  1. My wife and I were on the verge of booking an Alaska cruise with Azamara for next July, and had contacted our TA to set it up.  After reading so many negative comments, we did not book it and went with Viking instead.  I am sure the ships are wonderful, but in our mind there is no reason we need to take the risk and put up with poor customer service.

  2. We just returned for the Viking sky, Amsterdam to Barcelona.  Use the app when you get on board to book additional dining requests.  No line, menus available to see and very quick.  We got all of the additional speciality dining we wanted.  "The Restaurant" was excellent also.  More variety then Manfredi's.

  3. We were in Rome for a couple of days post cruise last year. We booked a private tour early entry to the Vatican museum, (early bird Vatican &St Peters Basilica Tour) with hotel pick up, through viatour. It was awesome. Second group into the museum, no one there at all. As we got to the Sistine Chapel it was a little more busy, but not bad at all. In the afternoon we booked through the Vatican a tour of the Nectopolis. It was interesting also. I would suspect that the time of year determines how busy it will be also. We were there in October, 2018.

  4. Last year in Rome we had booked an afternoon tour of the coliseum underground. A few days before, I was talking to someone that said the Viking transfer does a drive around the city on the way to the hotel. I talked to someone from Viking ( I don’t remember their position) but they arranged a van to take six of us straight to the hotel. Our tour worked out great. I would not trust that it would always work that way. You might want to contact Viking and ask them ahead of your cruise.

  5. Yes we are on that cruise. We are in a DV cabin. I'm not sure why your excursions are not showing up. I'm sure they will soon. Because we are not sure of getting the excursions we want on Viking, we set up a private tour for Vigo going to Santiago de Compostela for 89eu eachand in Granada going to Alhambra for for 79eu each. My sister, (paraplugger) her husband, my wife and I already signed up but we need up to 10 people to book it, it is through Spain Day Tours.

  6. In October we will be taking a cruise on Viking that includes a stop in Portsmouth. We arrive at 7:00 and depart at !:00, according to the documentation. In the pre cruise Viking had listed an excursion to Stonehenge. The excursions just came up on My Viking and that is not an option any more. Does anyone know if it is possible with a private tour (name?) to see Stonehenge in the time we will be in port?

Thanks in advance, this is an amazing group of travelers willing to share there knowledge and experiences.

  7. We did this last October 2017. It was very nice. You walk through the park on a meandering path and end you at a large park with a view of the falls. The falls were not as big because of a dry summer/fall. Then from the lower park, you board a boat to skardin, a small village made famous by Bill Gates visits. We thought it was worthwhile.

  8. My sister, her husband, my wife and myself were on Viking Oct. 2017 for the Venice to Rome cruise, even though the reservations were linked, each couple had to log onto myviking and make our reservation separately. They came over to our house and we logged in at the same time. This could also be done separately on line and then use the phone to communicate. I did talk to a Viking agent prior to try to get it together, but they said each reservation has to be done separately. I suppose you could log onto each couples account and do it, but remember you do not have the excursion until you check out.

  9. We are going on a cruise that leaves from Amsterdam next October. I thought we had the arrival day and the next day in Amsterdam. It turns out the ship leaves port at 7:00 a.m. on the second day... So since we have transfers through the cruise line, and arrive in Amsterdam at 8:15 a.m. I was thinking of a couple of options. #1. Send the bags off to the cruise ship from the airport and make our way to the Rijksmuseum. (What is the best way to travel from the airport to the museum&from the museum to the cruise dock?)) or #2 take our bags to the ship and sign in, leave bags and go to the museum(what is the best way to travel there and back?). Any advice would be appreciated.

  10. We just got off of the Viking Sun yesterday, what we found was the ability to book Manfredi's on the television on the day we arrived was not available. It said to call a number, but no one answered the phone as the booking person was at the restaurant taking reservations for the cruise. We got in line at about 3:00 and the line moved slowly as he described to each person the difference in the menus at the Chef's Table and took bookings for both Chef's Table and Manfredi's. When we got to our turn ALL of the bookings for the entire cruise were taken for Manfredi's, but there were reservations were available for the Chef's Table. We had one reservation for each made prior so we weren't too disappointed. I checked a few days later and there still were none available for Manfredi's. My suggestion would be to book the reservation for restaurants prior to the cruise if possible. We enjoyed both and the others venues were good also. We especially enjoyed "The Restaurant" It was almost as good as Manfredi's.

  11. We just got home last night from our Venice to Rome cruise and an extension of two days in Rome on the Viking Sun. We booked an 11 day cruise for 2018 for a DV4 cabinwhile on board and got a $200 post guest discount, a $300 management adjustment and $100 shipboard credit that could be used for anything including gratuities. The amount of discount depends on the cabin level and length of cruise i.e. money spent on the cruise

  12. The optional tours range in price depending on the time and activity. For example, yesterday in Messina, one of the options was a helicopter tour, that was rather expensive if I remember correctly, but I think most of them range from $80 to $120. Of course, each day there is one that is included, I think they are mostly city tour types of excursions. The Viking Cruise also does a fantastic job in having a shuttle service to the city center. In Venice it was by boat. We also booked a couple of private tours. Today was spent driving and viewing the Amalfi Coast with Franco from Naples tour service, it was FANTASTIC! The day before was with Geo Franco from sicilywithsebastian from the Messina Terminal, again another great day.

  13. Just looked it up on the tv. The excursion Sorrento and Pompeii is $109 per person, at least for this trip. All of the excursions we have been have been excelllent. The guides have been local so they give bits of information that you would not get from a guide book.

  14. wow! I’m not trying to brag, but we are having a great time. Arrived on board today in Venice and the Viking staff had everything set up that it was seamless. Our DV4 cabin is great and has plenty of space for our things. We ate tonight at “the Restraunt” and it was wonderful. All of the reservations for The Italian speciality restraunt are gone, even before we sailed so make sure to make reservations ahead of time. All of the staff are great! You cruise critic members have helped us so much with your knowledge and advice THANK YOU. Viking has a free shuttle to near St Marks Square so an evening there is easy. So far, so great
