  1. Polls like these are interesting, entertaining at best, and very inaccurate....you're preaching to the choir. And as I have noticed, the size of the choir itself has diminished...these boards are a shadow of what they were in the past.
I come here only because I have a cruise coming up in August and coming here is a way to monitor what is happening. I fully expect the cruise to be cancelled, then I will cancel for a. full refund, then have no need to log in here anymore till I book our next cruise....which won't be for at least year.

If this poll was put to the general public, the result would be much, much different.

I am the OP & was just wondering if they are even going to bother bringing the Oasis  to Bayonne if the summer cruises are all cancelled? We have a booking for October 18th, and I hope they are back in full swing by then, but to bring a ship here for just 2 months, not sure that is going to happen, who knows!

Looking at the 2021 schedule for the summer, it was only scheduled for 2 months originally.

If it sails 1/2 capacity, is that such a bad thing?  Revenue is revenue.
Can't see how we can predict all summer cruises be cancelled over a year from now....this summer, maybe.

Also, doing a dummy booking to check availability for the category staterooms we want, many are taken.

  3. Why do people think Oasis will not come to Bayonne?

Are we talking 2020, next year, 2021.

WE have a GS for a 9 night carib. booked on Adventure this coming August...going to cancel.

Looking to re-schedule for next summer. Oasis is showing in Bayonne, a 9 night carib for end of July. That's 16 months from now.

People here think it will not happen?

We are both in our 70's.  Our May cruise on Oasis was cancelled.  Requested our refund on March 27 (still not received~~ they said 30-days, so they still have time).  Would have done the FCC if it were not for the medical letter.  Our doctor said no way for signing that.  Before this we travelled all the time.  We think we are healthy enough.  When could you ever use the FCC?

Sadly, just cancelled our September cruise out of NYC since final payment is almost due.  The NY/NJ area is just too risky.  They said 90-days for refund.  Sure hope the cruise industry survives this.  There are so many new ships on the books. 🤞

We love cruising and hopefully will be able to cruise again.

    Stay Healthy!

Same here...we have a August cruise booked out of Bayonne.   Going to cancel.

Thought about taking FRCC and book in 2021, but we will be 70 then.

So cruising is over for us....we are Diamond +, and now that we have more leisure time we were looking at taking more cruises per year.

    Yeah as in bankrupt

so say a line goes bankrupt. What would happen to all these cruise ships then

They'll keep right on cruising...fresh start with restructured management, possible new owners and/or investors, new schedules, new reservations etc.

    Possibly even a new name

Think of it as a reset.

Surly If there are no cruises this year, cruise lines will go bust

Yep!  Busted as in Bankruptcy? Then what happens to all that FCC?
Incidentally, bankruptcy is not the end of the world in the big corporate world.

It protects them from bad debts...like you and me, and gives them time to re-organize for the future.

We just cancelled our 8/15 cruise, too much uncertainty. We are both over 70 and may never cruise again after 35 cruises.

We are 69....Diamond +....have a cruise planned for August. Will cancel. If we re-book for 2021 using FCC, we will be 70...so I guess our cruising days are over.
Do we have underlying medical conditions?  OF COURSE!  Who at 70 and above do not have a medical history of some kind.

People are pretty gullible they will continue to book cruises for 2020 when reallistically there are way to many guidelines for the cruiselines to achieve for that to ever happen this current year.

It's one thing to board the ship virus free but another thing when you go onto one of the foreign ports not to bring the virus back onto the ship and infect everyone and have a ship full of sick passengers.

It's a vicious cycle that won't be able to be handled without a vaccine that will help all ages, until then going to be really hard to control by cruiselines or any other entity,

It's  a really sad situation that we all have to understand and handle. Until that happen's going to be alot of unhappy people here on CC.

I have 2 cruises booked right now...September 2020 and September 2021..............when the time comes the September 2020 cruise will be moved to April 2022...........so that would mean 17 months and  24 months from now when there is a vacine available. I'm good with that.

