    wow, d

didn't realize this thread was old, started reading because that old dude with the dog in the canvas cart thing was on anthem during our cruise last month, over a year after your original post. seemed like I was reading real time as the description was spot on, there is now a sign on his cart saying not to ask any questions about the dog! the guy seems very unapproachable

obviously a fake.  according to HIPPA, you cannot ask what condition the person has BUT it's perfectly acceptable to ask what the dog is trained to do.  This really angers me as it makes more problems those that really do need a service dog.  I love my dogs but would never take them on a cruise.  If they are eating hotdogs from the buffet, they are in no way a service dog. They will be working, not taking a vacy with the owner.  I thought RCCL was going to put an end to this?  I've never sail RCCL and don't think I will until this issue is resolved.

Has anyone stayed in either of these rooms? The balcony looks to be much larger then a normal balcony.

Ah - so we figured out you are talking about Breakaway/Breakaway Plus class ships.  yes, they are large since that's where the waterfront is. we stayed in the mini-suites on Escape and Bliss with the extended balcony.  Mainly because it was so close to District Brew House. 😉

Well NCL did me a big favor😎😎😎.

The Joy will be doing Caribbean cruises out of Miami in the fall of 2020. So I booked my fav cabin overlooking the bow....on a Nov sailing.

So now I have. A Caribbean sailing on Encore in Nov 2019 and the Joy the following year. Only away class I have missed is the Breakaway. After sailing the Bliss...not sure the Breakaway would excite me.

    Leonardo class......late 2021?

    Happy New Year everyone!

The Bliss is a Breakaway class ship with some changes.  I was disappointed in the Bliss - I missed the outdoor space that was taken up by the Observation Lounge.  Probably will not do Joy, Bliss or Encore unless it's Alaska or cruising from cooler climates (New England/Canada, Northern Europe).  Escape is by far my favorite ship with Getaway and Breakaway close behind.  We're considering going back on one of those again next...

  4. Orly on NCL Escape!  Amazing guitarist, does a mean Carlos Santana.  We stalked him this summer during out cruise to Bermuda.  Also, Jim in District Brew House on the Bliss - he was hysterical!  I see Hrhbob posted info about Jim. I also have liked the Howl at the Moon crew but cannot remember any names.

Were you guys platinum rewards or suite members or just regular staterooms like us? I'm curious how many regular stateroom people get passes.   Also thank you, knowing that the Vibe is not as great on the Bliss will help me if we don't get a pass ha. Plus the extra $260 will be a nice bonus...still going to try get those passes though.

We were in regular rooms and Gold (we just made platinum).  We got there at 9am and were in the first group.  We had a blast in the Vibe on the Bliss but it seemed a bit more crowded since it was smaller.  No problem getting chairs but not enough space at the bar - LoL!!

    Round trip from Dallas for a Trans-Atlantic (FLL - Spain) = $99

Same cruise, round trip from San Antonio (250 miles south) = $100,000.

I'm hoping the website is broken:classic_wacko:

Anybody else looking into flight over the summer for European cruises? $99 to BCN is a steal, especially during high season!  Wonder what people are getting for flights to Copenhagen - not a cheap place to fly to anytime!!!

So on the Bliss It's deck 6 either the Social Club or Guest Services. I guess I'll have to split up (temporarily) with my wife to try both places.

That's what my hubby and I do.  It was at the Social club when we went in November.  We were numbers 20 and 21 out of about 40 as there were people that stayed in the Vibe from the repositioning cruise the prior week.   Also know that the VIbe is smaller on the Bliss.

  8. We had a mini-suite on deck 8 on the Escape this last time and it was great being so close to the action!    Our favorite place to be beside a large AFT Balcony!  We decided to keep our cabin on deck 8 for the Bliss, also!  Close to the waterfront, bars and restaurants!

  9. August 1992 on the Carnival Celebration from Miami.  We sailed to San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Martin.   Hurricane Andrew hit SoFL while we were out so Miami did not look the same when we got back.  We were able to avoid it for the most part but did have one rough evening at sea.  The Celebration is now part of the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line (Grand Celebration).

  10. Because of our large lunch late in the afternoon, we weren’t ready to commit to a full dinner. This led us to our favorite food onboard the Escape at Pinchos!

We sat outside, and, while it was warm out, it was still very nice. It was very quiet, and it was the perfect setting to enjoy some small plates and some excellent wine. Even though we didn’t think we’d need a full dinner, our first round of orders was so delicious we couldn’t help but go back for more. Hands-down, this was our favorite food on the ship and is well worth a visit (and we’d visit again in only a couple days).

