Every time security scan your card your photo shows on their screen so they know who you are.

Hope you have a fantastic cruise in May.

    Cruising is addictive.

I’ve had my retinas scanned at an airport before but Majesty was just a 3 night getaway. I really don’t remember them even taking a photo. I’m sure they do now, as it seems standard.

I’m doing the same cruise in May but on Mariner. My husband is an introvert and being stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean with a bunch of drunken extroverts is his idea of true hell. I doubt I’ll ever be able to go on anything more than a 5 night with my girl friends. But I’ll enjoy what I can get. 😁

They have your photo in their database already when your photo is taken at check in for your sea pass card.

We have numerous photos from our cruises and they are a reminder of that particular wonderful cruise.

I’ve only been on one previous cruise so far and that was Majesty in 2018. I honestly don’t remember them taking my photo then. Guess I should get over it now, as I’ll be cruising again in May. 😂

Again, how do you know this?   I don't have to do a google search, I know it happens, I just would not classify it as rampant.

Yes there are loads of threads on there about how people beat the system however do you have any idea of what percentage of RCCL cruisers are actually on cruise critic?  Probably no more than 5%.  So your measuring your response on a small fraction of the RCCL clientele.  Even there it's not half of those people who cheat the system.  I still very much doubt the change was made because people bragged about it.

I can just imagine the crazy eyes you wore while typing this rant. 😂 I have no proof, nor do I owe it to you because you feel my claim is silly. Believe it or not, just don’t expect me to conduct a professional survey of alcoholic beverage cheats onboard RCI. I’ve seen the product reviews on the rum runners and other products where people talk about how well it worked and all the different cruises and events they use them. I trust that if people feel a package is too expensive, they will find a way to cheat the system if they’re determined to drink. It will, of course, make a difference of what cruise line you’re on or the time of year. Spring breakers would be more likely to attempt it. I prefer to buy the package if it’s affordable because it’s far more convenient.

Been there done that.  How many times have you not seen your cabin attendant until at or after muster?  If my bags arrive before muster...I like to unpack right away.  Most of the time I am unpacked long before time for muster.

But I guess that's just me.  Simple for me to toss in extra plastic hangers.  To each their own.

I’m a relatively new cruiser so I haven’t had that experience yet. Although it would be inconvenient if I had to wait to complete my unpacking, I’d have no problem laying my clothes flat on the bed until hangers arrived. Not the end of the world for me. I like to pack as little as I can get away with.

Do you have any proof of this?  Its a big statement.  I doubt very much that RCCl made the switch because a few people, a very small demographic of their clientele, boasted about cheating the system.  It would be more probable that the head honchos sat around trying to figure out how to increase profit and decided this would fit the model.  It's easy dollars in their pockets.  It's also easy to blame the bragging for the change but maybe there is something printed somewhere that supports what your saying?

Sharing drinks packages was rampant, not a rare occasion. Cruisers are notorious for trying to get a deal or save money. Half the topics on this forum are dedicated to just that. Just do a google search for how to sneak booze onto a ship. There are literally companies who make fake shampoo and sunscreen bottles to accomplish it. And rum runner bags to help avoid detection on scanners. It’s an entire industry so people can cheat the system. Just because you wouldn’t think of doing it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

On a recent cruise on the Indy, with MTD, a gentleman came over very night mid-dinner and asked if we wanted the same time and place next time.  He then gave us a card to come in, no waiting in line.  It was very nice because the lines were crazy long.

*That’s* how they should be selling specialty dining. Offering a discount on it and making it seem more convenient than waiting for the MDR.

It’s like clock work.  The main meal comes out and boom, 30 seconds later they are at your table.

We have taken to declining. We have never bought a photo from dinner, so they are just wasting their time.

I don’t think of mealtime as a photo op. I don’t want pictures of myself during dinner, nor am I taking Instagram photos of my meal. I don’t really understand the photographers. Everyone has cameras and camera phones these days. I’d only understand it if you decided to go low tech on the trip and didn’t carry a camera.

Some ships had to skip Coco Cay a couple of weeks ago due to winds and high swells. One ship couldn't leave after it docked because the winds picked up. You'll find this will happen mainly during the winter months when strong cold fronts move through.

I’d be irked if I missed Cococay for both of my first 2 cruises. We’re going in May this time so maybe it won’t be too windy.

I'm super excited that the piano guy was great.  There are some of us who have cruised together before (different cruise line), and it is so much fun to join in and sing along.  In case you haven't tried it, ask any "piano guy" to sing Baby Got Back.  (Super hilarious!)

I suspect we have about a dozen who will have no problem getting on the karaoke stage, but I really love the idea of routines.   I know I could recruit some volunteers for that one.

