Viking's target market is dying every single day.

Trust me that changes are coming now that the company has shareholders.

Disagree. Viking’s age demographic is expanding. While the older folks stop cruising, younger folks become older and replace them. I don’t see the public part of their funding dictating any major changes in entertainment.

  2. We had a situation on our last cruise where we had booked an evening boat ride that was rated Easy. At the port talk the afternoon before, we found out that the pier was changed and it would be a 1.2 mile walk each way from our ship to the pier. We immediately went to guest services and requested a refund as the walking would be too much for us especially given the end of the day in the heat. The guest services agent needed approval, but he did get it in about 10 minutes.

Years of commuting on the Staten Island ferry gives me thousands of sailings.  Nowhere near a million though.  Great bargain.  30 minute trip used to be $.25 each way and now it's free.

I remember when it was a nickel.

    As to the question,

Will Viking give on board credit for Stock ownership?

I recognize that at least one of the big cruise lines does this, but as an owner, how would you benefit from providing something extra to another shareholder?  Isn't this an example of poor management?

Think about it, given the occupancy rates why do you need to entice shareholders to book cruises and give away part of the revenue/profit?  You don't need to!

$100pp OBC is minuscule. It would be a nice loyalty perk - really no measurable effect on profit.

DO NOT TELL THE FASHION POLICE BUT ONCE ON A TOUR THAT INCLUDED DINNER ON Mackinac Island in the Grand Hotel, I did not realize that we had 2 dinners, I wore the exact same outfit for the 2 dinners!! and I got compliments on it. As long as you are decent, and clean, it should not matter. On a different cruise, some teenagers were barred from the dining room, but a gentleman wearing a Hawaiian shirt was allowed to be seated. The girls were dressed nicely but I guess not up to the guards standard - yet Hawaiian shirts are considered dressy??

Related question as we will be staying at the Mackinac Grand Hotel soon: I’m okay with the jacket, but is a tie a must? TIA

The questions they answer every day, they know the answers to. The question they don't answer every day and that aren't in their database, they have no idea how to answer and don't have the time to research.

This is why I always use the same experienced Viking agent. If something comes up he hasn’t seen, I’m put on hold until he gets the answer.

I have sailed Viking Ocean using two promos in the past.  Just read the small print to find out if it's eligible.   The second promo was $500 OBC called WOV (world of viking).

    My second time writing this.

I guess OBC is a different animal as I have also combined OBC offers with promo codes. I didn’t realize they used designated promo codes. If you book on board or within 2 weeks of disembarkation you’ll get OBC on top of promo code perks.

In my experience, when getting info for a specific cruise --  from a V agent -- one must give promo code to agent.  They will not tell you if a promo exists on that cruise.

Additionally, V will not combine promos, as @Squawkman has stated above.

You are absolutely correct. I’ve been using the same Viking agent for several years and not only won’t they tell you the code - they often don’t know they exist until a customer tells them.

This message appeared in MVJ today. First time I ever saw this.

Promo FV424, usable on website if you already have a booking.

It’s my understanding that you can use only one promo code per booking. So - if the cruise you’re looking at has its own promo code, price both out.

We just completed our first Viking cruise (Ocean). We booked two cruises while onboard. Along with the past guest and onboard booking discount, we got $200.00 ship board credit for the current cruise for EACH booking. People in the know (we weren't two of them) did not pay their gratuities in advance and used the money to pay them.

Yup, that’s the best way to use that credit. You’ll know for next time 😊

We didn't buy any Viking trip insurance. We did transfer our booking to our TA, so I'll reach out to her on Monday and ask if final payment can be postponed. We're in the middle of a home remodel and it's just not a good time for us to pay for this cruise right now. But if we can postpone final payment we might reconsider keeping it.

Good luck with that - your best argument would be to hold the on board agent responsible as the terms posted on the ship indicate 6 months.

Do you lose any tripmate insurance you might have purchased? I thought I’ve read that is not transferable.

I wouldn’t know as I don’t use Tripmate - but that’s a great question to ask Viking before finalizing a transfer. One thing I can say (as I just did a transfer a few weeks ago) is your deposit is transferred.

We're new Viking cruisers. We went on our first Viking cruise last Fall.  While onboard, we booked an Into the Midnight Sun itinerary for June 2025. Final payment is due 5/31.

To begin, your final payment date should have been 12/24 - 6 months hs final payment is a perk of booking on board. Having said that, you should be able to transfer the booking to another date/itinerary, but you will lose any perks gained by booking on board. Don’t know how Viking will treat any OBC used on your Panama cruise. Worst case, you’ll lose your deposit which I assume was $50 for both of you - but you can take dvantage of any promos on the replacement cruise.

If VOC decides that a small casino, a few formal nights, kids, extra fee restaurants etc are in their future, I would say Viking is in my past...

Same here, but I doubt it would be that drastic as their TV ads emphasize no casinos and no kids. Print ads also emphasize “all inclusive”.

  15. There’s no agent on board river cruises. You can purchase $200 vouchers for $100 on river which can be used on ANY NEW booking (river, ocean and/or expedition), If you book directly with a Viking agent within 2 weeks after disembarking ANY cruise, you will get $200pp OBC for that cruise. I personally have done all of this (except I never booked an expedition).

I was wondering about that also.   We are in 7016 directly in front of deck 7 elevators on Venus doing the circumnavigation of Australia.  Wanted port side due to the land on the port side during the cruise.

Any noise or "elevator dinging" that could be heard inside the cabin at that location?   Thanks in advance.  🙂

We stayed in 8013 last Fall which is not unlike your location regarding the elevators and stairs. Absolutely no issues!

  17. FetaCheese - I’m sure @FlyerTalker could explain the air issues - I just want you to be aware of cost and traffic issues you may face Uber-ing to Manhattan. You may want to consider using Amtrak from Philly to NYC as the cruise piers are a short cab ride from Penn Station. In fact, you could walk to the piers - it’s about 1.5 miles. If you’re over 62 and want to save some $$$, you can switch trains to NJ Transit in Trenton (same platform) and pay a lot less as seniors get a 50+% discount - and NJ Transit is cheaper to begin with.

  18. Recently we decided to revise a booking we had to take advantage of a great promo. We planned to rebook the original itinerary for 1 year later as the cruise fare and air was the same. However, we had originally booked an extension for $599pp that would now be $1,099pp! Our Viking agent checked this out and said that was correct - we would need to pay the increased amount and even suggested we think about revising the flight and doing something on our own. It did make us think about this cruise, and we decided to hold off for now.
