Our mini suite only has one TV remote for the 2 TV so every time you turn on the one by the bed the other one turns on too and as you make selections on one, you can accidentally make selections in the other…  We didn’t have anything to block the sensor so DH got creative and hangs his tie over the TV sensor! Works like a charm  Hey whatever works!😂😂

Just curious, what do you use internet for on a cruise? I use it a lot at home but on a cruise, apart from occasional check of email. I see no purpose. I can always check email in port.

I personally use it for 2 things....1. to check my bank acct and 2. to watch Netflix (I cruise quite a bit and most of the movies I've seen that I care to watch).

our issue has been on cruises booked...casino comp with $600.00 each free play.....and then the notice if final payment is not made the cruise will be cancelled. My wife calls....on hold for over an hour and the casino not knowing how to fix the problem. But they all say....do no worry, we will take care of it.....Then the notice...cruise cancelled. More hours on hold and nobody knows anything.

When the casino gives you a free cruise and you set it up, you better hope they , in fact, pay for it or it goes away. We are now on notice that our next one will also be cancelled.....and not one soul at Princess can sort it out. 600 nights with Princess and we are just about done with them.

I get those cancellation notices all the time on my casino offer cruises.   I used to freak out and get on the phone, but now I just keep checking my upcoming cruises to make sure they are still showing, if they aren't there, then I panic.

The casino waits until the last minute to pay for the cruise.   Maybe they want to make sure people aren't cancelling and then they'd have to worry about getting refunded by PCL?   Dunno the answer, but I do know it happens all the time.

Darn and I love escargot.  I am afraid I will have to try it 😮

Let me know what you think......l like escargot too....just not theirs 🙂

I also agree, I didn't find the ambient noise to be an issue either.

  5. I enjoy it and always book there.   Just don't recommend the escargot, they are not the garlicy buttery bread dipping kind.   They are deep fried and nasty.....and I pretty much eat everything.   The waiter looked at me like "told ya so"......

  6. I was on the Discovery for 21 days this October sailing up the Coast of CA down to Mexican Riviera and back up the CA Coast.     Only 1 day out of 21 was I able to use the wi-fi.     I couldn't believe it, we were off the Coast of CA for crying out loud and on a New Ship!

Got on the Ruby Nov 7th for a 15 day Hawaii and back.......thought there was no way in H...L the wifi was going to work......I am here to gladly eat my words.   The wi-fi worked all the way to Hawaii and back without any problems.   I watched Netflix every day on my laptop without any buffering.

    What gives Discovery??

I was on the Discovery earlier this month. I was in a full suite. The concierge lounge was a lovely place that had complimentary soft drinks and some snack.

I cancelled my next cruise on the Discovery because I didn't care for the ship. It is way to large for my taste. Although it is pretty it is a hike from aft to forward. Because of the quantity of people there are lines and waits every where. Get to the early show a good half hour early if you want a seat, late show was easier to find seats. Forget the Vista lounge since the shows there were 15 minutes after the show in the main theatre and by the time you walked from bow to stern the lounge was over flowing. The grill on the pool deck was always 10 people deep and the service slow. I found the menu items to be cheap fish and meatloaf and turkey and hamburgers with a few exceptions. One of my favorite appetizers was the goat cheese suffle which they took out of an au gratin dish and diluted with something else on a flat plate. The flavor of the goat cheese was gone.

Obviously some people will like the size. It was not what I like for a stress free not to be rushed cruise experience.

You summed up my opinion as well, all the way to the goat cheese souffle

They also did away with the salads at the International Cafe, but the sandwiches (bread & variety) were much better.

  8. I also grew up watching the original Love Boat and for kicks, I'll watch the old series in my stateroom.... once in a while.

While I totally get goosebumps when I hear the Love Boat Theme while leaving port or going under the Golden Gate Bridge, that's as far as I want it pushed down my throat.

