debate is that we flew to Rome for a Mediterranean cruise and arrived in Rome in the early morning. We launched into two days of walking tours around Rome that same day. We then boarded the ship and cruised for 11 days - and flew home the day we disembarked. My DH did not feel as though his body adjusted to the time change at any point during our vacation. In fact' date=' he was pretty grumpy for the duration and was tired the entire trip. I do not want to chance a repeat of that experience.

Second quest has to do with picking class of service for our flights. I am not thrilled with the concept of spending more on the airline tickets than I am on the cruise itself (and we are spending a nice amount on the cruise). My thoughts were to either upgrade to Premium seats in Economy - more legroom may make for a more comfortable flight (upgrade is approx. $100 pp per flight so a total of $400 for each of the two flights both ways) OR book First/Business Class going to Europe and Economy with Premium seat upgrade on the flights home. My hesitation is spending an extra $1000 pp for the First/Business Class tickets for the flights to Europe. Spending an extra $2,000 is not a decision I can make on a whim so I am asking for feedback from the experienced travelers on these forums. I can guess that the Business Class tickets will be endorsed by the vast majority of folks who take the time to reply. So, the remaining question is which flights to choose based on departure/arrival times. What have other folks found to be best?

If it makes a difference, we board the cruise on July 1. I am looking at flying out the afternoon of June 27 - arriving in the afternoon of June 28 so we have that day to relax and two full days to tour Amsterdam. Or leaving on June 28 on an early morning flight that gets us to Amsterdam on the morning of June 29 (before 8 am). We could tour that day and the next before boarding the ship.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.[/quote']

We just flew Delta Amsterdam/JFJ In premium economy. It was just fine and comfortable. Wouldn't spend on business. Class. We were happy.

  5. We did this cruise earlier this year and used SPB Tours for two days and were very happy. They handled visas as do all tour companies. St Petersburg is overwhelming, I would suggest not to DIY.

We, also, used SPB they are top notch.

  6. Never had a shower issue in the YC. The step in is a bit high but other then that I love the shower, water pressure is fabulous. It has a hand held shower head so if your a happy sprayer you could wet up things or watch how to put it back in it's holder, make sure to angle it down. I use one at home so it's second nature for me to angle down and away from door/curtain. If it does get extra wet just throw an extra towel on the floor.

  7. There seems to be criticism of the shower arrangement on the Divina as well as reference to how the water is turned on and controlled. It seems to flood the room as well. Can someone give me a clearer idea of why this happens. We are booked in January .

  8. Try Walmart, Staples or do what we do. Just staple them on, staples in a few places on the tags. Been on over 100 cruises since 1985, never lost one!

I'm at a loss as to the problem. We just attached them to the luggage handle. They are cardboard and are sturdy. Or are you referring to paper ones printed from the computer?

  9. Agnesd- I am a lowly silver with Seabourn but I requested a status match just today via msc.com and received my reply with in hours. I am now Black status! Pleasantly surprised! Hopefully you will also get good news soon.

How many cruises are required for Silver? Crystal has a weird system. Loyalty levels go by number. Level 1 and jump by 5 all the way to 70!

  10. We retired with the knowledge and budget that we could spend about $25,000 a year on travel. We probably average 20K a year for the past 8 years since retirement on travel. Didn’t do much traveling before we retired. We charge everything on American Express and pay off monthly and get cash back I guess from the people that don’t pay off monthly.

That's our formula! Travel while we can!!

  11. I figured I would go to the source. This morning I emailed the supervisor of Voyagers Club. He/she emailed promptly this afternoon and said they knew about it and contacted headquarters to ascertain that they were working on it . He even looked up my res and assured me it would be straightened out before my cruise. I was quite impressed.
