  1. I always take my hair dryer as it is a styler dryer with the comb attached. I have had shoulder surgery and don't have full range of motion in one arm. I cannot use the blow dryer they provide in one hand and a comb in the other. If I could not take my dryer, that would be the end of my cruising days as I have short naturally curly hair and need to use my dryer to get it to look decent.

  2. We purchase travel insurance for every cruise. We have used it once on a B2B southern CAribbean cruise where we both got sinus infections half way through the 2 cruises. It paid what our Blue Cross/Blue Shield did not pay - deductibles, co-pays, prescriptions from the ship, etc. It was through CSA travel protection which is secondary to our primary helath insurance. We almost had to use the travel insurance for our first cruise as our son was diagnosed with a very low platelet count 3 days before the cruise. Luckily, the numbers came up and the pediatrician let him cruise with specific instructions for us to watch out for.

Travel insurance covers you if you have elderly parents and they get sick and you need to cancel the cruise as well.

If you take any prescription medicine for any kind of health condition, including high blood pressure, you are considered to have a pre-existing medical condition. If you do not purchase travel insurance that covers pre-existing conditions, they may not be covered. That would include anything related to high blood pressure such as suffering a heart attack or stroke. Pay close attention to what is and is not covered before buying a policy.

  3. It changed effective April of this year and was first rolled out on Quantum, Oasis and Allure. It was then slowly rolled out to all the other ships in the fleet.

Diamond Members get 24 consecutive hours, Diamond Plus get 48 consecutive hours and Pinnacle Club get unlimited internet for the duration of the cruise.

When establishing an account Diamond and Diamond Plus Members are given the option to apply their times towards a package.

Do you know if Diamond members can have both of their coupons applied to one internet package to use on one device? We really don't want to buy 2 packages when all we do is check e-mail. Our phones would cost a lot to check e-mails unless we are in the US or a US territory. Thanks!

  4. There was a similar discussion on a facebook site about the smaller ships. someone posted that on one of their recent cruises, they were told that Royal would be coming out with a new smaller class of ships called the Odyssey class. They would be in between the size of the Vision class and the Radiance class. Not sure whether this will really happen or not, but it was interesting.

The Edge class of ships for Celebrity will actually be smaller than their Solstice class and definately smaller than the Voyager class.

  5. I am not sure. Most say they cannot. Personally, I would love to see a Radiance class ship in Baltimore if they fit under the bridge! Love the ships and much closer to home. It would allow us to cruise more often which is always a good thing!! :D

I was under the impression that a Radiance class ship can fit under the bridges. Some captains have said so during their "Captain's Corner" talk. I also had heard that a Millenium class ship from Celebrity could fit under the bridges as well.

  6. For whatever reason, the parents did not want the girls in their cabin. If they want to go to bed early or have adult time, they should have gotten 2 cabins and insisted the girls were in their cabin before the parents went to bed. If they cannot afford 2 cabins, then they ought to rethink letting teen girls roam the ship after curfew.

  7. We have sailed on Radiance twice. The first was an Ultimate Alaska cruise in September of 2010 for 14 nights. The second was in June of 2014 for a Southern Alaska route out of Seward. We had cabins on Deck 7 both times, (one forward port side and one aft starboard side) and never experienced any plumbing issues. Both cruises were wonderful! Yes, there is some rust, but that has been on all ships we have sailed on. They are exposed to salty sea air 24/7. It's inevitable for rust to occur. On all Royal ships we have observed routine maintenance/painting being done regularly. The September 2010 cruise on Radiance was our first Radiance class ship and they are our favorite class of Royal ships!

  8. I love the idea of reasonably priced bottled water for sale either pre-cruise or on the ship. I have tried to avoid drinking too much of the ship's water lately as it causes swelling in my feet and ankles late each evening. I would love to be able to buy bottled spring water at those prices! Royal, please take note and offer this to your customers!

  9. I have never taken extra things for cabin storage or hampers for dirty clothes. All our toiletries have fit into the bathroom cabinets and/or desk mirror cabinets. We just put one suitcase into the closet standing up on it's end with the zipper top opened and use that for dirty clothes. I have brought extra hangers, especially pants hangers as there never seem to be enough.