I was on the Discovery when they had a party for the new cast/crew and a few of the guests that were on the old show, none of the passengers were involved in the party.   It delayed our sailing from 4 pm to 10 pm and a large portion of the ship was blocked off to guests (deck 17 aft, Take-Five, some of the aft elevators, etc).   While this didn't ruin my cruise, I was getting tired of the new "Real Love Boat" theme being pushed down my throat everywhere I turned.   The parties, white & gold night, the gift shop, the banners, t-shirts, etc. were everywhere.    Never, ever, ever again will I go on a Love Boat themed cruise.     I just want to cruise without all the pomp and circumstance.....Call me old fashioned, I don't care 😁

Does this mean there is no smoking around the main pool (Sky Pool)?  Every other cruise I have been on has had smoking on one side of the main pool.  I really like the idea of having the smoking at the aft of the ship.

no, there is no smoking by the mid pool.   The only outdoor smoking areas are either aft of almost aft on deck 7.

  10. Using the casino offer, you can book separate rooms if you both have offers.   I suggest doing this, you will get double cruise credits for doing so and you won't pay the additional fee for cruising as a solo.   This much I know to be true.

As far as combining 2 cruises together to get a better cabin.....the answer is no (at least I've never experienced it).

If you want to room together, you should be able to add the free play of both guests to the booking.

  11. Traveling overseas vs traveling on Southwest are two totally different issues.

I no longer pack jeans, I pack black leggings (both capri and full length).   I wear these on formal nights as well as in port.   They take up way less space in my suitcase and they can be dressed up or down.   I can pack 4-6 of these compared to 1 set of jeans.   All my blouses are wrinkle free and I can cram them in anywhere.     I could easily fit everything into a carry on if I had to, I'd just have to give up my coat hangers and my hanging shoe rack.   I just choose not too.

I no longer pack a bunch of make up, blow dryer or curling iron (cut my hair short.....thanks covid).    I also don't pack a bunch of shoes that I never wear.

I'm not going to lie, becoming elite has made packing a bit easier because they do my laundry so I don't bring laundry soap or as many clothes.

We no longer dress to impress, we dress for comfort.  We don't look like slobs, but everything is comfortable.

Also, if I'm just going from the airport to the hotel/cruise I don't sweat packing a little extra because I'm not toting it around everywhere.   If I'm doing some land based stuff prior/after the cruise and I'm responsible for lugging around suitcases, I can easily not pack some items.

  12. I now only pack 2 pairs of shoes.....sandals and tennis shoes.  Less clothes are packed because we don't dress to the 9's anymore for formal nights.   Our medicine chest has increased out of worry in case of quarantine (and now we tote along covid tests).    I now store all the meds/toiletries in a shoe holder which never gets unpacked.    Lastly, I pack our dresses/blouses/shirts on hangers, it's easier than folding and rehanging.

I have to say that Cabo isn't high on my list of favorite cruise ports after this visit.  Way too many pushy people trying to sell you things or get you to take tours.  My wife and I did massages at the Sand Bar on Medano Beach (those were nice) but afterwards we tried to hang out on the beach for a bit and got mobbed by people trying to sell things, which completely ruined the experience.   The first time we went to Cabo we did a Princess tour that pretty much took up the entire time we were in port so we missed a lot of that, but this time we did it on our own and it was impossible to go anywhere without a dozen people trying to sell trinkets or tours.  Even while we were in a pedicab and actively moving people were still reaching in and trying to sell us stuff.

Looking forward to Loreto mostly because the chance of this nonsense seems much lower there.  That said, still enjoying the cruise and the ship, but we're thinking the ABC Islands might be a better fit for us next time around.

That's why I stay on the ship in Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Ensenada.     Loreto is the only place where you can get off and feel relaxed.   Now when I cruise the Mexican Riviera, it's for being on the ship not the ports.

@cruzin4us Thanks for the great report. My question is about the closet area in the cabin. We've only been on a couple of the older ships. Does the Discovery have the open area across from the bathroom like on the older ships? Love it so much better than the multiple closets on the Holland America ships. Thanks!

I guess that's the only picture of the room I didn't take 🙂.     The closet is right off the bathroom and it is one open closet (no doors).   It's about the size of a closet in a normal sized home such as the kids room.....not a walk in master closet.   I agree with you about the multiple closets on HAL.

  15. It's super easy to cancel on the app.    I think it's nice to cancel your reservation if they are holding a table for you.   There is usually a line of people waiting for a table, so it would just get people seated more quickly if they know you aren't coming.

Just go on the app to "dine my way" and click on the day you want to cancel.   Then hit the cancel button......easy peasy
