  1. They wait until the end of the cruise. You should have received an invoice on the last day before debarkation which would show how much you would be charged in total. Then you will see it in your account (or on your credit card if you had used one).

Hi we are going on the Star on the 22 Sept out of Venice. Our itinery shows departure at 5pm. How do you find out when you check in etc? We are first time cruisers, with no idea, and ideally would like to get to the terminal and check in without a long line! So is there a process, or time to avoid as such?

Does check in open so many hours ahead of departure time, and i asuume like flying, they allow, first, then business then economy to board?

It makes sense to board as soon as you can, as we will have to check out of our hotel by 10 and if we can check in to the ship that would be awesome!

There is no set check in time. Some people like to arrive early like around 9am so they get on in one of the first groups. I normally only board around noon. The line is not too bad and doesn’t usually take long. It’s your preference really. Haven and Latitude members can board first and then everyone else gets assigned a boarding group number.

We will be on the STAR, departing from Venice in October. Can anyone advise what time the checkin/luggage drop starts?  I will need to book our water taxi from our hotel and I need to have a time.

    Thanks!

I was on the Star out of Venice last September and we had the taxi pick us up around 11 and we arrived by 11:30 and were on board around 12:15pm.

Personally we did like Aqua not only so I didn't have to wear shorts but also you could share without having to share!!

Haha! True! It was just a tad too close to the other diners for us. And my father refuses to go to dinner in shorts no matter what so Versailles worked for us. Either way, the food and service was great!

  4. @roger001 It depends on the type of device. On an iphone, you use safari to go to the website and then select the little box with an arrow pointing up on it to put a link on your home screen. Not sure how other types of phones work. Then you can rename the link. Mine are called ncl login and ncl logout and I just leave them between cruises :-)

  5. You can add links to your phone screen (or tablet) for login.com and logout.com and make sure to always select logout.com after finishing. But yes, the internet manager will help you do that if you are not sure how to add those links to your screen. I've done it for my parents and they just leave them there between cruises.

  6. Even if it rains a bit, you're still on vacation :-) It was pouring when we arrived in St. Lucia, sunny when we took the catamaran and then pouring during the drive to the waterfall. It got sunny again during our lunch and then poured the rest of the drive back to the ship. And they predicted sun that morning! So you really never know. Don't check the weather and hope for the best :-) Have fun!

  7. It normally doesn't appear on MyNCL. NCL will send confirmation of everything paid to your Travel Agent who should forward it to you. If you make additional payments, new confirmations are sent out and your TA should forward them to you again. The confirmations will also show when you need to make final payment.

I did this cruise as my first cruise two years ago (also solo). I recommend you do the maths to figure out which of the perks will benefit you most. Drinks are expensive on board so most people find that to be the best choice. Excursion credit can work out very well for us solos though. When I did this cruise I booked NCL excursions, but I explored both Cannes and Palma on my own. I missed out on Livorno... as mentioned above missing Livorno seems to happen from time to time, but I think it's rare. AK Dreaming were we on the same sailing? I also sailed in June of 2017.

I wrote a review of my sailing too if you're interested the link is in my signature.

Agreed. I don't drink and I like the free dining so I mostly choose Wifi. This upcoming cruise is 12 days with 8 ports so very much worth it (since the Wifi is $125).

Yeah, they still should have given you the $50 for Rome.  That's too bad.  Thank you for the information, though! I hope my August sailing goes as smooth as yours did.  I would hate to miss Florence above all other ports.

Florence was lovely. We did it on a bus tour years and years ago and I loved it. I hope you don't miss it either.

In addition to the Encore inaugural I have 4 more cruises booked....Gem, twice on Escape, and again on Epic. Love the big ships but really hope they don't make the Vibe changes like on Getaway. Funny that a Spice was actually added to Star during the refurb. Granted not a large but still a very nice adults only area.

I loved Spice on the Star. I had (wrongly) assumed it was on all ships until I got on the Jade. It was really nice on the Star to spend some time.

  11. I'd do Epic too. I'm booked for Feb 2021 on the Encore. First time on a big ship and in a studio cabin but the itinerary looks amazing and includes the ABC islands which I have always wanted to see. I don't care to go back to islands I've already done so itinerary is always more important than ship for me. Have fun choosing!

  12. I've done two 7 days and one 10 day and quite liked the 10 day one. The 7 day was in Europe and we were pretty much never on the ship. The 10 day I got to see and experience more of the ship itself which was nice although still glad there were only 2 days at sea at the end of the trip. The next NCL one is a 12 day on Encore in 2021 so I'll be curious to see if I think that is too long.

  13. I hope you've decided to go. My mom fell on ice before our cruise this past March and we all went anyway. Pain killers and the lack of cleaning, cooking or laundry was a great way to feel better (hot tubs helped too!). Took her mind off of it as well and she ended up being able to do much more than we anticipated so it worked out really well. I hope you go and then post back here when you return and let us know how it went.

  14. I saw others using it and it seemed alright. I considered getting it too since my parents were on a different deck but we usually either called each other or made a plan on where to meet the next day.

  15. As stated, the app is free. You can pay the fee to use the messaging onboard (this is not covered even if you have get an NCL Wifi plan). App works pretty well. Never tried using it for messaging.

  16. I bought packing cubes too and they are useful but I don't use them for everything. The hoodie generally goes on the plane with me as I get really cold and shoes are tucked into the corners of the suitcase. I also don't always take the cubes with me. They are useful for organization though.
