Typical family drama. If they were invited, I would bet that many of them would change their tune.

Sometimes it's good to tell the family to piss off and mind their own business. Particularly, the gossipy busy-bodies who always have something to say about everything.

THIS! I have family that literally finds every terrible news article ever written about cruising and sends them to me before, during and after the cruise. So I send them back articles about airports, hotels and car rental scams/issues/shutdowns :-) Family sucks sometimes; ignore them and have fun. Cruising is what you make of it. If you go in with a positive attitude (and how could you not being on your honeymoon and away from work!) then you will have a lovely time.

I have a few questions as well. Although this post has helped me some, Im still not sure where to stay.  We disembark in the morning and are staying in Venice for two days.  I think I will take your advice and stay somewhere in Venice that is on a canal and the atmosphere is traditional or vintage. Would the hotel be able to hold our luggage while we explore during the day? Do most hotels provide a water taxi to the airport?

We think we will do our own thing and just get lost in the city. Walking, taking gondola rides, getting gelato, searching for the best coffee and finding a romantic dinner place. Not wanting to spend a fortune, but hope to find something priced around 150-180.

I also spent two days before in Venice. Stayed in a lovely hotel in Venice (Hotel Al Duca). No water taxi included but I arranged a shared transfer prior to arriving and that was wonderful. Then took a private one from the hotel to the cruise port. After the cruise, I stayed another two days and this time stayed in Mestre, across from the train station. Originally, the plan had been to use the train to get to some other areas (like Verona) but the weather was not great so opted to go into Venice again via train. Worked out well and the hotel held the luggage that first day until I came back to check in after 4pm. The hotel also arranged for the taxi to the airport. I suspect most hotels will hold luggage but check reviews and see what people say. I spent several hours researching locations for hotels, recommendation and reviews. This website helped quite a lot too https://europeforvisitors.com/venice/

Can I book excursions now but pay for them when on the ship ? I have the free at sea exursion package, but don't want to pay now & end up with loads of credit on the ship.Or can I pay for my exursions now using the free at sea offer, & just actually pay the balance i.e exursion cost less $50. Hope that makes sense.

Yes, just call the excursion telephone number at NCL and they will book them with no charge. They will then send you a confirmation and you will also see them if you log in myncl.com. I did this last time and then after each excursion, you will see the excursion price less the $50 on your on board account after each one was completed.

  4. Canadians can buy travel insurance that covers pre-existing conditions but it is abhorrently expensive and you must be aware of the rules. To the point where many simply don't take the chance. Insurance through the employer sometimes has basic travel insurance but nothing that would cover you 100%. I'm only 40 but I still buy travel insurance, just in case. This is an older article but could help the OP navigate the clear as mud world of travel insurance:

I've also heard good things about RBC travel insurance as well as Blue Cross. Perhaps getting a broker to help would be the best idea.

  5. I chose NCL last year for my first cruise because of the Freestyle. I do not want to dress up or sit with the same people or be told when I have to eat. Did that once on a HAL cruise and never again. Prices seem fine and my parents like that they can get the Free at Sea options like the beverage package. Its also one of the few cruise websites where they show the price in Canadian dollars which makes budgeting easier.

The login.com and logout.com are simple, easy to add for anyone with basic tech knowledge, as it is just bookmark URL links or shortcuts on the desktop or mobile browser's interface - nothing complicated like "installing" more Apps, which sound challenging to a handful.

Agreed but more than a few people in that line were not sure how to do it or even what it meant. So we helped them out so they didn't have to wait in line.

$50 USD Per Port Shore Excursion Credit
$50 USD per port shore excursion credit is per stateroom.
Credit has no monetary value and is nonrefundable.
In the event a port of call or excursion is missed, for any reason, no refund or credit will be issued.
Shore excursion credit is applicable for each port, including debarkation port, and is not transferable to other ports. Use the credit or lose it.
Does not include embarkation ports. Overnight stays count as one port, except Bermuda sailings which can receive up to 3 individual days of shore excursion credit.
Shore excursion credit can be redeemed by calling 1-866-625-1167 or booking onboard.
For the guests that book their excursions online; they are charged full retail for the excursions and the discount will be applied onboard in the form of a credit to their onboard account.

  8. I can't remember what the cost was after they applied the $125 credit for the 250 minutes...but it was worth it as I was on a 10 day cruise. Internet service was fine the whole time. Never had an issue. I did note that there were some websites that appeared to be inaccessible so not sure if NCL was blocking them but I didn't really care too much.

My parents had the 250 promo and additional minutes due to their latitudes tier and the IT manager added it on for them. It did mean waiting in line though (maybe 30 minutes). In the meantime, we helped a few people add the login and logout buttons to their phones so they left the line making it slightly shorter! :-)

I was on the Crystal on the June 3-10 cruise.  The pre-cruise literature mentioned two "formal" nights. I packed accordingly.  There turned out to be one "dressy" night,  the night of the Captain's Gala Cocktail Party, which essentially means that the captain poses for photos with the cruise passengers.  The captain and his officers wore dress uniforms and the cruise director wore a tuxedo--the only one I saw that evening. The male friends I traveled with wore jackets but no ties--they would have been fine with just collared shirts, though they looked good.  The female friends I traveled with wore pants and nicer tops. I was happy with the latter (a nice photo was taken) but dressier than that would have been unnecessary.

Were there others places to eat if you didn't want to go to Captain's Party?

  10. If you go to MyNCL and look at your vacation summary, you should see Internet Packages to purchase. All the info should be there. Not sure how early this will appear prior to the cruise though. I always take the internet package as my Free at Sea. I do believe the 250gb is $125. Not sure about the other options.

now you know how i feel. the bank will figure it out.

Definitely they will. If possible, use a credit card for future cruises. It makes life simpler :-) Hope you enjoyed your cruise!

correct. so all of those holds should of dropped off and i should have like $2000. im still never confused but the bank will figure it out i guess.

You should be able to ask the bank if they see the "holds" NCL put on your account. And they should be able to tell you when they will fall off...

    Assuming I understand :-)

so that brings up the question what happened to the money? im still a bit confused i assumed i was being charged all along and had no balance.

I'm not sure I understand. So you thought your account was being debited as you cruised but in actual fact one large amount was removed from your account at the end...is that right? So, you were not being charged as you went along the cruise. Only at the end. So you should see 1 charge from your account for NCL. This would be all the casino, drinks, etc from on board.

also they were charging my card during the cruise because i had to call my bank a bunch of times because they refused the charges because i forgot to tell the bank i was going out of the country.

They were checking to make sure your card would work but they do not charge until the end of the cruise.
