  1. In our case Em's is only 10 but I'll try to answer none the less :)

I'm not sure you'd actually spot her, certainly not unless your table companions were so dull that you'd taken to analysing all the other guests in the restaurant.

You would see a table of people enjoying their dining experience with a little girl either chatting away or sitting quietly with said Nintendo under the table on her lap. You would need to position yourself to the side of her to spot it though. I presume you are aware that a Nintendo DS is around the same size as a mobile phone and makes no noise with it's volume turned down. Animal crossing requires no jerky movements on the part of the player. You are walking round in an imaginary world. Imagine teacher is another game she enjoys playing which is nice and quiet.

I find threads like this really fascinating. Have none of you ever seen well behaved children?

I also wonder how comfortable many of you are dining out. A meal in a good restaurant should be a relaxed affair, you don't have to sit bolt upright and talk in hushed tones. You need to learn a few ground rules so the staff can go about their job to full effect and my belief is that those ground rules should be learnt at an early age. Some of the skills are unique to dining out, others are basic behavioural building blocks for every day use.

If we ever cruise together let's have a meal with one another in Chops. If at the end of the night you can put your hand on your heart and say you haven't enjoyed yourselves because Em's was sat at the table than I'll pick up the tab. If you have enjoyed yourselves we'll each pick up our respective bills.

    Keep smiling

    Henry :)

Sounds like you have a wonderful daughter and you are very proud of her..but If I was at your table and engage your daughter in conversation, I would hope she would find me more interesting than her game playing.

    ;):D

  2. LOL.......how can this discussion still be going on?..we all do need a life......;):o:D

We have no information about how this family made their reservation, heck for all we know they could have been a relative of the Captain, they could have been comp., they might have been staying in the most expensive suite.

Exceptions are always made..........and rules are always broken....an people interpret guidelines differently.........it's life.

  3. I have come to the conclusion that some folks just don't get it. This thread is simply about two young children seated at The Chef's Table for dinner in a venue which RCCL specifically states the guests are to be at least 21 years of age. Folks who paid for an adults only experience did not receive the experience they paid for. It is a very simple concept to grasp.

Actually, is all we have seen on this thread is a single email from a reservation that states guests should be over 21 and a link from RCI's site that says nothing regarding age. I have yet to see something that says what RCI policy is. Exceptions are made every minute on these ships. They certainly have made plenty for me and my family. After all it ia all about

    pleasing the guest and profit.

For example 2 weeks ago on our cruise one of my sons(23) forgot his formal shoes, we called the pursers desk...she said formal wear closed at noon, it was 5pm but she would contact the tailor, we received a call back with in 15 minutes asking for the size and they delivered them to our son's room.

The OP had an enjoyable time at the Chef's table as they stated with the children present.

I would have been as shocked to see them as the OP was, but certainly would not leave a venue because I was concerned about my company.

No one knows the circumstance of this family and the reason for bringing children. I am sure if they would have been disruptive the OP would have handled the situation differently.

I still think this is one of the more interesting discussions I've had on the boards, because as much as I would not want to share the Chef's table with children, I think it is interesting that so many who are posting are so quick to judge.

I think we all need to be more like the OP, gracious and accepting....like we hope all will be towards us when we become grummy, old and feeble.

Re: a question about what ships have the cheif's table

Here is the link for enhancement to the Radiance by the summer of 2011.

When I did my search of the internet I just copied what first came up using Royal Carribean chef's table...and I forgot that RCI had recently borrowed this idea from another cruise line that has it on most of their ships.

  5. Totally agree. But what does that have to do with RCI allowing children in a venue that is designated as adult?

As to advertised as adult venue, RCI web site states that Specialty Dining is for over 14 after a certain time. And OP stated that they read age restrictions. :)

Obviously, if RCI does not state in print anywhere on-line or onboard that there are age restrictions - then this whole thread/discussion is a moot point..... :D

True, but the discussion has been more interesting than being on time for my eye appt. Later

  6. To whome ever mentioned they did not want to be seated at a table in the MDR with a childe because they would have to curtail the subject matter of thier conversation. What in the world do you discuss at dinner with a table full of strangers that can't be discussed with in the ear shot of a child. Most conversations I have that are not fit for children are not fit with anyone but close friends and family if them. I would ask for a change in subject with children present or not...