Yay!! Glad Pinchos did well last week! Hardly anybody went there when we cruised in late July. When we sailed in Nov 2016, it was much busier. This is my favorite, too! We ate there many times (sometimes skipping apps some evenings).

Also good to hear Orly was still on board. We stalked him all over the ship - he's amazing!!

  11. My D+ daughter went on the NCL Bliss to Alaska early this summer. From her report, they've figured out how to do things right on their newest ship. She was quite impressed. I think she even bought a couple of future cruise certificates. I will tell her not to use one on the Sky.

My husband and I love NCL but would like to try RC. We went on the Sun (Sky's sister ship) many years ago but have been on the Breakaway/Breakaway Plus class ships over the past few years. We've decided we would have to go on something comparable on RC like Oasis class or newer to make a a fair comparison. Going from NCL Bliss to Grandeur of the Seas would be comparing apples to oranges...

  12. I agree with you regarding the aggressive confrontation. It can be a dangerous path.

However, a dogs butt in the grocery cart, lower level or upper, just seems all wrong to me. In my mind it is no different than a diapered baby or child sitting on the food service counter, at a place such as McDonalds. Worse yet, changing the diaper on an eating table. It just comes down to lack of consideration. Their house, go for it. Public place, no thanks.

Not to mentioned a trained dog has no business in a shopping cart. They should be on a leash by the owner when out in public. Never yipping or barking. If a service dog is out, it would be "working"...

  13. How are people getting on without straws in the frozen drinks??

we got paper straws as a door prize for a group gathering. great for frozen drinks! going to try to remember to pack the rest for the next one. we're considering investing in collapsible straws.

  14. I just saw this show last Saturday and it was fabulous! The food - not so much. It was traditional English Pub food three courses - a salmon cake appetizer, bangers and mash (sausage and mashed potatoes) and dessert of bread pudding with a jar of meringue and some type of cherry fruit sauce to eat with it. They also served lots of beer but you could get other drinks too.

We LOVED, LOVED, LOVED:hearteyes: the Choir of Man! We plan on seeing it when it comes to the US (Kennedy Center in DC, supposedly this fall). We liked the food - not fancy but decent for pub food.

  15. Great discussion here. We are going on the Bliss in November. My husband is very excited about the go-karts and grew up racing them. I've only been on them once as a teen and it was just me and the brother-in-law. Sounds perfect for hubby, but I'll stay away unless I can get some experience in. Honestly, I could care less - I'm going to be missing the ropes course...

  16. With all due respect, I believe you’re confused; NCL has the only go-karts at sea as they are aboard the Joy and Bliss. RCL may in fact have bumper cars, in which case yes; the object of bumper cars is to hit other cars.

Last I saw, the bumper cars were still on the Joy in the Galaxy Pavillion. I was checking it out yesterday since it's coming to the US...

  17. Wow! Sounds very menacing. 30 MPH is faster than I would have expected for a track on a cruise ship...of course I never expected a race track on a cruise ship...to much of a carnival atmosphere for me. Think I will steer clear...no pun intended.

    CM

Is it 30 MPH or 30 KPH? 30 kilometers is only 18.6 mph...

  18. I did search, however am seeing conflicting info about Margaritaville on the Breakaway. Can anyone please confirm for me if it is A la Carte or a set price?

Margaritaville is on the Breakaway and Getaway now? Ugh!!!! We loved the old (free!) Cuban themed restaurant that was on the Getaway in the past, never made it to the burger/salad joint on the Getaway. I'm not a big fan of chain restaurants.

When we cruised on the Escape in 2015 it was a la carte, now it's a flat $14.95. You can still go in for drinks at the bar (Margaritaville drinks that are only served there and 5 O'Clock Somewhere on the ship). We went there a few times mainly because of mid-day entertainment (Orly, the guitarist - he was amazing) but only had drinks...

  19. I am getting the impression that it's really difficult to obtain Vibe passes...thoughts?

Last week, we got there early and in the first wave. They were sold out when we got on the ship! I heard there were large groups buying all the spots. :-( Wish there was a limit to number of people in cabin or something. We picked the first boarding time just so we could get Vibe passes. We've done Vibe twice before and loved it. We really connected with the other people and bartenders. Shot O'Clock! We had Ruby and Renzy on the Escape. I think Rommel was on the Getaway? His name is familiar...
