  1. Peter - does Carnival have a service charge for charging your slot account to your room? I was recently on an NCL cruise and they had a 3% service charge for charging your slot play to your room account
  2. JF I've traveled on two longer NCL cruises solo in Jan and Feb. I was not in solo cabins and did not attend the solo gathering. I went to restaurants alone and never found myself at worst tables or inattentive servers. NCL seems to appreciate solos as a market and I've been impressed so far this year with them. You should have a good time.
  3. Yes, I found it odd too! I wouldn't have even noticed it but I was having trouble downloading my boarding pass on the NCL app, so I went into my account.
  4. Well, I'm going on my second NCL cruise in a month on Tuesday. My prior NCL cruise had been a charter cruise 7 years ago. So I wouldn't call myself frequent. I have been looking at lots of itineraries however, so maybe they (or the personal cruise consultant they assigned me) thought it would get me to decide on my next cruise.
  5. No. I had a cruise on the Gem last month, no problem, and am on the Joy later this week. My one previous NCL cruise was 7 years ago.
  6. All of a sudden this showed up in my NCL account and I have to use it by February 29th. Does anyone know how I might have gotten it? And does anyone know if there are any conditions besides when I have to book and sail before?
  7. I'm excited too. I love the Jewel class and the Gem. I like that there will be longer itineraries.
  8. I'm going to be on NCL's Joy for it's TA back to Florida after refurbishment on Feb 13.
  9. I just tried the app again moments ago and it appears to be working again
  10. Debnjoe - if you go to menu on the right hand side there is a "My NCL" item and if you go there, there should be an item that says "don't see reservation" and will ask you some questions and look up the reservation.
  11. Second thing I did after restarting phone. thanks for reply.
  12. Has anyone else started recently having issues with the NCL app. My Samsung phone just did an update to it's system (not the NCL app) and now the NCL app is shutting down and I'm getting a pop-up saying the app has a bug and I need to update it when NCL comes out with one.
  13. I'll be on NCL's Gem next week (Jan 16) for their Caribbean cruise.
  14. Have any of the major Transoceanic shippers restarted passenger ops?
  15. As an update, I talked to Carnival and they upgraded me to a balcony and honored the $2128 price so I'm getting a 500+ refund! I'm very happy. I've never stayed in a balcony before.
  16. Sparks, Not sure if it was early saver, but I was able to talk to a manager today who upgraded me to a balcony and refunded me $500. No my fare is just under 100/day. Moral of the story is to just be pleasant and ask nicely to talk to someone in charge.
  17. Hi Dave... I went to high school in Daytona at Mainland in the late 70's. Just moved back to Volusia (Deland) in the fall, from Seattle.
  18. Gerry - Carnival calls them insides with window or insides with porthole - the one I'm in is at the very front of the boat and has a window forward but there is a railing in front - this is normal on Carnival ships on decks 6 and 7. I don't know about the Luminosa but on older ships (Radiance, Liberty, etc) you can sit or stand out there - its usually very quiet.
  19. I will be traveling solo on two Celebrity cruises out of Australia this spring (fall down there) as part of my first trip down-under. I'll be on the Carnival Splendor for the 10-day New Zealand cruise out of Sydney March 28 to April 7 and then the Carnival Luminosa for its 22-day Trans-Pacific from Brisbane to Seattle April 13 to May 4. I've been on 4 4-day Carnival cruises but no long Carnival cruises. I've been on one 15-night trans-atlantic crossing on the Celebrity Constellation.
  20. Pippa - I thought I'd met you on Constellation but wasn't sure. I'd seen you'd noted the Celebration transatlantic and thought maybe I was wrong. Yes it is a small world. Look forward to seeing you again!
  21. For all the folks talking about the Carnival Luminosa TP, I'm booked on that trip in a Inside Obstructed View cabin. I'm actually annoyed that the cost has gone down considerably since I booked. I'm planning to call them Monday and see if I can get a credit or something. I paid $2500 for my room before port fees. I'm also booked on the Splendor for its 10 day trip to New Zealand from Sydney. That trip I do feel I got a decent deal on - $542 for an interior cabin.
  22. Hi, I've booked this cruise and the 10-day Carnival Splendor cruise to NZ out of Sydney. I'm traveling solo and looking forward to the cruises. I've been on 4 4-day Carnival cruises, this will be my first long cruise with them. I'm looking forward to hanging out in the Serenity area. I did my first transatlantic in the fall on the Celebrity Constellation. I'm heading to Australia in late March, booked an award flight with United from Orlando to SFO to Melbourne. I'll be in Melbourne for 4 days before heading to Sydney to catch the Splendor. When I get back to Sydney from the Splendor I'll spend a couple of days in the Blue Mountains, then head back to Sydney for a few days. I will then take the train from Sydney to Brisbane as Pippa suggested above and head out to Manly Beach for a few days before the cruise back to Seattle.
  23. Hi, I've booked a transpacific Carnival cruise from Brisbane to Seattle in mid-April. I'm travelling solo and got an "inside" obstructed view (not fully obstructed) cabin and paid $2518 fare before port fees. Today I was looking at the same cruise and see a very similar cabin, not exact same, going for about $500 less on the Carnival site and about $700 less on the American Airlines cruise portal. My cruise has an $800 cancellation charge so I can't just cancel and rebook. Does anyone have any recommendations - can I call Carnival and request a credit or cost reduction?
  24. September 5 Bahamas from Port Canaveral, 4 day on Carnival Liberty, $109 for cruise + 121.52 for port, taxes, fees. Inside cabin
