Well over 100K cases in Fl last week. From a public health perspective, I don’t think they are worried about 50-100 folks getting off the ship with Covid. The issue is so much bigger than that.
Correct. OP seems fixated that a few cruisers are a danger when they are just a drop in the bucket once off the ship.

Will those disembarking be released to the port cities and allowed to roam around until returning home or are the known cases required to quarantine? It seems the concern of infecting those on land is completely absent. Is this variant so mild, no one cares anymore?
Seriously? There were 189,000 positive cases in the US, YESTERDAY. I don't think anyone is worried about a few cruise passengers "roaming around" when the entire country is already infested with covid.....

The captain admitted the crew gets tested only weekly. so why wait until Tuesday when we boarded Saturday?
The ships are full of customers all day every day, why would it matter?

Thanks for the report. Makes me happy we shifted all of this winters cruises to 2023.

The Cruise lines are going to drive the customer base into the ground....
Hundreds of situations/locations to devise protocols for and monitor, limited number of employees half qualified to do the monitoring. CDC breathing down their necks. Media ready to pounce on every so called "outbreak". It's a miracle they're doing as well as they are.
Customers are lining up to go, no sign of them being "driven into the ground", whatever that means.

I’m looking at the new people coming on board like deer in headlights and I’m just hoping to heaven that we don’t have the same situation as we had last week. Keeping an open mind and an open heart and looking forward to another relaxing week with the family.
Cheers!Have a good week 🙂 What ports are you scheduled to visit?

The cruise lines themselves are at fault. RCI, Carnival and HAL ships have had outbreaks because of extremely poor onboard management following their own rules of COVID safety. Passengers are not being "reminded" to mask up, people are crowding into small spaces, even in the pre-covid days these Oasis class ships were over crowded and difficult to move around with our bumping into others. They also attract passengers with the proclivity to flaunt rules and protocols. First thing is to enforce the rules carefully created to manage cover, second is to swiftly control disobedient passengers into selected covid control cabins somewhere below sickbay and get them off the ships at first opportunity and make sure they don't ever sail again. Its past time to not be strict. Enforce your own protocols for everyone's safety.
You've sailed RCCL, HAL and Carnival recently?

However…
All the advertising and messaging suggested to us we would have a relatively normal cruising experience.
You actually expected that? We moved all our winter cruises to January/February 2023. MAYBE cruising will be close to normal then............. but maybe not.

So tell us… what’s the magic number for social distancing for an Aerosolized virus in a MDR with hundreds of people? How far is far enough away?
But if you wear a mask while walking to your table all is well........

Unfortunately the enhanced cleaning is almost useless. The virus effectively spreads through the air. They do fog at night sometimes. Also useless at that point.
Exactly.

We are still docked at Curacao. Five hours later. No idea what they want to do next. All the shops on board and the casino are closed because we are in Port. holding pattern…
They may be communicating with Aruba to see if they are going to be allowed to dock. Regardless, seems like they would want to pull out of Curacao to open things up and make some money at the shops and casino. Assume people are allowed out of their rooms in general? Hope you can enjoy the rest of the cruise wherever it may go 🙂

Someone who is on that ship right now wrote the following on FB:
"From the “things that do not go as planned” department… we are on the newsbreaking Royal Carribean Odyssey of the Seas… on first night we had to return as a passenger lied and came down with full-blown covid. We just arrived in beautiful Curacao but due to the crew having FIFTY cases and two passengers sick, we have been denied permission to disembark. Are we upset? No! Not at all. Totally support decisions and are making most of it. The safety protocols are terrific on the ship, and we are keeping at a safe distance from others mostly staying on our balcony. And we saw a shark! Love and light to you all… #royalcarribean #covidcruise"
Royal should be happy there are people content to sit on their balcony. We love a balcony cabin but would have no desire to spend most of our time there.

We never worry about anything and just go and have a great time.
Good for you! 🙂 We have kept travelling plenty the last two years. Not cruising yet as we aren't interested in the restrictions and changes. Looking forward to 3 months in Free Florida soon.

If you are thinking this much about it, I wouldn't go.
Sums up what I was going to say. If someone has that many concerns and questions, how much would they really enjoy a cruise right now.

RI is bringing it back starting Monday. I have to get out of this place.
Sorry to hear that. Things can change overnight, but so far the Governor in Michigan isn't leaning toward any new restrictions. She wants to get re-elected next year. Following the science ya' know.....

Not everywhere "up north". Michigan dropped indoor masking about 5 months ago. Most states have, except the coasts and Illinois.

AFAIK it is air travel only. No test required to drive from Canada or Mexico into the US. No test required to arrive back into the US on a cruise ship.
It would make no sense to have a half a$$ policy testing air travelers for show only and not apply it to drivers or cruisers. So you're probably right......
-
I think the one day period for air travel into US is official now? Wondering if that applies to cruise passengers also.

Agree. RCCL and the other lines are very fortunate so many people are happy to mask up and sit on a ship for a week without getting off.
