  1. This was absolutely not my experience. We dined when and where we wished and were seated promptly every evening.

Portions were not small to my taste and no one ever accused me of being a tiny eater. :D

I understand we all have an experience unique to ourselves and same ship, same cruise, one can have a great cruise and someone else not.

This has been my experience as well.

  2. Thank you, we would want six of the seats so I think we would be really lucky if we managed to get it. I will try though. Do you remember what the menu was like?

One time when we booked it there were 7 of us. We booked as soon as we boarded. They bumped the table count up to 14 (from 12) to accommodate us.

  3. The Las Caletas excursion in PV sounds like something that my husband and I would be interested in. We are booked on a cruise next Feb that will stop in PV. I am sun sensitive and would like to know if umbrellas are provided on the beach or if there are shade trees to block or filter direct sun light? I sure hope so. Of course, I will take sun screen. Thanks for any information.....

I have been able to stay out of the sun there.

  4. I know that we can't post the name of TA's on this forum, but there should be a way to alert others of such problems. I once asked another poster to contact me on my e-mail and promptly got a warning that even that was forbidden. Where do we find such rules? I could not find it. And, more importantly, why is there such a rule? What business is it of CC to restrict our private e-mails.

this is where you find the rules, look at the section on advertising.

  5. Hey there - I am wanting to do a Bahamas Cruise but would like something longer than 3 - 4 days. Are there any cruiselines that do these longer cruises?? Thanks for your hep in advance.

Check cruises out of Baltimore, New Jersey, maybe New York. We have a 7 night Carnival cruise from Baltimore to the Bahamas.

  6. Will a US passport card be sufficient for a cruise or will it need to be a book?

Cards are only good for closed-loop cruises that don't go to a country that requires a passport.

We use full passports so that we can go anywhere we want.

  7. My husband and I both get 4 weeks vacation, and flex time because we are not allowed to work overtime... We also get many paid holidays.

You really have to check with the employer. I've had jobs where there was one week of vacation, and one week paid shutdown during Christmas. As others have noted, it really varies.

  8. Two us, relatively slender people. Our last cabin was an inside on the Sky, all 121 square feet of it. We managed. We've stayed in smaller hotel rooms in Paris and been comfortable. I'm just looking for the luxury of a balcony. I don't think the extra room is worth another $400 to us. And I think tubs are gross.

You'll be fine then. My DH and I found the balcony cabin to be good for us. But, we were very glad we did not bring a teenager with us this time!

  9. I'm in the process of booking a cruise for next summer. I have 2 daughters. DD1 is going, DD2 is not but that could change. I am booking a room for DD1 only but paying double occupancy. If by chance DD2is able to join us and I add her to their room, would I pay an additional person, or would it just be the double?

    Thanks!

    Tina

That may depend on the going rate at the time you book her. Also, if the lifeboat fills up for that section, you won't be able to add her.

  10. Hello, everyone!

    1) Getting the best rate - so far, I've simply called the cruise lines and gotten a straight quote and itinerary suggestions. I'm presuming that this may not be the best avenue to get extras/a good deal, and would love your suggestions on agency or websites to book through. We are not allowed to discuss travel agencies/agents, or websites on Cruise Critic

    2) Destinations - as I said, I'm *completely* open here, so as long as it's somewhere warm, and the departure port isn't too out of reach from Toronto.

    3) Cruise lines - I'm quite low key and do have "champagne taste" if you will, but at the same time would appreciate a vessel with other young(er) passengers; as such I'm a bit hesitant to explore options such as Cunard, Crystal, Holland America, etc. The idea of a single supplement also isn't particularly attractive to me, which most of these lines seem to charge. I likely wouldn't wish to have a roommate assigned to me.

    4) Embarkation - I'm looking through the site, but can anyone provide a brief idea or link where I can understand how the process of loading onto and getting checked into the ship works? I'm picturing an absolute GONGSHOW! Similar to an airplane loading

    5) Onboard billing/payment - Is cash typically accepted on board? I presume that I will have an account for the duration of my voyage which I settle either before disembarking or following the cruise? Are these typically paid via credit card or similar? Cash is not accepted, however you can set up your onboard account with cash.

    6) Connectivity - Given the nature of my business (branding, web design, and digital marketing), 24/7 connectivity is absolutely crucial. What experiences has everyone had with the on board WiFi packages? Are there other options to staying connected on board? Very expensive, and very slow

I'm looking forward to getting to know many of you here on the forums, and quickly advancing from "cruising newbie" to "cruising afficionado"!

  11. We are boarding the Epic May 22nd and it's our first trip on NCL. A few questions my wife and I have that fellow cruisers can help us out with. We have an aft facing balcony room... 11314 cabin number:

Is the electrical outlet in the cabin a standard plug in outlet as we have in the US?

I have a cpap breathing machine. Will I need a power extension cord based on where the outlet is?

Is there a hair dryer in the bathroom?

We have friends traveling with us in the cabin next to ours. With the partition between cabins, is there a door or part of the partition that can be opened or possibly removed?

    Thanks for the feedback!

In the cabinet across from the bed are standard US and European outlets.

You will need an extension cord for your CPAP.

The hair dryer is also across from the bed.
