That happened to us when we did the Douro cruise. The Red Bull show was in Porto and we had to dock outside the city and then move once the show was over.

We do purchase trip cancellation separately with Travel Guard. My mom has health issues and we have had several claims of significant amounts. Peace of mind for me is very important.
Does one have to pay for the specific trip with this card in order to be insured ? I often pay for my trips through e-check to get additional savings.

We also saw it and thought it was a magical evening. I would see it again if given the opportunity.
I agree with everything that Crustycruiser said. I felt the same way.

Hi Sharon-- We'll "leave the light on for you" as we are staying at the Rad Blu W'front from July 8-10 before we start our Viking Star cruise. Booked it on our own not realizing that this is the go-to place for Viking tours--oh well, too late to change now.:D
We bought a Stockholm Pass as it includes some of the things we had planned to visit on our own, so ended up saving some entry fees. Looks like a fun city and easy to navigate on our own. Saving the Abba museum for last if time permits. Otherwise we'll just listen to our Mama Mia tape when we get home.
"HI" to hubby!
Otis
I was sorry to see that we would miss each other while on our cruises.
Our pretrip is with GC and we only have one full and one half day available. The rest of the time will be spent on tours with GC.
Hope you all are well and have a great trip. Hi to Joan, too :).

We will be coming in on a 3 day pre cruise stay before boarding the Viking Star, May 2017. Looks like we will be staying at the the Radisson Blu Waterfront. I know I will have more questions later but at this point I was wondering if you can recommend a private tour guide out of Stockholm that may offer tours in the City and surrounding area. We hired one in Amsterdam and it was a highlight of our cruise.
Thank you for your time.
We will be arriving on July 31 for a three day pre trip for our Grand Circle cruise and will also be staying at the Radisson Blu. If I find any information for you I will pass it along when we return.

Thanks - basically we will have 1.5 days. The full day we hope to do the Mt Pilatus Golden Round Trip. I've got to find some things to do if the weather doesn't cooperate.
I also need to find a restaurant that does fondue for one and also has steak :) DH is kind of a fussy eater. He likes cheese, but not melted.
We were in Lucerne in 2007 and one day was very rainy and cool so we visited the transportation museum. It was a lot of fun.
We also visited the shopping center which was under the train station. We weren't hungry enough to have dinner at a restaurant so we went to the supermarket there and bought sandwiches and a bottle of wine. We brought it back to our room and enjoyed it there.

We were on a Uniworld Christmas Markets cruise a few years ago and the Captain and his crew did not lower the wheelhouse down completely and we hit the top of the lock. The impact sheered off part of the top of the wheelhouse. We didn't know anything about it (happened at 10:30 pm) until the next morning.
Viking is not the only company to have accidents.

JP, thanks for both pieces of info.

JP, what app did you use on your phone to download your walking maps?
Looking for one that doesn't use an internet connection.

On one of our Viking trips the Aussie couple that we met were given vouchers (prepaid) to put in the tip envelopes at the end. This was addressed to those who prepaid their tips during the talk on tipping.

Cruisinggranmama, have a wonderful trip.

There were people kayaking the day that we were there.

I thought the beer in China was very good. It was offered at almost every meal off the boat.
And another beer.

Thanks for your posts notamermaid, and hoping you and yours all are safe and sound. :)
We begin our journey tomorrow and board our Rhine cruise in Basel June 13. I do hope the bad weather moves away!
From one Coastal North Carolinian to another (:D), have fun. I hope that you are able to cruise thru and not have any problems.

Thank you for the wonderful, informative review. We did the Douro in 2008 and I would like to return some day.

Welcome home, Sam. Your trip sounds amazing. I tell people that we did not go on a vacation but went on an adventure :).
How did you make out with the altitude?
-
Sounds wonderful, Pat. Have a great time.

Is there anyone from the US who is going to Stockholm anytime soon that would be willing to bring back a city map for me? I am looking for one of the free ones that tourist offices hand out :).
I can send postage or a SASE. I will be spending three days there at the end of July/beginning of Aug. We have a few included tours and also lots of free time and I would like to be prepared.
Thank you !!!

Well, our to-do list is now longer. The Lord of the Glen trips do sound wonderful. I wonder if fall or spring would be better, weather-wise. Fairly unpredictable, I suppose.
LOL, mine, too.:D

Thank you, Keltic.

I am enjoying your review and your photos.
What were the nationalities of the guests on board? Was English spoken most of the time?

I doubt if anyone would care if you brought snacks into the lounge after dinner. The bartender would probably give you a dish for them.
Sometimes snacks are provided if one purchases a drink in the lounge (bowl of pretzels, peanuts, crackers, etc.).

On our September trip we were able to go once on the one-week cruise and twice on the two-week cruise. The menu did change from week one to week two. We only went on week one and there were some empty seats on the night that we dined. I doubt they would turn you away if there were empty seats.
