Lately..that's all we hear..  How many bars,  where are the bars, what drinks are included in Happy Hour, or in the packages,  etc.  Sometimes I think it must be Carnival!

When drink packages were first offered by X, we saw a big change in the X demographic. Many drinkers  came onboard from other lines and then  wanted X to become more like the cruise lines they came from. Less upscale....

Now with expanding perks for crossovers, there will be another influx.

Used to be more about fine dining, wine tastings and  wine pairings..We enjoy our drinks,  but we do not cruise to drink!

I think some of it has to do with the younger demographic X is after.  More loud and shouty and more party party party.

I did look at that Princess sailing when it was released last month for sale and the pricing was already high. Unfortunately the position of Sky Princess for the eclipse is not to my liking in terms of clear skies probability but it’s possible that they will change the route to a better spot like the southern Spanish coast.  Then again two of Cunard’s ships are going to view the eclipse from Iceland which has even worse weather prospects for clear skies.

The Princess itineraries come out in June and the Celebrity itineraries in December.  It would help Celebrity out if they listed theirs in June as well.

I was joking about not wanting to cruise to an Eclipse, but I might have a bit of a dark cloud over me for events 🤔🤣
For the May Aurora Borealis event , I was in Ottawa, ( 3 hour drive from home) looking after our 2-1/2 year old grandson , by myself , as my son and his wife were at a military conference in Tampa

there where too many city lights to see anything and the little guy was fast asleep 😴 so couldn’t drive out to the country where it was darker

    just my luck 🤣

You should be able to cruise to an Eclipse on the Celebrity Eclipse 🤣

  3. Well I sailed on the Millenium which is my favorite ship and in the same class.  I liked the size of the ship (fewer cruisers) and it was more laid back and more relaxing IMHO.

This will be my review of my experience on the Celebrity Silhouette May 24-June 6 Best of Scandinavia

With all the recent reviews, concerns and talk of a decrease in quality on Celebrity ships, I can honestly say we did not experience any of that quite the contrary.

    About Us

We cruised as a family of 9 ages 2-66, other than the 2 year old all have been on cruises in the past and all have been on other lines.

This is what we called the “recovery cruise”, as 3 members of our group had recently had major surgery.

My daughter,Emily 33 had her 2nd kidney transplant in August, she and her husband Conor ,were married while she was on dialysis and never had a honeymoon.
First photo myself, Emily and Conor during our layover at JFK

My daughter Becky, 39 had cervical disc replacement in January, my brother in law Steve 66 had quadruple by pass surgery in September, my sister Eileen his wife was with us

And lastly, my daughter Kristin 35 her husband Mike 39 and their son, my grandson Rollins age 2..and Kristin gave Emily her first kidney 6 years ago.

    Travel to Amsterdam

We all flew into,Amsterdam from various parts of the country, Florida, Washington DC , Virginia and Ct.starring on Monday May 20 until May 22.

We had booked our tickets independently, and did not use flights by Celebrity, which I have used in the past with no real issues.

Everyone arrived into Amsterdam, which is one of the biggest most confusing airports I have been to.

I had booked transportation from the airport to our hotel via Welcome Pickups, they were efficient and I thought reasonable.

    next up hotel and Amsterdam..

The air turbulence caused by a standard balcony configuration does increase fuel usage, but the aerodynamics of the overall superstructure in the face of wind loads is a much greater factor, and the hydrodynamic losses are larger yet.  I don't think they're buying all that much in fuel savings.

There has been some interesting study done on this (see https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0029801820307666 as an example, but requires an account to get to the fine detail) with regard to cruise ships in particular.  The above study was performed for a big CCL Vista class ship.

I did not get an exact number from the document.

My recollection during an Edge Bridge tour was that there was a 15% savings in fuel due to the IVs (this is what they claimed).  Not sure from what simulated model this was from...  Perhaps the true number is less than 5%?

It seems like someone should be able to compare an E class ship to a newer Princess ship with balconies and see what the fuel consumption is?  There would probably be different factors in play,  but are not those variables known.

It does seem reasonable that Royal chose a different path in supplying the IVs according to popularity and demand.  If the fuel savings really were 15% why did Royal not do the same and do all IVs?

I used to cruise Princess quite often, but that was before the medallion. In fact, I’m one of my last cruises the medallion was supposed to be introduced, but it wasn’t ready yet and we got some onward credit as an apology. Anyway, I am now looking at some interesting Princess itineraries that Celebrity isn’t offering.

Celebrity on their E class ships had facial recognition and cameras.  Not sure if they used it this way but that can be used as a tracking system.

We can agree to disagree.  I definitely think they are trying to overcome their accusations of pushing out all of us very loyal (and mostly older) customers.  They have had a lot of complaining, not just on these boards, but on other sites like Facebook, in onboard conversations with management, with letters and emails to the CEO from people (particularly but not exclusively Zeniths and Elite Plus cruisers).  As a Zenith (and I only note this as it is pertinent to my point) I have seen, heard, and heard of many conversations going on of that type with ship's senior officers.  They are trying to throw us a bone so to speak with this and a few other minor changes meant to pacify our frustration.

If they want to change that perception,  then they will offer more exciting and longer itineraries ...

The short trips to Perfect Day convinced me otherwise.
