Iā€™m so envious! If youā€™ve got a room overlooking Marina Bay ,the view is amazing!Ā
if you need any info on Singapore, I would be pleased to help. I used to live there as a teenager many years ago but have been back since. Not much of old Singapore left.Ā

Thanks! We did upgrade to the bay view, since it is our honeymoon we are splurging a bit šŸ˜‰Ā canā€™t wait!

Note: Ā Chase seems to be the only card (?) that allows spouses (or other pairs?) to combine points. we'll easily have enough spending within the required time period.

Thanks for all of this. Ā Iā€™m doing most of it already, and yes the random points in different accounts are the result of sign up bonuses. Ā My main earning is Amex platinum and Alaska visa (plus I fly AS the most based on their network meeting my travel needs most frequently domestically)

    Ā

one point to add : capital one does allow you to transfer points for free between users, you have to call which is cumbersome, but itā€™s simple and instant once you call. Ā My partner and I have done this when i referred for a bonus, etc. Ā

We arrived in Singapore at 5 in the morning, fortunate enough to be staying at the Ritz Carlton . They let us check in and by 8 we were in our room!Ā
This was the start of the pandemic so maybe they were very quiet.Ā
    Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff.

So great to hear! We will be in a similar situation at the Ritz next month post-cruise šŸ˜‰

  4. @GardylooĀ this is great info. Ā Iā€™ve booked ā€œsimpleā€ awards using AS, and been very happy on SQ and JAL, but ran into the taxes and limits you described above as I began to do my homework for this trip. I hadnā€™t considered another EU gateway, but that makes a lot of sense. Even if I expanded my search to SFO/LAX/etc, many routings still had me arriving at Athens in the middle of the night unless I had a huge layover -so might as well actually take a night and continue in the AM. Ā I do understand the risks in non-connected journeys but a refundable fare for the inter-EU portion should alleviate some of those concernsā€¦thanks again!

  5. The accounts we have miles with are:

    Delta

    Alaska

    AA

    Flying Blue

    virgin
    plus,

    Amex

    Capital One

    Ā

all of the above have 100k+ each, but none have over 500k, which I feel like is making it tricky. Ā The easy ā€œoff the rackā€ options donā€™t seem to present themselves. Ā

If you are asking about a travel agency of any type, we can't name or discuss those.

Iā€™m aware of the prohibition on travel agents. Ā I was thinking of the folks who look at peopleā€™s airline miles and credit card points and then tell them how to build a trip by redeeming them. I suppose that could be considered a ā€œtravel agencyā€ but not in the traditional sense of a travel agent.Ā

  7. Hi there,Ā

consider myself a fan and comfortable user of CC and air miles/points, have successfully redeemed numerous trips for myself. But wondering if anyone has had experience with any of the online services for points and miles consulting or even having them book award travel on your behalf?Ā
    Ā

The prices for this service seem wide ranging, but Iā€™m intrigued as I have a European cruise in late 2024 that I need to get two people to, from the US west coast-preferably in business class. Ā We both have 6-figure balances in points/miles in numerous Ā CC and airline programs, but even looking at ExpertFlyer, the task seems daunting to me for finding availability. Ā Flights will go on sale in Dec23 for this itinerary (bay area or SoCal->ATH, return from FCO->SoCal)

    Ā

any experience or suggestions? So many of the ā€œreviewsā€ or ā€œarticlesā€ on these services online seem like sponsored contentā€¦.

  8. Prepaying for these (and other Ā like laundry, etc) helps avoid increases, as they donā€™t go back and collect the difference, in my experience. When booking months or years ahead, itā€™s saved me a bundle in the past few years as everything seems to jump up pricewise. Ā Alternatively, it makes it more difficult to use a lot of OBC if youā€™ve prepaid everything!Ā

  9. I was on a HAL cruise that stopped in Split too (our ship also missed Olympia, but that was due to nasal swabs and paperwork delays in madness of restart in 2021).Ā
    Ā

Split indeed has plenty of GOT tours and shops and seems to embrace it as a reason to visit. The main walled city centre is a short walk from where we docked, alongside many ferries and other local boats. Ā There was tons of artisans and booths on the short walk into town but it could have just been the day of the week? Tours were easy to find for GoT sights, but we just ventured to a few of the points of interest along the walls, which were marked in signs in multiple languages. We ended up at a cafe along the waterfront boulevard and had a inexpensive lunch and some local beers. Was very pleasant! We were also in October and lucked out with sun and 70f weather to stroll around in. Ā Charming and easy to navigate port!

On the web site it says you have to apply for the credit 4 weeks before your sailing... and I'm sailing on Saturday and didn't know about this benefit until just yesterday šŸ™‚
Anybody know if there's any chance of me getting the credit for next week's trip?Ā  I'm thinking likely not, but maybe I should send for it, just in case...

Silly me, I actually bought those shares (during the pandemic crash) as an investment idea, before I even knew about the OBC offer, LOL.

