Which is exactly my point.  I would expect this behavior on mass market ships but not on a luxury line.

I find this often mentioned analogy offensive. It seems to me that when derision is aimed at non "luxury" lines, in reality it is more like a "not our kind, dear" type of comment. I was always taught that money doesn't know who owns it. I had thought that this CC board had gotten over this theme the past couple of years.

I am continually amazed at how this topic keeps coming up. Since when do the kids call the shots? In our house it was "here is where we are going. here is what you will wear and here is how you will behave" Long before the electronic stuff.... no way would there be crayons and puzzles and doodads brought to a dining table.  I agree with Pcardad about a lot of adult behaviors that are offensive. Kids aren't the ones saving pool chairs. They aren't saving theatre seats and trivia hour seats. I don't see kids walking out of the bathrooms right past the sinks. They probably don't have the tvs blasting in the cabin next door to me because of hearing problems. Whiners cover all ages. I crack up at the adults that drag around a cutesy bunch of stuffed animals into the dining rooms and put them on the table. To the people who keep suggesting  Disney or Carnival, maybe someone should suggest Holland America. That is just as useful, pointed and unhelpful.

It was on Facebook.   Dare I say?  🙂

I saw that  and would be interested in the answer. There also seems to be an ongoing problem with pool chair hogging which we find very frustrating and I'm hoping this is not going to continue to be a thing.  Thanks

  4. While we like Silversea very much, I'm betting that the head office is aware of this thread and have chosen to allow a clearly weak and ineffective Captain to remain in charge. They should be concerned that he seems to be powerless and would be a problem in the event of an emergency. I personally don't care about the cigars as much as their refusal to enforce their own rules. There a lot of people on this site who have more cruise nights than I can possibly imagine and the fact that this issue is ongoing is very troubling. When there are no consequences, rules are useless.

Jan1, you seem very well connected to NCLH mgmt. What are/were they thinking when they decided to allow unvaxed pax to sail? Doesn’t make any sense to me.

I can see the logic for dropping the pre-cruise test requirement…..hasn’t stopped covid from being spread onboard. But by allowing the unvaccinated (“the great unwashed” I call them) to sail, mgmt is inviting very serious cases to happen w greater frequency.
    Me no happy.

Wow..travel may not be the right thing for you at this time. The chances of coming in contact with "the great unwashed" on Oceana as you call them, may just be too stressful and dangerous.

Just off the Moon on 7-15. On informal night at Atlantide, I saw men either being given a SS jacket to wear or if SS ran out of jackets, the men were turned away from the restaurant.

What a great idea!  For your convenience and for those who are too stubborn or entitled to follow the rules...give them a jacket.... and charge for each use because as with all else...due to covid... they would have to be immediately cleaned for sanitary reasons. Dry cleaning charged to onboard account.

Just a note: nice jeans isn’t a problem with me.

There are a lot of people who feel that those oh so vague "nice jeans" are OK. I actually don't care but I find it infuriating that SS refuses to enforce their own rules. Try walking into the dining room smoking a cigar and insist that you too are special. The loaner jackets are an absolute absurdity.   Oh wait.. they are simply annoying chair decorations. How sanitary are they? Perhaps the person refusing to wear a jacket is actually a "them" and is feeling gender neutral

on the evening in question. Then what?  Why would someone purposely choose a ship when they know in advance that they don't care for the restrictions. The jeans aren't a problem for me either and of course you follow the protocol. No consequences are the way things seem to be everywhere these days.

So sorry to hear that.  Has anyone had serious symptoms or needed advanced medical attention?  Hope not.

Thank you for asking.  A couple of semi miserable days upon return home and of course lost time at work.

  9. A family member of mine and the whole group she was traveling with came down with the virus also but no communication to the passengers. I was wondering why the thread started by Cruise Critic Chris sort of faded away with no discussions about the onboard problems.  Very frustrating.

Actually you pay for ALL excursions including the ones that are said to b are "free".  The correct term for the "free" excursions is "included:  No doubt that you pay for the "free" excursions in every port as part of your cruise fare just like the "free" air, "free" hotel, etc. so even the "free" excursions should have some type of refund however based on history, that simply will not occur.

Of course...poor attempt at humor. We are still in the group that wished that an opt out choice was available.
