  1. Hi,

My TA contacted Celebrity and they said there is a$65 per booking charge to leave the ship a day early. We arrive in Buenos Aires on a Saturday and the ship overnights there and disembarkation is on Sunday. Has anyone had any experiences with this. I thought we could just walk off as it is the same port, but I guess I was wrong. I know I was told to notify the ship when I got on, but this does not seem to be the case. Any tips or advice will be accepted.

    Thank you,

    Andrea

  2. I am on the Jan 6, 2019 Eclipse cruise. If anyone is on this one and has a group or wants to start a group for tours of Ushuaia, Montevideo or Punta del Este,  please let me know. I will also post on my roll call.

  3. Hi Lee, Edgar contacted me to see who the coordinator was for our cruise. I just contacted them on my own so I do not know who and if there is a coordinator for the Jan 6, 2019 Eclipse South America cruise. I would love to use him as his prices are great. I was planning on doing the winery tour in Montevideo. If you can help me let me know. How did you book yours? Were you part of a group?

I am glad you are ok. We used to live in Agoura Hill and my friends were evacuated. I hear it was awful.

  4. Thanks Lee, I booked 3 tours with Tourguide.......,They were very reasonably priced and sound just right. I booked the Ushuaia tour to the park, the Montevideo to the winery and city tour, and the Punta del Este city tour. I am still looking for a tour in Punta Arenas but I really  want to see the Penguins but the reviews are not great when it comes to transportation. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

  5. Thank you all for your help! We were able to upgrade to a 2A cabin on the 7th deck midship starboard for a total of $40!! Yay, we are happy with our choice. No more lift levers to block our outward view. As you have said I think the clear view and no smoking is a winner.

Thanks again you guys really helped me.

  6. We are cruising from San Antonio, Chile to Buenos Aires in January and right now we can change our cabin for a bit more to the starboard side of the ship in a cabin that is not partially obstructed. We are on the 6th deck port side midship as we wanted to be low and port side to see the Chilean Fiords. The cabin we are looking at is on the starboard side on deck 7 midship with a life boat below but clear outward. It will cost about $150 each to upgrade. Is it worth it to give up the less expensive cabin with an ok view. Is there really more to see on the port side?

    Thanks,

    Andrea

  7. Hi,

What nights have you had chic nights? Is it always the second night and then what? I want to have a plan for my specialty dining and would like to eat in the MDR on those nights. We will be on the South America, Santiago to Buenos Aires cruise (14 nights) in January. Also on the first night is there always Prime Rib in the MDR? Thanks for any help.

  8. Hello,

We are planning to leave the ship the day we dock in BA and go straight to a hotel. (Intercontinental) That way we will miss the hassle of disembarking with everyone the next day and then have to find a place for our luggage and rest. We have been to BA before and have taken the above walking tour. It was very good. My husband wants to visit as many restaurants in BA as we have time for. We will ask the hotel for a late checkout, as our flight does not leave until 9pm the day after we get off the ship. I think we can pay for it. The market at San Telmo is very interesting but if you get a chance I would definitely take an organized 4-8 hour tour. I think the airport holiday inn has day rates.

    Good luck

  9. We sailed on a transatlantic last year on the Koningsdam and thought it was a beautiful ship. The balcony cabins feel a bit smaller than the celebrity cabins but the signature suites are wonderful and less expensive than Celebrities suites. They are very spacious and the balconys are great. Also the signature suites are well placed on the ship. I loved the Dutch bakery on board. In a lot of ways it is actually nicer than Al Bacio. You can get Dutch pancakes, apple tarts, cookies and main dishes. They have a great coffee bar and alcoholic drinks as well. The area is really nice and some of the tables are along the ocean side.

What I really liked about dining is that everyone ate in the same dining rooms. No class distinctions, like better food for suites. All the food was delicious. There is no need to pay for specialty dinning, but there was a wonderful French restaurant and they have Americas Test Kitchen with demonstrations and classes. We ate lunch and dinner at the Pinnacle grill but I think it is best at lunch for $10. The cabin staff are very professional and seem to do more than on Celebrity(towel animals).

I am very sensitive to smoke and was not bothered even once by it. People may be older, but I like that because it is quieter, no kids running up and down hallways and older people are very respectful of others. We are 50-60s and fit right in. I like the solarium on Celebrity better than the pools on Hal, but they have a great spa and you can purchase weekly passes for the thermo pool. Also another great thing about the ship is it is a mid size ship, so not 5000 people! The entertainment was ok, we had one or two great shows, otherwise there is other good entertainment across the ship.

My husband is not a big fan of HAL but we had a good time and I loved the new ship, the crew, the food and things to do. I would not hesitate to book again.
