  1. Did you go to the wheelhouse bar for their pub lunch anytime? Do you know if they had Shepard's Pie at all? Thanks. We'll be on her the last 2 weeks in January.

We just got off the Crown yesterday. There were two pub lunches in the Wheelhouse Bar during our 7-night cruise. They did not have Shepherd's Pie. There were 2 different menus for the 2 events. One lunch they had bangers and mash (they were great!), fish and chips, steak and kidney pie and something else which I can't remember. The 2nd lunch they had fish and chips, prawns which I think were breaded but I could be wrong and chips, and two other items which I can't remember (too much alcohol I think!!:D). For drinks they had Guinness (served in a frozen glass -no no no!) and you could also order a Shandy. We loved the pub lunches. Don't miss them, they are advertised in the Patters.

  2. I posted this afternoon a question about Celebrity's Sea and Stay Packages because I cannot find them neither on their website nor in their brochures. When I click on their Sea and Stay Packages button I am taken to ports, scroll down to sea and stay and there's nothing. I'm guessing the website "issues" are to blame for the missing information. I contacted my travel agent but she's....wait for it....on vacation - the nerve:D. I'm in no rush as my cruise isn't until fall of 2014. Hoping Celeb gets their I.T. people working harder to fix their ongoing issues.
  3. Thank you OP for your post as it will give others who are new to cruising some things to think about before they book. I love cruising mainly because I like being on the water - it's so relaxing. I'm embarking on a Princess cruise this Saturday and I hope that the photographers are not too intrusive. What I cannot tolerate is when the photographers come into the dining room on formal nights while you're eating to take your picture. You stated that you stayed in Venice for a day or two after your cruise. Would you mind sharing where you stayed as I'm booked on a Mediterranean cruise next year and plan to stay in Venice for a couple of days after the cruise. I know that you and your family will continue to enjoy whatever type of vacation you choose in the future. If I may recommend a cruise line that I think your teenager will enjoy - Royal Caribbean. A friend of mine went on her first cruise with her husband and teenage son on RCL and her son enjoyed their teen programs and the entire experience.

  4. I will reiterate what others have posted is all great advice. I too am one of those pasty white people who go to a tanning salon before I go on a cruise or vacation in the Caribbean. If not, I burn and that just ruins the vacation as you all know. I have to be careful of my nose and ears (have short hair) when out in the sun. I get some zinc in the way of diaper cream - works like a charm. I don't want to look like Rudolph in the middle of the Caribbean but I could guide the ship in the dark if I didn't put on the zinc.:D

  5. I'll be on the Crown this coming Saturday - can't wait!!:) We were once on a Princess cruise where the seas were rough and we missed one port of call because the Captain slowed the ship down for the safety and comfort of the passengers, and he decided at another port that the water was too rough to lower the life boats down to take the passengers ashore. Boy oh boy were people unhappy. Some people just find excuses to complain. We were compensated with free drinks and refunds of port charges and most people were ok with that. Better to be safe than to get into a bad situation.

  6. Bear in mind that there are 5 colors and all taste the same, also coffee, rum raisin and chocolate.

Thank you for this information. In about 9 days we'll be visiting Curacao and will be taking the Curacao tour.

  7. In both ports the ship docked and disembarked passengers on the Port side.

She was the only cruise ship in both ports on that itinerary. We left Curacao at 10pm-it got dark shortly after 6 so we had the pleasure of sitting outdoors by the river (estuary) drinking cheap beer (Heineken $2 a bottle) and looking at the Crown in the distance all lit up. There will be photos when the time comes in the review, and video of the famous swing bridge opening to let ships pass through.

Norris, this is the best review ever! We're sailing on the Crown Nov. 16th and your review, photos, and videos are great. I thank you for this posting of what you did in Curacao as we've never been there at night before (only during the daytime) and we were wondering what to do. After dinner having a evening drink by the river sounds like escaping completely!:)

  8. Thank you for all your responses. It appears that Princess needs to upgrade their pillows - maybe they will on the next round of dry docks for their ships. It's settled. I'm taking my own pillow and as one of you has said "where there's a will there's a way".

  9. The countdown has begun for our November 16th Caribbean cruise. A quick question - does Princess offer a pillow selection (soft, medium, firm) on their ships? An MVA resulted in a neck injury that has haunted me for years and I prefer a medium to firm pillow to a soft one to prevent excruiating neck pain . OR should I bring my own?

  10. Nothing beats a Harvey's Bristol Creme colada. It is the best thing I have ever tried. I highly recommend one. It also has less alcohol annd you can have a few with less damage.

What is in a dirty banana?

My Mom loves Harvey's Bristol Crème. I will have to tell her about this new drink when we sail on the Crown Princess in about 3 1/2 weeks. Also I love martinis, the fruity ones, like Cosmo, raspberry (Princess used to make a smashing raspberry martini with real raspberries), and chocolate.

  11. I am the planner for our group - it's all women in the family that go cruising. After our March 2005 cruise I already had the cruise brochures out looking for the perfect itinerary. We booked in April for our Feb. 26/06 cruise. In May we booked the flight. In June we booked the hotel. After being on two cruises in the past two years there isn't much left to buy for my upcoming cruise. Except maybe another pair of earrings, or another fancy dress. I am also making a mental note of the outfits I'm wearing this summer that I think I will take with me in Feb. 2006. Before I put the summer wardrobe away...oh, don't say it.....in September, I will make a preliminary list of my wardrobe with accessories so I don't forget the match ups.

  12. Three passengers (of which I was one) wearing the exact same bathing suit on our Celebrity cruise this past February. Now, I confess that one of the people is a friend of mine (I didn't know she bought the same bathing suit as I). The third person we did not know at all. Needless to say we turned quite a few heads that day.:D
