So here's a real life, real-time example of the real cost of the Free at Sea beverage package. Obviously one would need to calculate this on a particular sailing of interest but this is illustrative of a cruise I have coming up on the Escape on Dec 7, 7 nights out of Miami.

(NOTE: I'm in Canada so all prices in CAD)

The all-in Sail-Away Inside (IX) rate is CAD $1525 per couple and includes NO Free at Sea perq choices.

The all-in rate for the least expensive Inside cabin (IF) that does include one Free at Sea perq choice is CAD $2163 per couple (this price has the auto-grats for the beverage package included).

As such the true cost of the "free" beverage package is CAD $638 per couple on this sailing (~$485 USD at today's exchange). That's ~32 beverages at a cost of $15 USD each to break even over the course of the cruise or 2.3 drinks per person per day @ USD $15 / drink.

I love math. 🙂   Isn't there another cost to factor in?  The prepaid service charge on the drink package of hundreds of USD. Making the cost of drinks even higher.  Although if you normally tip that amount it would be a wash.

For those who have done a one way, was the price adjusted accordingly?

Especially for Paul Bogle since some in the group needed a return flight whereas others lived near the port.  Lots of cruises leaving out of NYC so this is of interest.  Thanks!

There is no reduction since the airfare was "free" to begin with.  However no need for airport transfer so that fee is eliminated.  I just booked a panama canal cruise from Miami to LA.  Will stay in LA after the cruise for a week so didn't need return flight.

I too got duped out of the double latitudes points and it is a 21 day cruise.  I got the 20% off but NCL said the double points were not offered.  I didn't think to take a screen shot.  But when I look at other insider offers on the website the 20% off always says double points too.  My TA called them 3 times and they will not budge.

I was looking to book in September too.  At that time the past guest offer did not include extra point per night for sailings starting Jan.1 2020,  only the 20% discount.  Now it includes both.  Last weekend the website was in error and all sailings said past guest offer so I booked.  Unfortunately NCL won't honor website "errors" so I didn't get the extra point either.

Is there a certain time of day these upgrades are awarded or is it totally random?

I can only comment on my recent experience for the 1/27 Breakaway.  Most of the Haven upgrades were done during all day Friday 1/18.  At the end of the day they left 3 cabins in those havens not already booked.  On Monday during the day 1 room remains in those rooms.  My upgrade to Haven happened Friday morning.

Our upgrade bid for the Breakaway on 1/27 was accepted yesterday. We went from family balcony to spa minisuite for $155 per person. Future hubby is pretty disappointed that one of our haven bids didn’t get accepted. We had bid well above the minimum for the aft penthouse and spa balcony rooms.  Can’t wait for our honeymoon cruise! 😁

Thanks for the info.  We're on the 1/27 sailing awaiting word on our haven upgrade bid.  Expect those to occur next week.  The aft haven's where sold out so no surprise there weren't upgrades awarded.

On 1/17 Breakaway 10 day sailing. (Leaving on a Thursday)

10 days early on 1/7 - many in our cruise group received lower category upgrades from inside/ocean-view to balcony rooms.

6 days early on 1/11 - All or most of the haven /suite/spa upgrades happened for our group, with soon to follower other lower category upgrades again.

Upgrades happened between 1pm-4pm in both cases. Bids going from pending to processing, with the rest expired.

In my case after seeing processing, soon after the bid page went away entirely saying "Not Authorized to bid" But an hour later both credit card were charged and email came through confirming the bid.

About 30 minutes later then my NCL Summary page showed my new room number and E-Docs and Luggage tags were also updated.

Had been watching the previous 2 sailings of this ship, and the upgrades in those case happened 3 and 4 days out, we got the 6 day out upgrade - may be that our sailing was on a thursday and the others were sat/sun sailings that allowed for a bit earlier announcement for us who knows.

Our upgrade was from BB Balcony -> H9 Haven Spa Balcony - bid in lower to mid poor range - very excited to experience first time in Haven 🙂

2nd time on norwegian, first time we had opportunity to bid. Ship is mostly full though not quite sold out.

Can you share your bid amount?  I'm on the 1/27 Breakaway sailing.

  7. Something strange happening on the upgrade site.  On one of my offers I logged in to check and it went from the low end of poor(my original bid) to strong.  I hit refresh on my browser and it went back to poor.  Hitting refresh it would sometime show poor, sometimes show strong.  However when it showed strong and I tried to modify the offer to below $600(the low end of poor originally) it would not save that value.  The bottom line, if you check and it seems the range of the offer has changed it may not be "real".

    Sailing on the Breakaway 1/27.

  8. Review of Norwegian Bliss based onits Maiden Voyage - April 21, 2018 12 Day Transatlantic (TA) Cruise

    - The cabin light scheme, requiring the insertion of our keycard before the room lights come on, is cumbersome and unsafe at night. Wefinally resorted to having one person hold open the cabin door to let inhallway light, while the other person went in to activate the room lights.

    .

Great review, thanks. FWIW you can usually override the lights by inserting a similar sized card in the slot. Doesn't have to be the room key.

  9. We ALWAYS stay at The Moore http://www.moorehotel.com/

In my opinion, it's Seattle's best kept secret if you want a budget hotel. It's not part of a chain and certainly isn't fancy but it is a couple of blocks from Pike Place, clean, great staff, and excellent value!

Thanks for the info. I may change and save a few hundred dollars. It appears parking is a great deal at this place. $15 for 24hours(no in/out but still a great deal).

  10. Any idea what terminal bliss will be in Seattle . We sail 6/30/19 on ninth deck . Any suggestions for hotel for Saturday nite

Bliss will be at Pier 66. Many hotels in downtown Seattle but expensive. I'm staying at the Edgewater which is on Pier 67. Cost is $400-$600(with taxes) a night. There are several downtown hotels in the $250 range. Many cheaper options available outside of downtown. We sail on June 9 2018.
  11. Thank you!! Hope to receive an email soon. Did you bid? Are the offers reasonable?

Bidding for my 6/9 sailing opened up exactly 80 days out on NCL. The email came a couple of days later. You won't know what other people have bid. You just need to decide what you are willing to pay. There is another thread with postings of what's been accepted as a bid. It can be used as a guideline.

  12. Hey I saw the disney cruises in your signature. We have only done disney and are booked on our first NCL (Bliss) next Jan wondered what you thought of the comparison between the two lines? THanks so much!

My first cruise was Disney, it was great. Second cruise was NCL. I prefer the "freestyle" dinning. Some like to dine with the same people every night per Disney. I like a different group or no group so prefer NCL. I didn't mind the kids on Disney, some do. Next cruise is Bliss on June 9.