At the chef's table...the main topic of discussion is the FOOD and Wine parings. Heck your mouth is full most of the time:D

  7. I totally disagree. If you leave when the children arrive then the cruise line would not have the right to charge you. You bought an advertised product - an adult dinner. RCI did not provide that product. Period. They are the ones not keeping their end of the deal.....

Since neither of us have had this experience we really do not know what the cruise line would do.

And as you can see from my last post at least on Radiance they do not advertize it as adult only. Also without drinks the charge is only $60. so they are catering to all.

  8. Okay, first of all, being well behaved has nothing to do with having a child at an adult specified activity. A pet can be well behaved but I would not want a pet at Chef's Table either. ;)

Secondly, one does not have to hate children or not understand the joy of children to not want children at an adult activity. In fact, one can dearly love children and still not want them an an adult activity. :)

When RCI advertises and presents an activity as an adult venue then they have the obligation to provide just that to their guests. Period. If RCI is concerned about being family friendly they can either advertise the activity as available to everyone. Or if they do not want to lose the income from those that want an adult dinner, then they could easily designate one night of a 7 night cruise as "family night".

In any case, having a policy and then not adhering to it is just going to make for dissatisfied guests....... :(

Rules which many have now become suggestions seem to never be in-forced on RCI ships. What's new?

Having adults at the table doesn't guarantee a pleasant experience.

What I found on the RCI site under the class ship Radiance

    Chef's Table

Experience our most intimate and decadent onboard dining at Chef's Table. In this exclusive space, 14 guests will enjoy a specially-prepared menu of gourmet selections, chosen by the evening’s featured chef, who will personally present each course. Before the wine-paired meal, guests have the opportunity to meet and mingle at a cocktail party.

  9. I think if you are curious go for it....

We did it last fall on NOTS. I had no expectations, so was not disappointed in the "acting"...participation was minimal 2 ladies were singled out I was one of them .......the dinner and 'the who done it' was rushed...but it was nice to go once just to experience it.

Portofino tables are really not set up for looking at acting, me have been to 3 or 4 mystery murders in our area and certainly it does not compare.

As far as the the Tiramisu, presentation was beautiful and taste yummy.

The fillet was superior to Chops on this sailing......

I found both the specialty restaurants on NOTS only average...Atmosphere enhances the taste of the meal for me and there is none in these restaurants. Each to his own.

  10. We did a Disney package with her with our kids in 1998....then had another package booked in 2000.....we had our deposit in and about 3 weeks later they were out of business( I remember reading and hearing on the news that the ship just let people off at the ports they were at and it was up to the pax to find their way home) lucky for us we were able to get our deposit refunded from our Visa, but not without alot of paper work....once Disney took to the Seas...the big Red boat could not compete.....Fond memories.......

  11. Tom, thanks for putting in the time....

So my question is do people want protection from Rain or Sun or peeping passsengers?

In January we were on the Coral, C333

there was an over hang of a few feet...but it never provided any shade on our balcony it was always sunny. I took special interest in this because we read on this board it would be partly covered, I was thinking we would have some shade.

So my thoughts are, princess doesn't comment because, people have different reasons for wanting a certain balcony and the cruise line can't make a blanket statement because it depends on the direction the ship is sailing, the weather, the positon of the sun and if that peeping passenger has a long neck:)

  12. hi David....

Actually that first day is viewed as a travel day so it is not like you are missing out on anything...it is a 10 day cruise...think of it this way they are puting everyone up in a hotel(the ship) the night before....because there are few flights that go direct to Tahiti from LAX ........ I am going on the 8-22-05 cruise and checked

all flight possibilities....from my investigation the am flight is on air france and the return flight is leaving in the am...so if you used air deviation wouldn't you have to leave early missing that last day, I mean I don't think they would let you come in on Air France and leave on ATN Or would they...just food for thought...

Around 11-12 is when you board.