Agreed....scanning all the latest posts, I also can't believe how gullible people are. More wishful and hopeful  than reality.  RCI is leading people on one month at a time to hold onto revenues, at the same time taking additional bookings, or offering FCC. Anything than give refunds for cancellations.    What else would you expect a large Corporation to do?
Come Jan-Feb it will be another month gone by, with another month canceled, RCI following the same playbook.

A little confused.  If you have a cruise booked for this August, you have not made final payment yet, so whatever refund you get will be the only monies available to flip for your replacement  cruise next summer.  So how can you possibly  have money left over to plan a land based getaway.  Unless of course you decided to pay off your cruise early and that makes zero sense.

We have a GS booked...made a $500 dollar deposit. We are weeks away from final remaining payment of $500.

They currently have about $5,300 of my money.

If I cancel today, from my deposit, I loose $100 per person, remaining $300 goes towards FCC....I still Get a refund of $4,800 dollars give or take, to put back into MY bank account and use how how I wish.

I've already went online and canceled what shore excursions we had, and 3 reservations for 2 at specialty restaurants

  10. When they resume cruises, and assuming they are going to put in place the new safety measures...what will they do to the cruises that are already booked in the future?
Tell 1/3 of the people they cannot cruise due to the limited amount of passengers, possibly the type of staterooms being restricted......?
Possibly, they can weed this down by shutting out the 70+ crowd.

Honestly, how Many  people are there 70+ that do not,  or have not a history of certain medical conditions.

Diabetes? Any type of heart conditions? High Blood pressure?

They can get around this by obtaining a written permission from their Doctors.
I'm a healthcare professional, and I don't think I know a Doctor that think being on a cruise ship is a good idea.

Not all I suppose, but still.

I think certain ships will resume (fall at the earliest), but many will just be waiting for demand to return.  Sure, cruise dorks or enthusiasts will definitely want to hop on board, but the general public will not.  But who knows?  Is it cheaper for Royal to have a ship sitting around in the ocean with a skeleton crew or a ship that is 1/4 full?

We love cruising (D+) but there is no way we are getting on a ship until this thing has fizzled out completely or there is a vaccine.  Furthermore, there shouldn't be cruises again until there is a vaccine.   Someone gets on a ship perfectly healthy and 4 days into the trip they get sick and test positive - they have already exposed who knows how many people - and then they all spread it and here we go again.  You can't throw enough soap/hand sanitizer to try to band aide something like this.   I've said it once and i'll say it again - I cannot believe people were getting on ships in Feb/March.

Please check this website. Its bad now, we dam well could have done much better in a variety of ways. I know who I blame but will not go into that because its not productive in a forum like this. It is bad now, it will get better. Here in NJ by May 4 we are down to 0 deaths per day. You can check the country as a whole, each state individually and other other countries as well.

    https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america

I am a "Essential" worker in NJ....the death rate will never get to Zero anytime soon....at least not here in the NJ/NY area.

They will ease the quarantine up, and when people will begin to commute again, there will be another surge. We're planning on it with supplies, etc. The population density is the cause of being a hotspot, and will continue to be so.
The rest of the country may see drastic improvements, but not here. Predicting this will go on in waves until next spring, at least.

We are D+ also....not having any panic attacks concerning when we will cruise next.

My opinion....frequent cruisers seem to be the ones who are willing to wait...been there, done that many times.

On our group for our upcoming cruise, it would seem it is the first time cruisers, those who have booked their "Dream" vacation, etc, etc, that are the most anxious and will get onboard no matter what the risks....the veterans are being sound minded (IMO), taking FCC, refunds, talking about waiting it out till next year if need be.
We have a cruise booked for this August....I will take the refund, turn around and make a deposit ion a cruise next summer, and use the remaining money to plan a land based get away.
If airlines are still risky, then we can plan a road trip this summer.

    This is all my opinion.

  13. Depends upon the time period.

Right now, aside from treatment and a vaccine which can take months, they are working towards a "Instant" test to see if you are a carrier.

They are putting one out now that can test you in 5-15 minutes. They just demonstrated it on Fox News.

