Good points, Pete. We’ve always been very picky about location, and wouldn’t chance the saver fare for that reason.

That extra space, inside and out, is the main advantage for us too, and we make a lot of use of the suite, as against public areas. Just such a nice place to relax in comfort, and makes a big difference to the overall enjoyment.

One additional benefit I’ve just thought of is that the room service menu is free, so if, for example, you return in the afternoon from a trip and haven’t lunched, you can have a pleasant lunch on the balcony.

Totally agree with you Harry. We usually go for a suite for the same reasons as you - we’ve had some lovely lunches on the balcony in the sun!
Additionally as we tend to go on cruises of 18 or 19 nights we’ve also sometimes taken advantage of being able to choose dinner from the MDR menu to be served in our suite for a change.

Here I am.. an attention seeker and a sympathy seeker  please....  I make no apologies!!!!😄

As you probably know I am already kind of disabled due to a severe accident.  One lower leg /ankle useless....

Well last night I caught my good foot, which drags slightly on the corner of a mat.  To stop myself falling I flung myself sideways and landed on OH very ungracefully in a heap.. I frightened him almost to death.

It was very sore this morning with a small bruise but because it was my only good foot I decided to pop into Minor Injuries just to make sure.  Ooooh *^*"!^***   it's fractured.  They decided not to plaster today due to my mobility but I now have a giant boot and must rest it for six weeks at least.

The hospital only had small crutches but they weren't much good so we went to a mobility shop and bought some.  I didn't know they are so scary to get used to.

    🤣

I will not moan,  I will not moan😱

Oh how horrible for you, you poor thing. So sorry to hear that. Take care and hope you are soon feeling better.

We have pre registered for that one too. Nice time of year to go to central med, plus we have not cruised on Aurora. No new ports but I am sure we will cope if we get on.

Until last year we’d cruised the Med in October every year since 2012. We’re looking forward to it as it will be our first cruise since Arcadia in October 2019 and nice to have 3 ports that we haven’t visited before.

  4. Website seems to be better now, but wouldn’t let us pre register. My husband has just spoken to a very nice lady at P&O (surprisingly it only took about 5 minutes to get through on the phone!) and pre registered for R319 Aurora 3rd October 23.

We have one large suitcase each and one suit carrier.

    Avril

I’m afraid we usually have 2 large and 1 medium case, 2 suit type hanging cases and a big bag for shoes 🤣🤣 My husband always says I take too much, but I like to be prepared for whatever the weather has in store and wear something different each evening. We usually cruise in the Med on Aurora or Arcadia often in October so weather not always guaranteed.

  6. So sorry to hear about the various health problems that some of you and your families are having. I hope everyone is soon on the road to recovery.
I’ve not been posting much on CC recently as have had a lot going on, but have been lurking and finally caught up with all the posts that I have missed.
I agree with everyone’s comments that we need to continue to be very careful as the virus is so active. Our neighbour (late 60s and fairly healthy) although double jabbed has just been hospitalised for 2 weeks with Covid. Thankfully he is home now, but still not back to normal.
So many people seem to think it’s time for life to go back to as it was, but we are in no hurry to resume some of the things we used to do!

I never do laundry when cruising and take enough clothes to cover the whole cruise. So unless another smaller vessel sails alongside to carry our clothes, it would have to be a no😉😁

One month is our maximum too Jean.

    Avril

Totally agree with you Avril. Our favourite cruise length is 18 or 19 nights and as we drive to Southampton we take a lot of suitcases!! 🤣🤣

  8. We always tip at the end, but only if we feel the butler has gone over and above etc. We’ve used him in the past for booking speciality dining and he’s always managed to get us what we have asked for.  I realise things might be slightly different at the moment, but I would certainly suggest you ask him if he can help with your bookings.

Just had email from P and O to say that October 9th 2021 on
    Arcadia is cancelled.

We were due to be on that cruise so have also had the email. We were expecting it so are relieved that the decision has been made in good time. We shall ask for a refund as anything suitable for next year is not available.

Interesting comment that a "tip box" is at the MDR entrance on the last night, I have never seen one including our last P&O cruise on Aurora in May 2019, but I agree it would be a good idea, especially in the freedom dining restaurants.

