Although they include a disclaimer on your confirmation saying that the Drinks On Us benefit is not available on embarkation day for sailings departing from Galveston, as mentioned in a couple of posts above, and from my own experience as well, DOU everywhere will be activated once the Casino opens.

Any idea if an RU4 Cheers to You will work similarly out of Galveston? Or would we need to wait for Day 2 at 6am for it to be activated?

We're on this cruise too 🙂  - it's been a while since we sailed with Royal, my brother and sister-in-law do it all the time (FL residents) and we're going with them - but they swear if we wait till the date is closer we'll get a better deal than this - have you seen that?

The best prices I have seen are during Black Friday sales. Since RC had a Black Friday month sale (or at least this is what they did in 2023), hoping the prices decrease right before our cruise on the 15th.

AFAIK, MTD is only deck 3 and begins as early traditional dining starts to clear out.  If your chosen time is too late, you can go to the MDR upon boarding & see if you can get an earlier time or just show up & be seated as tables open up.

Thank you, that was what I figured. Hopefully the wait isn't too long each night.

  5. This will be my first cruise on Royal Caribbean (I have done Carnival and Princess before), so I am trying to understand how the Main Dining Room operates. My family and I will be on Harmony of the Seas in April and we chose My Time Dining because 5pm for early seating is way too early and 8pm for late seating is way too late for us. Below are the listed times for dinner in the RC app:

    MDR Deck 3
    Dinner 6:30pm-9pm

    MDR Deck 4
    Early 5pm-5:15pm
    Late 7:45pm-8pm

    MDR Deck 5
    Dinner 8:30pm-9pm

When I try and make reservations for MTD, the earliest time available is 7:15pm everyday on MDR Deck 3. I ended up booking it everyday, as I did not want to not book it and end up with only later times as I wait to see if anything else pops up. However, is there a way to check if earlier times becomes available without cancelling your current reservation? I don't want to lose my current reservation if nothing earlier is available. In addition, is the MDR Deck 5 really only available from 8:30pm-9pm? Is that utilized for MTD also? It is spring break, so I am confused why all the dining rooms are not being utilized for the full dinner hours, or is it?  Lastly, if no earlier reservations pop-up, should I just go and wait at 6:15pm and hope to get seated at MDR Deck 3 when it opens up if I want an earlier time to eat? Not sure what is the best solution for my family when we tend to eat between 6pm/6:30pm.

When I go on the web or the app it is only showing 30% off for me. I have a 5 day cruise booked. I selected both cruisers and went to cart and checkout and it remained at 30%. What am I missing?

It is just how Royal Caribbean does their "dynamic pricing" strategy. Offers are different for each cruise ship and date. So someone on Allure of the Seas will pay $65.99 one week, and the person on the following week for the same ship might pay $75.99. Only keep track of the per person per day cost. Do not bother with their percent discount as its all marketing.

  7. Just got off the Panama Canal cruise on the Emerald Princess (12/18-1/2). It was lasagna on the menu every night and only saw fettuccine alfredo once on the 15 night cruise. The lasagna was not good.

Annoyance #362 about other cruisers is people who head down to disembark and line up contrary to the rules.  PLEASE DON'T DO THIS.  Every ship I've been on (Princess or not) has explicit instructions on where to go to wait to disembark.  It can vary based on status, plans to self-assist, whether you have an excursion, and some other things.  If the time of departure has to vary for whatever reason, they'll make announcements, and if it affects where and when the meeting locations are, they'll mention that too.

Never cruised on Princess before, so I have no idea what the protocols are. The only line I have been on is Carnival and they just call your deck number for self-assist debarkation and tell you to head straight to the gangway.

  9. I had a similar experience with the Mardi Gras at Port Canaveral last summer. There was 4 of us, with a total of 3 pieces of luggage. We went to our designated number area and could not find any of our luggage. It took us an hour going up and down every aisle before we eventually found them (which were all in different locations). Luckily we didn't have a flight until 7pm as we were planning on spending the day at the Kennedy Space Center, but still a frustrating experience. Honestly, I think the port workers were just lazy and did not want to sort and place the luggage in the correct area.

  10. Any issues bringing the smaller bottles? Out of Long Beach for Carnival, I have been able to bring 4 of the mini bottles (187ml), which equal to 1 regular size bottle (750 ml).

  11. "Additional wine or champagne bottles are welcome, but will incur a $15 corkage fee each, irrespective of where they are intended to be consumed."

Has anyone ever been charged for bringing additional bottles onboard during check-in? The security at the x-ray machines aren't Princess employees, so I am curious how they go about enforcing the $15 fee for each additional bottle?

We cruise on 5th November with Princess. If we buy now what are the chances of being able to claim obc for that cruise?

You just need to submit a statement showing that you own the stock. So if you buy today, and get the September statement with it listed you will be able to request for the OBC through princess via email. The last shareholder request I sent to Princess took 2 days to post.

  13. It is understandable that there is a lot of negatives lately as Carnival has had so many cut backs and it is interfering with guest experiences onboard. I know I was getting quite frustrated with several things when I was on board my Alaska cruise this past summer on the Carnival Spirit. However, here are a few positives.

Soul Play is great and I wish they would have it on more ships. Make sure you line up early, I got there 30 mins before sign-ups began and the line was quite long. I ended up not getting my preferred time/activity because it was already full. Note, you will not be able to sign up for everyone in your party as you can only sign up for an activity for yourself + 1 additional person. So if you are a party of 4, make sure 2 of you guys are there to be able to sign up for all of you.

There are 2 places to get specialty coffee (deck 2 and deck 9). Deck 2 tends to be busy, so I would go to deck 9 near the Serenity area and there is rarely a line there.

The retractable roof over the pool is a nice touch for those cold sea days.

Overall, I personally would not sail on her again unless it was the only ship with the itinerary that I wanted. There were just far more negatives that outweighed the positives on the Carnival Spirit for me.
