  1. Or maybe, like many of us, they never looked at their cabin assignment again until final payment time and that's when it came to their attention that they had been switched. You don't know. OP doesn't know and neither do the rest of us. As you say, maybe you are just being cynical by implying that the original bookers of E731 are weasels.

There are many scenarios that can play out...as u say we don't have all the "facts"...but I have been given many incorrect "facts" by princess,

which adds fuel to my fire.

The fact is I purchased a product...I had not accepted delivery on it, someone came in and said I had that product first, I want it back and the merchant decided to sell it to them too and gave me a less choice product without even informing me.

and the Biggest fact of all is they value another client and their TA over me ...I accept that.....just wish they would be straight with me....

  2. I still don't think I understand how OP got the cabin yo begin with? Did you see it was available and call Princess and ask to be assigned into it? YES was it just the random cabin you were assigned to, and you liked it?

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

And after having it assigned to me I had it until I made my final payment about 3 weeks later.

My thought was and it makes sense for all of us who have cruised for years, someone had a deposit on a much desired cabin and pulled out a few weeks before final payment.

Tons of people secure desired cabins with their $100 future deposits right when the sailings come out.

  3. I agree! I would continue fighting for that cabin. It is my preferred cabin!

Hi "Coral" it's been awhile...anymore river cruises? we did a Christmas Market on the Danube last year, it snowed, it was wonderful.

I think my fight is gone....simply stated

if Coral's TA or Princess made a mistake she would have gotten E731 back because she has many more sail days with Princess than I do....and that is what this really came down to...

Let's just say my 75 days got trumped by a client with 400 days....

Princess made a good business choice....I don't blame them..

I just think when I have made final payment, prior to the other pax that the cabin is mine!

  4. The OP says that she had the cabin for several weeks. At that point, in my opinion, it's hers. The original bookers don't get to hang onto an upgrade for weeks and weeks and then say, nope, we want our old cabin back. If they don't act within a reasonable time frame (24-48-72 hours up to maybe one week to allow for total ditziness), then too bad for them.

Sounds like those people got upgraded to an AA and then decided to hold out hoping for a suite; when they didn't get one, they wanted their old AD back. But I could just be being cynical . . .

LOL...cynical? aren't we all or maybe I should only speak for myself.

I like your thought though about them holding out, you could be on to something...however I don't think that was the case. Maybe their TA was holding out.....

Just makes me feel better hearing everyone's opinion....

  5. From your account, someone else booked that cabin before you did, and got an unwanted upgrade, and Princess placed the cabin back into inventory, and you booked it. When the previous people discovered the change, they demanded the cabin back. Many people have posted this same situation on CC. These people were just lucky to get the cabin back, but that was bad luck for you. Sooo...who really should have the cabin? EM

I made my final payment before the other couple did so I should get the cabin. ;)

  6. It used to be that you couldn't access Cruise Personalizer during the week before, but for my last several cruises, I only was blocked out 24 hours before.

This is how the system is working presently, you can still print out your boarding pass and luggage tag prior to 24 hours...These will ID your cabin....

I have always kept tabs on my cabin number...this is the first time I have ever had a change, without being notified.

I am sure my situation was a exception, not the rule. It certainly is very disappointing.

I m happy for those of you who have been visited by the upgrade fairy.

Thanks for the suggestions and input.........

  7. Also, I'd suggest you look at cabins that appear available on the ship to lobby for a specific room......This is NOT what cruising is about! And if you have another cruise on the books, I'd mention that too..........

Good suggestion...I think I will probably just downgrade to an available balcony cabin on the stern.....A large balcony is more important to me than the room size. I also prefer to look directly down at the water and be covered.

  8. OP - my question still stands. When did you book this trip? Was it months ago? A few weeks ago, etc.? I think the timing matters. If you booked it a couple of days before final payment then it's plausible the "original" cabin booker had been involuntarily upgraded then noticed it and wanted his/her cabin back. However, if you booked it months ago and you were given a different cabin at final payment, then Princess' story doesn't make sense. When did you book this trip?

It was the end of Oct. E731 became available shortly after I booked roughly 3-4 weeks b4 final payment. So I had it for a few weeks, made final payment with it and then 2 days later it was given back to the person who had it before....so they did not notice the change in their cabin until the final paymentdate.

Certainly it is possible they had booked a year out, maybe it was marked do not upgrade...I don't know, is all I know now is I was not informed about the change and discovered it a week later.

  9. BTW...according to the CR's there is no one I can talk to higher than them.....and once the decision is made it is final....

Is all I can say is someone's TA had to save face or princess overlooked that the guest had put no upgrade, I doubt that though as the computer would have made the change...someone screwed up and it wasn't me.....and they did not even have the courtesy to inform me....

  10. the saga continues....

I was offered an upgrade in the same CAT and 25. SBC...I was insulted....I wanted my paid in full cabin back!

The rep even told me she could upgrade me to The Dolphin deck "same cabin" I informed her that it had a twin beds con...that's why I did not book it originally...then she looks ..and says I guess u are right...