I'm in the middle-generation, and several of us have already discussed having some pre-dinner family game time on board.  We plan on packing some easier-to-travel-with games, even if it is just UNO cards and a deck of regular cards.

Is there a sports bar onboard?  Or a place that shows sports games?  (I don't even know what sport is played in June.)  I know my nephews enjoy catching a game or two or three, if available.

I used to teach dance (ballroom, swing, Latin) so routines are my jam and I’m not shy. And who cares if you embarrass yourself? You’ll never see those sea strangers again afterward. 😂 You just need to check out the song list on night one and plan accordingly for the rest of the week.

I don’t remember a sports bar but I definitely wouldn’t pay attention to one. I can’t imagine they have a dedicated sports bar bc the ship is small but they probably have at least a couple of screens onboard.

Thanks for sharing your experience.  We have a family reunion cruise planned for June 2020 on Majesty, and I have to admit that I'm a little nervous that it won't have enough for everyone to do.  However, we needed the NOLA port, so folks could drive there, and the price was very reasonable as a group.  As long as the piano bar and karaoke are entertaining, I think most of the adults should be happy.

My immediate family doesn't spend enough time in the cabins to worry about the small accommodations, and we could not justify the added expense for a junior suite. So . . . no balcony for us.

The piano guy was really great. He’s in the Schooner bar. Karaoke is only ever as good as the people who choose to perform. My friend who was with me is a karaoke queen (despite not being a great singer). She knows how to put on a show so it made that weekend’s karaoke great. She actually got recognized all over the boat as “karaoke girl.” I would recommend you have your family turn karaoke into a reunion competition. Pick songs and make little routines out of them.

I just looked up your cruise from NOLA. 7 nights on Majesty seems like a lot for a smaller ship but only 2 1/2 of them are spent cruising. You’ll be ok. You might consider taking card games to play if anyone does happen to get bored, just as a backup.

Nope.  Shows haven't changed.  They don't change for years and years and years and years and years......................  😉

Not even after a port change? Ugh.

I have to say that I’m very excited about my upcoming trip on Mariner. It’s the same itinerary and port but Mariner looks like it has a lot more than Majesty. But, something I should also mention to the OP, my opinion of Majesty may also be affected by the fact that Cococay wasn’t redone at that point and the tender boats weren’t able to run due to high seas so we had a sea day that felt cramped. That should be alleviated now that the island has a port.

  12. I did Majesty in March 2018. I felt like there wasn’t a lot to do onboard during the day unless you were at sea, when the shops and casino were open. The pool deck was crammed to the gills and I thought it absurd to attempt getting into a pool due to crowding. I did enjoy karaoke but my traveling companion was a great entertainer in that arena. The piano guy at Schooners was very good, had a great crowd going. The ship was rocking due to high seas so dancing was...interesting. I would start on one side of Boleros and end up back and forth several times for each song.

Food in the Windjammer was always good and clean. Meals in the MDR were hit and miss but always edible. I feel like food reviews are so subjective. Service in all areas was great, except for bar service being slow because of the sheer number of orders. I found that I could more easily get drinks at the casino bar.

I had an interior cabin, as it was just 2 of us on a girls cruise and we only slept and groomed there. I never felt so cramped to the point of claustrophobia. There was enough space for my first-timer overpacking.

Getting an elevator going your direction was hard but getting on going the wrong way soon corrected itself.

I never watched the big show. Wasn’t interested in a 70s review. Hopefully they’ve changed that by now.

That would be great. Stop calling it 'gratuities'. They distribute how they want anyway.

I, too, would like to see the gratuities included in the prices. But I know that defeats their goal of making the cruise look more affordable before all the additional fees get tacked on.

I think it varies from ship to ship.  I did karaoke on Harmony and all of the videos were from youtube.  They were having internet problems, and so it would go out when people were singing.  I thought it was odd format to use.

    Not very Harmonious of them.

True. I can’t wait until we get some Millennial ghosts.  Looking at their phones the whole time while sitting on the edge of the bed, stomping around the room.

I’m waiting for the mumble rappers to be put in nursing homes. The staff will be so confused...”Is he rapping or having a stroke?!”

About 40 some years ago, my mom was in bed sleeping when she woke and seen my Dad's Uncle sitting at the foot of their bed. She said she even sat up and asked him why he was there but no answer. She was not fully awake of course and went back to sleep.

In the morning when she actually woke up, she told my Dad her story/dream. Later that morning, they get a call stating that my Dad's Uncle had passed away.

Same happened with my dad. His mom came to him in his dream and she told him goodbye, she was at peace. Then he woke up to a phone call from the nursing home.