I’ve never seen this either. Our last cruise was Arcadia October 2019. We don’t do freedom dining though so maybe that is why I have never seen a “tip box” as of course with club dining you always have the same waiters throughout the cruise and would wish to personally give them any additional gratuity for exceptional service.

Sausages and mash is the first meal I  cook when we get home after any holiday .

I don't think I'd have them on a cruise , on a walking holiday used to be a good pub lunch after a full mornings walking.

We do too! I buy sausages from our local butcher and always keep some in the freezer. After a holiday of eating more elaborate and rich foods, especially when we’ve been on a cruise, we look forward to a simple meal such as sausages and mash often with frozen peas!

  12. I enjoy the opportunity to dress up and wear my long sparkly dresses on a cruise - it is virtually the only time I wear a dress as although we go out quite a lot I’m normally a trousers type of person. OH normally hates wearing formal clothes and his DJ is the only suit he owns. However on a cruise even he appreciates the formal nights although by the end of the cruise he’s usually glad he won’t have to do wear it again for a while 🤣🤣

  13. We are booked on Arcadia for the cruise before yours - 9th October to the Med. We booked onboard in October 2019 so only paid a deposit of £50 each. However we are also booked in a suite so the final payment due is about £10,000! We would obviously love to go, but do not feel we shall want to commit that amount of money in July, if that remains the final payment date, when it is most unlikely that we shall know at that point what the situation will be in the scheduled ports or if there will still be restrictions onboard.

Well, we have had an eventful morning..

Had to call an ambulance for Michelle as she was being sick, couldn't breathe and passed out...

Tried 111 for advice first but after ten minutes of Covid instructions and we are busy, call back later messages, gave up and called 999...

Paramedics arrived just as I finished the call, how is that for service...

She didn't want to go to hospital so the doctor reluctantly agreed she could stay home after prescribing different anti sickness medicine, as long as I stayed with her and monitored her breathing.

She is settled now, snoring loudly😴

Hats off to the ambulance service and doctors/pharmacy for acting so quickly, just a shame 111 is clogged up with what should be common sense messages..

    Andy

So sorry to hear the news Andy. Hope Michelle is soon feeling much better.

  15. A horrible day here today - heavy rain all afternoon and gloomy and feeling cold. Where has Spring gone?

Pleased to see you back Andy and to hear that you and Michelle are well.
So sorry to hear that Kalos and Mrs K have both been feeling unwell, but glad to see that Kalos is also back with us.

I don’t post that often, but read the threads every day so like others have missed your contributions.

Is it just me or is anyone else looking at cruise clothes especially the more formal wear and cocktail dresses etc ,and thinking will i ever wear them again. They are not suitable for most other holidays, we don't socialise much outside holidays.

I’m feeling exactly the same. Although we do socialise at home quite a lot in normal times I almost always wear trousers and smart tops. Cruises are the only times I wear dresses these days so I have lots of those and especially the long glittery ones that are gathering dust in the wardrobe. I’m reluctant to have a clear out at the moment as I’m still hopeful of a return to normality sometime.

  17. Thank you to Gettingwarmer and Izzywiz for organising this thread and to all of you who have posted your wonderful photos. It’s brought back many happy memories of the places we have visited and given inspiration for more places to hopefully visit in the future.

  18. I played golf this morning - first time for months that we have been able to have competitions. We had a lighthearted one playing in 3s. Weather was dry, but with a cold wind so afterwards we all had a quick cup of coffee outdoors in groups of 6. It was lovely to see everyone again and even better our team was 2nd and we won a bottle of wine each!

I’m afraid I’m also a member of the fallers club. A few weeks ago everywhere around here was very muddy and twice on our daily walks I slipped over! Very embarrassed and wounded pride definitely, but thankfully apart from some bruises and coming home covered in mud I didn’t suffer any after effects. OH now keeps telling me to be careful and watch where I’m walking which can be quite irritating 🤣🤣

  19. Went for our usual walk this morning and it was already quite windy. It’s strengthened significantly since then, but still no sign of any rain yet.

We’ve just been to the vaccination centre. OH had an appointment at 4pm and although mine was booked for next Friday they were happy to vaccinate me as well today. We’re both really pleased to have now had our second jabs.
