  1. I know the cabin has a refrigerator, but does it have a freezer in it as well? I'm hoping to freeze a few bottles on the cruise to take out when visiting ports.

At home, when I go fishing or we go out to the lake or river, I freeze about 3 or 4 (or more) bottles of water per person going on my boat. I'll then use the bottles as the ice in my cooler where our lunches and/or snacks are. If I need some water, I'll take it out and it melts pretty quickly in the sun, but there's always enough to quench my thirst by the time ice melts.

  2. We did this, brought 2 bottles for our cabin and 2 bottles for our kids cabin and had 4 total to ourselves when we got on board. No questions asked. I even think if you brought MORE wine on board, they probably wouldn't say anything, but that is pushing it I think. Checking in at security, all they wanted to know was if you had any weapons and could care less about the wine, this was in Port Canaveral.

What port do you go out of on this cruise? It might make a difference.

  3. Well, since I took this cruise (me quoting myself below) with my daughter, I now scheduled a cruise for my wife and other daughter in April. After reading a lot of the comments along with what the Customs and Board Patrol state on their website, I have drawn up parental consent documents that we will sign and have notarized for their trip. I would hate for them to be left on the dock for a small (yet large) oversight of not having them. Even if RCCL doesn't even look at them, it's good insurance!

I didn’t need one. My wife and I were originally scheduled to go, just us two. Two weeks prior to the cruise, I caught the flu. I was in bed for a whole week. Well, since my wife sleeps next to me she caught it three days prior to us leaving. She said she wasn’t going, and I would have to either cancel or go with someone else. I called everyone I could, then my 13 year daughter came walking in the room and said, “What about me?” I called Royal Caribbean and found that I was only 1 or 2 hours away from changing the name on the booking…no charges either! I asked if we needed a letter and they said no because our last names were the same.

I suppose if last names are different, there may be a need for a letter though. I would call them and ask.

  4. You don't have to book a cruise to see the shore excursions. HAL wants you to know what is available to entice you to book the cruise. From the Holland website.

Actually we are looking in December. I realize there are a few on their website but typically I see multiple pages show up after booking. I suppose this could be so small of a port that these are all the excursions they offer...

Thanks for all the replies so far.

  5. We're contemplating a Holland America cruise, but try as I might, I can't find any excursion information for Santo Tomas de Castilla. I'm looking specifically for Hollands excursions, as I have read some sketchy issues with ones sold at the port or on the internet.

Since we haven't booked this cruise yet, we can't see what Holland offers. Has anyone taken any HAL excursions that you would be willing to share?

  6. We were just there on Friday, 4 days ago. The taxi rate of 17.00 was not accurate and we ended up paying 16.00 for our party of 5. Okay, so the driver got the extra 1.00 in tip form as he got a 20. We went into the park, spent 26.00 per person so we could do the tequila tasting. It was great! Bought 2 bottles as well.

We then walked through the gardens and enjoyed the different flora they had. We then found the crocodiles and thought that was nice too.

Found 5 chairs to sit at and ordered drinks (get a Michelada) and sat for a while just hanging out and watching the water and other patrons. Tried to go to the sea lion show but it started earlier than the brochure said so we missed it. Went to the pool bar and had a few drinks there with my 18 year old daughter.

We really wished we had more time to spend there, but everyone wanted to go back into town to do some shopping...so I was disappointed in that.

Otherwise, if we go back, I will tell all the women in my family we will be spending the whole day there rather than do any shopping.

  7. Is it possible to get in some zip-lining at Jungle Top, just outside of Coxen Hole port where we will be tied up, then go to Anthony's Key and do a Dolphin excursion? We will be there from 12:30 to 7:00.

From the google map, it looks like Jungle Top is a 5 minute walk from the port..any truth to that?

Anyone know the taxi rate from the port to Anthony's by chance?

    Thanks

  8. Best beach break in Costa May and why?

Looking for a place that is not loud, and can make everyone in my party (ages 14, 18, 2- 50 and a 77 year old). I know my 18 year old can drink...not happy about that but it's okay.

Want a clean beach, good food, comfy chairs and no pesky vendors.

Been to Maya Chan and loved it, considering it again. I want someone to talk me out of it.

  9. If there is any way you could attach (or scan and email...kimkeidel@comcast.net) the Compass for this itinerary, it would be GREATLY appreciated! There are no Western Compass' out there since it seems this is a new port grouping.

There is a BLOG about ROYAL CARIBBEAN (google what I capitalized with the blog part at the end, it's a no, no posting links on CC) that has Cruise Compasses from all the ships. It also has the same itinerary as the original poster, your cruise, and my cruise in less than 4 weeks.

  10. Or you could stay at one of the hotels that has the port parking coupon for 40 percent off ... It's a win - win. You can park at the port for much cheaper rates and not have to deal with a shuttle.

I agree, a win - win. This is what we will end up doing. Found a GREAT rate that we couldn't pass up at one of these hotels. And I don't know that I want to deal with a shuttle. Probably have too many time constraints/requirements.

  11. We have stayed at Country Inn and Suites many times, parked there and used their shuttle service. We've parked in front, in back and on the side. No issues at all. We try to park near a light post and make sure nothing is visible inside the car, but locked in the trunk if not going on the cruise. We typically clean out the inside of the car before leaving home as well. which helps. We've had absolutely no issues. No dings, door scratches, etc. Once a flock of seagulls (hopefully not squawking 'I Ran' :D ) made use of our clean roof and hood while we were away, but it easily washed off.

Good to hear! This is close to the hotel we are thinking about. Understand about the "flock of seagulls." ;)

    Thanks for the reply.

  12. We have just a little more than a month to go for our cruise. We're contemplating two scenarios. One is to stay in a local hotel in Port Canaveral then pay to park at the port. The second is to stay at a local hotel and use the shuttle provided and leave our vehicle at the hotel.

We think we have already picked our hotel with either scenario. My concern is how safe are our vehicles if we left them at the hotel and took the shuttle? Has anyone had any problems with break-ins or vandalism? Is the area where they are parked gated? What kind of security is there? Is there surveillance?

    Thanks
