  1. We normally eat between 6:30 and 7:00 most nights when home. When we're on vacation we tend to sleep later, have breakfast later which means a later than normal lunch which means a later than normal dinner. I love just showing up in the dining room and walking straight to our same table every night with the same wait staff waiting for us, smiling and knowing our preferences. To each their own! But, I hope they never do away with early or late seating for dinner!

  2. I wish they would put those little coffee pots in your cabin, like most hotels do now. The single serve pod type. We would love just 1 cup of coffee each before we head out. I would think that would save the cruise lines so much money by not having so many people ordering just coffee each morning. :D:D

  3. Ship - Dawn

    Deck - 9

    Stateroom # - 9660

    Stateroom Category – BA

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Most of the time. We did hear cheering (playoff games on the tv's) from O'Sheehan's a few times but not loud enough to bother us.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - Yes

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Standard balcony view

Balcony Size? Normal or over-sized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? - No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - n/a

Any specific problems with this cabin? - Not at all!

Any other comments? - LOVE the location. There is a door to the deck 9 "lounge" which is just steps away. The lounge overlooks O'Sheehan's and the Grand Atrium and leads right to the grand staircase. Very convenient!

  4. Do they have certain cabins set aside for the sailaway rate?

We recently booked a cruise 8 days before the sail date - booked a "sail away" balcony. Before I booked it, I did a mock booking to see what balcony cabins were left and wrote down the cabin numbers. 3 days after booking (5 days before we sailed) we were assigned a mid-ship balcony cabin that was not showing as available a few days earlier. We were very happy with what we got! I don't think anyone knows how this works, if they set some aside or what!

  5. We've booked guarantee 8 out of 13 cruises and was never disappointed. One time when we booked a mini suite and selected it ourselves, our neighbor was on her balcony yaking away on her cell phone at 6:30 every morning and smoked constantly (8 years ago). Drove us nuts. We tend to book within 3 months or less so we get what we get and are happy with it. I'm on a ship, cruising away!

  6. Just off the Dawn and I gotta admit....I missed straws with my alcoholic beverages at night. I can live without it when drinking water or soda but when I'm having a cocktail, I like a straw to keep stirring my drink! A few times there was a little all natural little spear in a lime and I would use that to stir and fiddle with. Some drinks just need mixing over and over.... :p

  7. they probably didn't list O'Sheehan's either did they?

O'Sheehan's is listed under "24/7". We ate breakfast there 5 out of 7 mornings. The menu is limited but you can ask for things not listed or shake it up a little. The service was very good, it was never crowded and the food is pretty good! The main dining room is only open until 9:00 or 9:30 and we never made it there. O'Sheehan's was about 30 seconds from our room and became our go-to place.

  8. One more favor? Can you let us know what the parking situation was like at the port? I have read conflicting information about the open air lot at the area in front of the ship. Were people able to park there? They seem to be only showing the satellite parking with the shuttle online. Thank you again!

We parked in the open air lot - 12 Drydock Ave - it is straight ahead after you drop off your luggage. 5 minute walk - $175 for the week. We got there around 10:40, no problem getting in. Plenty of parking.

  9. Lots of white rice and stews! "country fried chicken" was a paper thin slice of dried chicken breast...

Diet and exercise - portion control blah blah blah.

But you did have two other options the MDR and O'Sheehans.

Surprised that the Buffet did not have suitable alternatives - NCL does put on quite a variety.

Remember that there are two sides to the buffet - the short port side and the double length starboard -

the second (aft) section is the danger zone with the deserts sweets soft serve ice cream machine and

diet destroying fare - but FEAR not the spa and exercise facility is just aft of this point - feast and exercise !

We ate dinner in Aqua 2 nights and it was very good. Bamboo was also quite good. We had breakfast 5 out of 7 mornings at O’Sheehans and one or two late night meals there too. We circled the entire buffet every night before deciding where to eat. Nothing ever appealed to us I know food is subjective...just stating our opinion!

  10. We cruised the same itinerary on May 4th and yes, loved the Dawn. Several years ago we cruised her and were not at all impressed. This time almost everything was perfect especially the service. The only thing I disagree with you on is: Luz. We were not at all impressed with her. In fact she might have been one of the worst cruise directors we have ever had. I guess this shows how subjective views can be.

Oh and we also loved the lounges area where they have the small couches near the pool. It works so well for those of us who are mobility challenged and can't get down and up on the actual lounges. At night we spent a lot of time hanging out at Gadbys.

We just got off the Dawn this morning too and I agree with you about Luz...the assistant cruise director was much more personable!

Also, we were very disappointed in the buffet. DH loves the buffet but not this one. 75% of the food was luke warm and the selections were repetitive and unappealing. Lots of white rice and stews! "country fried chicken" was a paper thin slice of dried chicken breast...

  11. Right, sitting area with steps down to atrium. Place you want to visit only but not stay are rooms in the area of 9506 and back a few rooms although I haven't seen recent reports of anyone seeing anything unusual there.

Elaborate on this post..."visit only but not stay...."

  12. Can you please elaborate.... I am in the planning stages and can't make up my mind between deck 9 or deck 10 for the 15 night Panama Canal cruise in Nov 2019 and would hate to have a cabin that has issues!!!

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, please elaborate! I am very curious what that means...
