  1. I keep seeing 'connie' posted, but for the life of me I can't find anywhere saying what the tarnation it is referring to. Anyone?
  2. Interestingly, the cheapest flights I've found (between Europe ports & US) seem to be from Barcelona back to the US. For some reason, going TO Europe seems more expensive. What means did you use to get to the airport form port, taxi? Was it under $100 USD? Thanks for all the info.
  3. I was pricing out TA due to 0% solo supplement on a different cruise line and the cheapest flights I could find were $600-$800 USD. Is this range you are considering super cheap? Just trying to get a point of reference for a good deal since I have never flown overseas - Hawaii is as far as I've flown & it was under $300 each way.
  4. I've had a couple of responses stating this isn't across the board, but I think I've filtered plum and ***** to look across all of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity cruises with the best result being a 99% supplement fee. Same results even on their transatlantic and repositioning cruises where some other lines offer 0% and almost all other mass lines are significantly reduced supplement. I consider these 2 lines amongst worst in industry for solo travelers, but I do plan to ask onboard at the 'next cruise' desk to see if they have means to cut a deal.
  5. Do you think the cabin attendant will complain if they are found on the bed?
  6. Did you do the slot tournament? Was it a better option if so? It looks like the majority of people win nothing on their cards playing deal/no deal and even if they hit, it's only $5 or something on one of their cards so they still mostly have lost.
  7. Oh - I missed that part. I wonder who I know that will give me their passport number. LOL
  8. Have you booked with a 'dummy' account before? Don't you have to provide a social security number for each passenger? And you just waited til day of cruise and called them in sick? Or just no show.
  9. Wow - that's crazy. I hate when that sort of stuff happens. I feel like I have to monitor my cc's very closely for a couple of months afterward. Best of luck.
  10. I'd rather have this type, but I don't think that will fit in my luggage. Hence the blowup type. Since the IVs close now, I shouldn't have to deflate.
  11. I was considering taking something like this which would be easy to get on a plane without additional fees.
  12. I've only been searching solo cruises recently, so my impressions must not be accurate. I was mainly researching to know if the onboard offer for future cruises might be worth buying - I don't think I found any Celebrity & RC itineraries with low supplements. But I agree - the rooms on NCL are really small.
  13. If it were that simple, obviously, they wouldn't be building solo cabins & NCL would be out of business. I don't think they are intentionally pushing the numbers - I think demand and automation is.
  14. I'd like to see her response to see if she is just pacifying or if she truly agrees. I don't even know how people are finding the solo cabins that are available. The RCL lines have one of the worst websites (shared format) for locating them. I had to go 5 levels deep into a booking to see if the cabins are available or not. And a room is very rarely available from my recent searches. I called the celebrity agents and they can't find them without going through the same tedious process. Eventually they just say there are none to get me off the phone. These cruise lines aren't ready to deal with solo bookings in either case. NCLs booking process isn't perfect, but it's decades ahead of Celebrity. In either case, I think MSC and NCL are the only 2 I'd consider traveling solo on. I think I've seen that you cruise solo on Celebrity some. Is it because you have enough points to get better rates? or what? It's possible there are better rates posted I just haven't seen - but it always come up at 99% extra (or more).
  15. Does that translate to 340 days at sea? I don't think I can afford double rates for a years worth of sailings... 😄 But I appreciate the info.
  16. All the solo cabins with verandas (Edge class ships) are being built flanking the elevators. If you open your door from a solo cabin, you'll be looking right at the people standing & waiting on the elevator to appear. That is why the rooms are smaller - the extra space is being used for people to have a place to stand while waiting on the elevators. You may have to look at the 5th floor layout to understand. & I have no doubt we will disagree on the definition of discrimination. I don't think we'll agree on the definition of victim either.
  17. I feel like Celebrity, & RC as a whole, looked at the types of people that are pushing the cruising market and they started building infrastructure (ships, programs, etc) that would appeal to them. Their intention is likely just to pull those travelers and the rest is just automated supply and demand pricing. It feels much like an airline purchasing experience. They are going to sell at whatever rate they can get - it's up to the customer base to control the rate. I'm traveling solo, but there is no way I would have chosen this ship or RC as a solo traveler. I was a double booking initially so the price I'm paying is at a very good value for any ship. But their practice as discrimination. I'm not paying $15 at a drive thru for a fast food joint burger when I can go sit in a restaurant and have one freshly made for $10. I don't like it, so I spend my money elsewhere. But plenty of people are keeping the drive thru open so they see some value in it. Each ship that is built seems to have more and more solo cabins - if they continue doing this, the number of cabins should meet demand and push the prices down. One item to note is that these solo cabins aren't the same size of doubles. They are smaller & I believe every one of the verandas have blocked views. The verandas are right next to the elevator banks also. If you buy a solo room at double+ rate, please don't let them take advantage of you by booking you in one of those. At least get equal space and view.
  18. Nice photos. I've not been in one yet - July. But I'm traveling during the beginning of hurricane season. I saw a comment where someone was in bad storms their entire trip, and she felt like the veranda set up allowed her to enjoy the space & views without looking past a wet and windy balcony she couldn't use. Due to that experience she stated she will only choose this type going forward. I question if these 'verandas' are built on lower levels than what cruise lines place the regular balconies. I saw one video in a storm where it looked like the waves might go over the floor of the balcony. I'm booked on the 6th level & that gave me a little pause after seeing that video.
  19. I doubt she is purposely making false claims - although she may have confused recycled air as the AC compressor running. She does tend to focus on the positive aspects of ships in her videos but this particular video is one of her more critical. Another youtube video - I haven't located it again yet - has a guy with a napkin showing there is air coming out of the vent with the bifold closed. If the air recycles the whole time, that'd explain the confusion. With the AC off, with 5 sides insulated by other rooms & the hall, doesn't it still take over an hour to heat up the room unless the person on the veranda is going in and out quite a bit?
