Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. What time of the year did you go? Wondering if the wetsuits or dry suits would make a big difference? Hawk, how did the drysuits feel? Were you mobile? We've never used one before! Do either of you have photos from the trip?
  2. Hi Coral, Not sure if you are back yet, but if you are, how was the Wildlife tours? Did you see the otters? Also, how was getting a taxi over there? I've been reading the lines are crazy.
  3. Oh wow! thanks for sending that video, those anemone colors really pop out in the water! Does anyone know if the ones in the video are the dry suits? They look more like wetsuits to me. "One of the coolest things I have ever done is snorkeling in Sitka - right up there with riding camels at the Great Pyramids of Giza" My family and I are so excited!
  4. Hi all, I'm on a 10-day cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line in August. I'm seeing a record number of cruises go through Alaska this summer. My family and I want to support local independent businesses, but are afraid we might miss out at the docks if everything is full. Our itinerary is the following: Seattle,Washington Juneau,Alaska Skagway,Alaska Hubbard Glacier,Alaska Sitka,Alaska Icy Strait Point,Alaska Ketchikan (Ward Cove),Alaska Victoria,British Columbia Seattle,Washington How likely is it we can just hop on whale watching boats / fishing excursions / aquatic adventures? Does it vary by locale? Are independent providers the same price, or less than cruise lines? If you do find them ahead of time, how do you do it? Thank you!
  5. Amazing, I think we will do it. Thanks everyone.
  6. Replying to this thread as I found some good stuff on the Ketchikan website: https://www.snorkelalaska.com/about-the-tour/
  7. My friend told me Mean Queen is a great spot for pizza and brews! Ludwigs if you are feeling fancy
  8. Loved Seward. I ended up on a fishing charter with them a few years back with my family. Great town, and Seward Breeze Hotel is a great spot for chatting with locals
  9. Hi! My family is booking a trip with Norwegian Cruise on a 10 day in August. We want to go on as many aquatic adventures as possible! There are a few items we have been looking at: kayaking, whale watching, and fishing. One thing that stood out was snorkeling!? In Alaska?! Has anyone done it? We saw one in Ketchikan as well! Another cruiser sent me a link to Selkie Snorkels webpage and the gallery looks amazing. My questions are: Has anyone done this before? Or even been in the water? Is it cold? Is it safe? If you have done it, what have you seen?
  10. We are looking at a 10 day cruise with Norwegian August 25th! I hope it's not too late in the season to go. Have you snorkeled in Sitka? When is your cruise?
  11. Wow, thank you FrankieJay. This looks like so much fun. The photos are beautiful!
  12. I'm seeing a lot of fully booked tours too. One that was still open was this snorkeling group called "Selkie Snorkels" www.selkiesnorkels.com. They had some amazing photos and great reviews and I don't think they are booked yet for those dates. It does seem cold, but apparently the suits are warm. Could be of interest! my family is highly considering it, especially since we might be in Sitka only once!
  13. Hi all! My family and I are headed to Sitka and are looking for an aquatic adventure. Has anyone heard of or done snorkeling in Sitka or Alaska in general? It sounds kind of crazy, but we are an adventurous bunch.