They want to develop one that you can use at home....something as quick as a home pregnancy test.

Imagine, going out for dinner, a concert/play, getting on an airline or....getting on a cruise ship and being tested before they let you thru the door. A lot better than taking your temperature.

If they can test EVERYONE, so quickly and simply, those tested positive are quarantined. Not the whole country.

And catching those who are carriers, having them treated, will kill the virus as the rest of the world goes about their normal business.

I know I am getting a little off track, but look for it if you're cruising in 2021.

Won't matter what your age is or what underlying conditions you have as long as everyone is screened as the Virus Carriers and weeded out before they get on the ship.

This is how the country is going to get back on track....quarantine the carriers, not the entire population.

I look at it this way.  Those that already spent disposable money on their cruises, and hence have FCC from them being cancelled, obviously were able to spend that money in the first place.  Even if that money went "poof", they aren't bankrupt.  It was disposable income in the first case.

Now, losing sleep over longing for those missed cruises, or the fact that they may have spent money for nothing...  I suppose, but I would hope that the vast majority aren't out there paying for cruises with money they don't have. (i.e. dept).  Who knows though.

I'm not shook up one bit about having FCC.  Worst case I lose it all (which I highly doubt happens), but if it does...  oh well that's life

    Dan

RCI currently has $5000 of my dollars...disposable money?  I won't go hungry if I lost it, but I would be irresponsible.

We have a GS booked, final payment is coming up soon.

I don't want FCC...I'll take the refund, (lose my deposit) and apply that money towards something different. A land based adventure.

If I take FCC, that means they will hold onto my 5K until 2021?  What if they declare bankruptcy before I use that FCC.....

When the cruise industry recovers I will re-book another cruise.

Will also get back what I paid for excursions and specialty restaurants. on top of the 5K.

When we decide to cruise again, I will book a cruise and pay for it as I did this cruise.

  15. There are many cruises booked, some this fall, some a year out.

These cruises can already be booked got full capacity, or close to it. How will they make these changes such as social distancing ?

Cancel the cruise for a 1/3 of the passengers?

We have a cruise booked late August, after the 100 days.  Are they going to tell some people they are cancelled?

  16. This is NOT anything like the SARS, H1N1, Swine, Noro or any other viruses we have encountered in our lifetime....come here to the NY/NJ Metro area where they are making temporary hospitals from convention centers and hotels. Even tents in the park.

Hospitals have refrigerated trucks to store the bodies cause the increase faster than they can process them

There are volunteers coming in from out of state. The Military is in full swing. Have a Navy Hospital ship.

I heard they are recruiting Morticians from out of state to do the embalming?

When a loved one is diagnosed and admitted, that may be the last time you see them. No visitors. They die alone.

People try to compare this to other strains we have had in recent history....I don't ever recall anything like this. It is surreal like a science fiction movie.

I am a essential healthcare worker. Everyday it is like holding a loaded gun to your head. When I get home I strip my clothes in front of the clothes washer, and get into the shower, then fresh clothes.

We are Diamond +, and cruise all the time...but this is something not to take lightly.

Our Next cruise is in August...have no intention of going. MAYBE next august. We'll see.

  17. One thing to keep in mind....this pandemic is changing us, and society as a whole...some things will never be the same.

Myself, I am not sure when I will ever start to shake hands again, or hug a close friend, relative?

When will I feel comfortable going to a movie, concert, crowded ball game.
    Use public transportation.
Am I going to become one of those people we would see wearing a mask for no apparent reason? (generally Asians)

Equate this to a cruise ship....will people feel comfortable  sitting in the main theater? Ice rink? How about the buffet? Yes you sanatize your hands but still sit on top of each other.
How do you enjoy a cruise and distant yourself from others?

Heck, I can't see myself getting past the muster drill.....

Add to all that the bad press the cruise industry has gotten, and peoples perception about cruises.

Its not going to happen overnight....someone is not going to say, "Ok, on such and such a day, at such and such a time, everybody and everything can go back to normal" ALL cruises can resume on September 1st....
It is going to take a long, long time
