  1. Correct, wasn't in Princess Patter and we also went to the main dining rooms - all doors firmly closed:( I've been wondering if this was just a Golden Princess thing - in other words when we board her again on 3rd January do we make a mad dash to HC before everyone else then scurry away to our room before the hoards arrive?

I would dearly love to have a leisurely quiet lunch in the main dining room instead:)

  2. Hi I've only been on one cruise so far - Golden Princess. When we boarded the ship we couldn't find any restaurants open, only the Horizon Court, International Cafe and Trident Grill. Double checked the Princess Patter and there was no main dining room open on embarkation day.

My question is for those who have cruised on the Golden in particular.....was there a main dining room open for embarkation day when you cruised on her or do they always channel everyone to Horizon Court on that ship?;)

  3. Hi ya'all, I can't decide whether to handle all travel arrangements myself (and book directly with Princess for the cruise itself) or to use a travel agent to handle it all.

I am well capable of doing all arrangements myself, as I was a travel agent many years ago......I used a travel agent to book my first cruise (we were booked in a suite) - things went relatively well but I didn't receive even $1 OBC from that agent.

He left and passed my next cruise booking onto a colleague who has made mistake after mistake and I only found out some of them by scrupulously checking each detail (one was a really big mistake) and I wouldn't be at all surprised to find there's again no OBC from them when get board the ship in January.

I'm left not wanting to book through that agency again and have made preliminary enquiries with another award winning agent (whom I thought must SURELY be better than the agent I'm currently with).

But then, I'm thinking maybe I'm better off just handling it all myself?

Note: I'm a Kiwi and our agents down here don't seem to be anywhere near as generous with OBC as the USA and Canadian agents appear to be:(

  4. Hi ya'all, notice a lot of cruisers book B2B cruises on same ship, and I'm tryin' to find how to identify where a ship is going to see what options for B2B may be available. However, when I do a search by specific ship there seems to be large gaps in dates.

Now, I'm pretty sure that Princess won't be leaving ships hanging around in a port somewhere when it could be out on the water earning money, so what am I doing wrong?

I'm just trying to learn how to do it - because this is for an idea for a cruise in 2020 - and yes, I do plan waaaaay in advance. So I know I'm not gonna see anything for that year yet, I just need to know HOW to find the B2B cruises please:halo:

  5. I asked pretty much the same question a month or so ago on this forum and I was assured that although I could only buy a FCC for myself, when I go to use it, anyone travelling with me in same suite would also be able to book with just a $100 deposit......dunno if that helps? :)

  6. Forgot to add; I was completely blown away by the level of service we received. We were in a suite, but we had a couple of friends in an inside stateroom and another couple of friends in a balcony stateroom; and all said the same thing - they were all impressed with the service:)

  7. Drinks Package: sorry can't help with this as didn't buy one.

Formal Nights: what you suggest sounds more than suitable:)

Deck space/chairs: heaps of deck space and chairs although there are I believe always some 'deck chair hoggers' who put a towel on a deck chair to make it look like they're coming right back, but in reality they're down in the buffet!:)

Movies Under The Stars (MUTS) to be honest I didn't take too much notice how many movies they were playing my first cruise was only four nights and I'm pretty sure there were at least two?

Trivia/Bingo - regular opportunities for both. I did play bingo with a friend but I thought it was quite expensive - I guess I'm just not really a gambler!

Anytime dining - anytime will be in one dining room - Bernini if I recall, deck 5.

There are lots of people who will know far, far more than I do who I am sure will be happy to help as well.

I think (just like any experience) it's what we make of it that counts. There will always be bad reviews and there will always be good reviews - I think there's been a mixed bag for Golden Princess but all I can say is I loved her (and as I mentioned, I will be cruising again on her in January), and I recall one couple on the cruise who said they go wherever Golden Princess is going. In other words, it's all about the ship for them not necessarily the itinerary, which I thought was interesting:)

  8. Hi Lyss00......have you checked out the Beverage Packages recently on the website or was the last time you checked it out was before they upgraded the website? Just wondering as its definitely only showing coffee cards and beer!

I'm wondering if the Beverage Packages offered are different depending up on which cruise you are booked on; we are cruising from Melbourne down to Tasmania and across to Adelaide on Golden Princess leaving 3rd Jan 2018 - perhaps they don't sell the full alcohol packages if you're not 'leaving the country' so to speak?

    It's confusing!
