Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Unfortunately, 2 days before our cruise departed, they switched ports. Port Said and Alexandria became Santorini and Gythion. After spending close to $1,000 on visas for the family (including photos and postage), we never reached Egypt.
  2. For breakfasts and lunches, does the dining dress code still apply? Or are shorts and sports shoes acceptable?
  3. I’m also about to sail on my first Oceania cruise. Could someone please tell me about the laundry facilities? Are they free to use, or coin operated? Is laundry detergent available? If so, for free or for purchase? What has your experience been with availability? Does everyone do laundry on sea days? Thank you, in advance, for any information!
  4. We depart from Rome on the 17th, and are scheduled to stop in Ashdod and Haifa early November. I keep checking my e-mail for a change in itinerary.
  5. Thank you for this advice! While I agree with other previous posts that we are not leaving Egypt by sailing directly from one Egyptian port to another, I was still nervous about how to prove to authorities at the second port that we hadn’t left.
  6. When I re-board the ship in Port Said, sail to Alexandria, and disembark in Alexandria, will they not consider that to be leaving and re-entering? I suspect we will not leave Egyptian waters, but I also suspect we will have to go through security in Alexandria who will consider us to be entering their country.
  7. We just got our passports back from the Embassy in Ottawa and have our expensive Visas, BUT they are SINGLE entry. Our cruise (Oceania - departing Rome in mid October) has TWO Egyptian stops. Port Said one day, then Alexandria the next. This was clear on our Visa application, but, based on the information we were able to gather online at the time we mailed off our applications, we only included money for single entry by mistake. So now what? On top of jumping through hoops and paying a premium for the Embassy Visas, do we now need to also get e-visas for the second port??
  8. Our cruise stops in 2 Egyptian Ports, so multiple entires. Does anyone know if $150 covers both single entry and multiple entry?
  9. Does anyone know if a specific size of return envelope is required? Or, as long as it can fit the passports, any is fine?
  10. If you go to the Embassy’s facebook postings and go to May 10th, you’ll find a link to a pdf. I tried to share the link here, but don’t know how to do it correctly.
  11. We are debating between flying to Ottawa from Halifax to drop our applications off in person, and mailing in our applications. We leave the country mid-October, so I don’t want to mail our passports away, but the cost and time of going to Ottawa is a bit crazy. Even though Oceania is telling me no visa will be required for cruisers, I’m terrified they may not yet be informed and, a month from now, will deny us boarding.
  12. According to the government of Canada’s website, as of October 1st, ALL Canadians entering Egypt must have a visa that is obtained from either the Egyptian Embassy (Ottawa) or Consulate (Montreal). I’m booked on an Oceania cruise for late October that has two stops in Egypt. When I phoned Oceania, they were aware of the upcoming requirement, and told me that, for cruise ship passengers only, nothing will change for Canadians. Can anyone confirm this? What have people been told from other cruise lines?