I wanted the cabin back I paid for:(......NO dice...so I told her I would think on it and call her back.............

More later my GF is here to pick me up...

    suggestions...connections????????

  11. sorry so many details but you asked;)

    Finally...I get a rep...who I explain by story too.........

My concern was I had not been contacted about the change, I had made final payment and if I had not looked at my booking I would have have never known.

Come to find the cabin change was made on final payment day at 10:05am...I had made my final payment 2 days before.....

The CR rep told me that they had upgraded the other client and since they had the cabin first and wanted it back I lost out..... tough luck...it was a management decision and too bad.....Can you believe it?

  12. continuing.......visiting adult distraction....

...after I waited about 20 minutes she told me from what she could tell it was a maintenance problem...but no one would be able to help me until tomorrow. Maintenance right? for a sailing 3 months out. try again....

So Monday morning I call early wait time 10 minutes to have call answered 40 minutes before I get to Customer Relations and with the transfer I am disconnect.... So I call back again explain myself and another 30 minute wait... for CR

BTW there are no longer Supervisors;);) at the reservation level...

They must call to CR, then the CR can give you their direct number....

  13. I lose long posts sometimes or get distracted...

Anyway, I have another sailing that is coming up and I booked a Guarantee so I was looking to see if it had been assigned and decided to look at this sailing and was shocked to find my cabin was moved 2 doors down.

yes, I did put no upgrade.

Now this was on Sunday morning and the rep..assured me she would find out why it was changed.....I told her it would probably have to wait tell tomorrow because from past experience, no one that can do anything is working at princess on a Sunday.....

  14. Thanks everyone for your replies, I will read everyone of them when I return.....I was gone this am and I'm going out to lunch somewhere but thought I would give u more details

now remember I have not read all the replies...:)

    This is all from memory....

First of all this a Sapphire Princess 7 day sailing the room E731...

I booked another cabin with Princess about 2 months ago and about 2 weeks later I noticed E731 was available...so I called Princess and made the change yes I have the cabin # on a Statement copy as well as my final payment copy.

I am going to send this thru and continue on another post

  15. The article says $200/pp. I seem to remember that it's $300/pp. The cruise line will not knowingly allow you to violate the PVSA. What happens is that the ship is fined and they pass the fee along to the passenger so they avoid this by not allowing the passenger to board. So saying, I'll just pay the fine won't work. :) Plus, you may not be allowed to fly to the next port to meet the ship without a passport.

It was $300. A few years ago my traveling companion paid it. It was a short 4 day cruise on RCI...LA-San Diego-CAT-Ensenada ...she became very sea sick the first evening, even had a shot on the ship but decided to get off in SD...the ship's staff really made it difficult for her to disembarked, I handled all the details....interesting to say the least.

  16. Has this happened to any of you?

I made my final payment on a much desired mini-suite, stating no upgrade. Then last week when I was looking at my sailing I noticed my cabin was changed. I received no call or email from princess. So I called them. After waiting on hold for over 40 minutes to speak to customer relations I was told that the cabin was originally booked by someone else, they received an upgrade and didn't want it so I lost the cabin...needless to say I am very disappointed.

However someone else did post this...

  18. I could be wrong but I think the issue is children at the Chef's Table which is advertised as a 21 and older event. You should be fine at any other specialty dining venue. At Chops you will have your own table.

Can someone show me the link and not emails where the Chef's table is advertised as an adult only event?

Everyone keeps on making these claims that RCI is not following their rule/policy and I have yet to see anything in black and white.

    Remember RCI's new slogan....WHY NOT??????

And have you seen Celebrity's....... "X the Rules"

  19. There were five courses; Smoked Duck Salad, Trio of Soups, Pan fried Scallops and Crab Cakes, Grilled Beef Tenderloin, Passion Fruit Creme Brulee and chocolates. Each course had a full serving, sometimes two, of the appropriate wine. Reidel Crystal was used for each pour. The history of the wine and why it was selected was explained. Most of the wine was in the $60 to $100 range.

So do you think you received more generous pours, because the kids were there? There can be advantages.;)

  20. I think they were staying in one of the most expensive suites. The concierge seem to know the father quite well. I believe this is the longest thread on Cruise Critic that I have ever started. The last long thread was several years ago; "Should teens have a curfew on the Voyager of the Seas" (or be allowed to roam the decks until 4 in the morning). That got quite heated but we know how it turned out. RCCL did impose a curfew. ;)

And I am still here..LOL....I've really enjoy the opinions.

Since the crefew was imposed ......it is very possible then that they will state age in their description, rather than emails and as another stated, they don't think their is a problem if no one speaks up and I would imagine from these posts many will be calling C&A.

I am glad you had an enjoyable time, I would have felt and responded as you did, even though we live on opposite coasts. I am in O.C., CA. Maybe it is because we each have 23 year old sons;);), I have 2 younger too.

Enjoy and thanks for posting something that has entertained me.