I would send it in today. Itā€™s not a huge investment in time, and itā€™s possible youā€™ll get it added to the books/manifest whatever, and they just say 4 weeks to give themselves a cushion in case of extreme backlog of requests. Ā Mine usually turn round in 1-2 days max. Ā

.Ā  If you want to make sure that you are completely covered, you can request a larger size robe from your stateroom attendant.Ā  It might be a good idea as the ladies/gents locker room is across the spa lobby, past an elevator bank, and you get to walk Infront of the stairs that lead up to Deck 10.Ā  So, if you want to feel really secure with a robe that completely covers you, consider asking for the larger size from your room steward.

    Ā

Using the regular size robes are not problematic when using the tile loungers, or Therapy pool, or regular pool because you are wearing a bathing suit.Ā  But when you are having a spa service like a massage, you generally are not wearing very much at all.Ā  šŸ˜²

thank you for this note! Iā€™m over six feet (and not skinny either) so I always felt the standard robes felt teeny on meā€¦.but never occurred to me to ask if they had larger ones! Mind blown. Ā Haha! Thanks much. Ā

Yes, certainly worth a phone call to your PCC or TA. I also already had a desired stateroom booked when I first found out about CO. Ā A quick call to my PCC and she did a quick rebooking and in the end I was able to take advantage of the discount and keep my original/desired stateroom.

I was able to do the same through my PCC with HAL. Ā Resulted in less over $ for the same cabin I already had/liked, and the same benefits etc plus club orange. Ā The one asterisk would be if you had valuable early booking or onboard benefits or some combo of things they werenā€™t longer available, youā€™d be likely to need to move to whatever promotions are current. Ā Still worth a call to see if you come out ahead in your circumstance.Ā

  13. Hi there,

    Ā

other than many references to Uber Black (of which I am familiar) I canā€™t find any threads on black car service to LAX. Iā€™ve sifted through a few google searches and think Iā€™ve found some general thoughts (Blacklane=good, but pricey, PrimeTime= cheap, but unreliable) but itā€™s difficult to sort through the real reviews vs the sponsored content. hoping for any personal thoughts and experience here:

    Ā

We are leaving our car (and dogs) with family in Corona, CA on a Monday in November. Will want to get to LAX in early afternoon, and prefer a private vehicle Iā€™m willing to spend more to not sit in the back of someoneā€™s Corolla for 2 hours (I am over 6feet, and this is the start of our honeymoon) Again, I am familiar with Uber Black, but if the price is surging it could be well over $200/way, so Iā€™d rather set a time certain with a reliable company. Ā Could be a large sedan, or a SUV. Ā Thoughts? thx!

    Ā

    Ā

  14. If you have online brokerage account access, an easy way to do it is to screenshot (or download) a statement and attach it to an email. Ā  You can black out Ā things electronically if you prefer. Ā  I too bought some for less than $10/share in 2020 and have gotten more in OBC in the past few years than my initial investment. (And itā€™s almost doubled in value, to boot!)

    Ā

I really hope they keep renewing the benefit annually. Ā Thatā€™s the one caveat, it can only be applied to cruises as far into the future as the CCL board(?) approves it. Ā I believe he current date is something like 7/31/24

  15. Iā€™ve been on more than half a dozen HAL cruises, all while in my 30s, and I have never been bored or felt out of place. Ā The fellow passengers are great company and usually friendly, interesting and kind folks.
    Ā

What i feel is the most ā€œoldā€ on the ships are the comedians constant joking about aging passengers šŸ˜‰

    Ā

But honestly, The only time I have to tell myself to be gracious is when Iā€™m stuck behind a group of folks who canā€™t move as fast as Iā€™d like. Ā But at 6 foot 6, Iā€™m almost always walking faster than folks on land so Iā€™m used to it! šŸ˜„Ā

  16. One more thing: take a moment to stroll Guidecca itself,if you can. I found it to be much less touristy than the central area of Venice, and we easily found interesting markets, a nice place for dinner on the sidewalk where we could people watch the locals during their commute home (for half of the price to eat across the canal!) and Ā other quiet beauty that was more difficult to experience among the hustle elsewhere. A cheaper option would be the Aliluguna water bus.Ā  The blue line goes to the Hilton. It costs only 15E but takes 1 1/2 hrs.Ā  Ā

    Blue Line | Alilaguna

    Ā

    Ā

    Ā

if you do end up transferring to the airport, then making your own way to the Hilton from there, Iā€™d second the Alilaguna suggestion. Ā We did this after a brutal fright to Venice last year, and even though we were tired, it was so nice to go ā€œaroundā€ Venice on the way to Guidecca, where the Stucky is. Ā You took a while, but the journey was pleasant and we got the lay of the land on the way, even a stop in Murano. If you arenā€™t strapped for time (even with drive from Trieste, it may be early to check in) I would not count out this option. Ā Once you get to Guidecca where the Hilton is, there are fewer bridges and the Hilton has its own shuttle boat to get back to Saint marks square (and I think one other stop) for free. Ā We were very pleased with our stay there!Ā