  10. Very upset to see the Diamond and Diamond Plus internet being for a 24 hour period instead of a certain number of minutes. We only get on the internet for maybe 15 minutes a day to check e-mail and make sure family is fine. I don't want to buy a package for a cruise when we don't need those minutes. We don't stay connected 24-7, even on land. Celebrity offers 90 minutes to use as you need to check your e-mail. I understand that there are some people who need to stay connected due to work obligations, but for the rest of us, offer the certain number of minute plans so we don't have to spend a boatload of money for something we don't want or need.

  11. We have been cruising since 2003, sometimes with our sons and now daughter in law and sometimes alone. We have always followed the recommended dress code and have seen some turned away from wearing shorts for dinner.

My husband and sons wear khaki type pants and polos or buttoned collared shirts to casual nights in the MDR. My daughter in law and I wear either dresses or nice pants with a cute top. Jeans are too hot for the Caribbean as well as they weight more in the suitcases. For formal nights, the guys wear suits with ties and dress shirts and the girls wear nice cocktail type dresses, not gowns. Our sons have always worn these clothes since we started cruising when the youngest was 12. They wouldn't think of wearing shorts in the MDR for dinner. If we don't feel like dressing according to the guidelines, we go the Windjammer.

  12. I highly recommend hotel Fontana (3 min walk to P. San Marco). We took the Alilaguna Blue from the airport to the S. Zaccharia stop, didn't have any bridge/steps to cross, 3 min walk to the hotel. For the cruise terminal, we took the same Alilaguna Blue to Maritima, and then 5 min walk to the ship. We also got a 10% discount for paying cash.

On previous visits we saved money by staying in Mestre. First time that we splurged to stay in the city, and it was a wonderful experience.

For the Alilaguna Blue, is there a limit on luggage you can take? We are going to Venice in June 2016 before a cruise and would like to stay at the Hilton Molino Stucky Hotel. The Alilaguna Blue stops there. We will probably have 2 large suitcases, 2 carryons, a tote bag and a suit bag.

    Thanks!

  13. Has anyone actually been able to order luggage tags since 2010 for $5.00? I know that some still get them for free - pinnacles and gold card holders. I am asking if anyone who has sailed in a Non Gold card cabin has been able to get them for $5.00. I have been using the luggage tag holders I bought on Amazon and they work fine. It just would be nice to pay $5.00 for the printing and postage and get them as it is nice to have the luggage tags. It's not a big deal to me either way, but Celebrity still mails luggage tags free of charge to any passenger requesting them. Same parent company.

  14. WE are Diamond with Royal and giving Celebrity a few cruises in the near future. I wish the pre-loaded drinks or Elite Happy hour had the same hours as Royal. We are late seating diners and like to have a few glasses of wine prior to dinner, not hours before. We don't get the drink packages as we only have the 3 glasses of wine per evening, don't drink coffee, don't drink fruit juices, and have 2 diet Cokes during the day on top of the free iced tea at meals.

  15. My husband and I love the Vision and Radiance classes of ships. Smaller, more intimate with better service than the larger ships. We are late 50's to early 60's and don't use a flowrider, an ice or roller skating rink, a rock wall, etc. We enjoy being able to see smaller ports of call that the behemouth ships cannot get into. I would love for Royal to build some more Radiance class ships. They have lots of glass to view the ocean while sailing. Freedom felt too crowded when we sailed on her in 2009. If Royal gets rid of all the smaller ships, ports like Baltimore won't be able to have cruise ships. Royal will lose us if they get rid of the smaller ships. The largest we enjoy sailing is Voyager class, but they are 3rd on the list behind the Radiance and Vision classes.

  16. When many are mentioning the service going downhill in the MDR, how much of that is due to the automatic gratuities that are added to your seapass daily? So far, we have not noticed a decline in service. We don not adjust our gatuities and always tip more at the end proveded we have had good service.
