  1. Can you please tell us if you heard from the Intercontinental directly regarding a cancellation? We are booked there for Sunday Nov 26 after a cruise on NCL Dawn and we spoke to them directly to book and confirm and they assured they will be open...

Yes I got a phone call from them today after they re-confirmed with me 2 days ago that they were going to be open. Today they called and canceled. But my reservation was from November 12 to November 14. They do not know when they’re going to reopen supposedly. I would call them for your date but don’t be surprised that they’re going to be closed.

  2. I don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but wouldn't cancelling the cruise be very unfair to those who were able to get flights or hotels or to those who did not need them? Seems a bit selfish to cancel an entire cruise for a small percentage of passengers who are unable to find a hotel post cruise and are unwilling to settle. That is akin to saying they should close Disneyland because LAX is closed and I won't be able to fly home when my vacation is over.

Not everyone leaves for home the day a cruise disembarks. Puerto Rico is lacking electricity and water and things to do outside of certain areas. They needed to evaluate for all their customers not just some.

  3. I was just about to recommend Casablanca. Here's their website: https://hotelcasablancapr.com/

They're suggesting you call directly to book.

Thank you but I just took a look online and it’s not my kind of place. I’m not going to just settle I’ll just rather spend time sitting in the airport then waste money at a place that I’m not going to like. Thank you for the suggestion!

  4. Another aspect of this is that FEMA has booked out some chain hotels (most of the hilton brands, Hyatts, etc.) to house workers and those displaced by the storm. Because their work is done on a moving target, there is ongoing uncertainty. In my opinion, they need to charter a ship and park it in the harbor for the workers. This is what they did for St. Croix with Carnival Fascination. Since PR's economy depends on tourism to a great degree, the impossibility of tourists finding a place to stay is problematic and, in turn, makes it hard for them to visit stores, restaurants and, yes, cruise ships.

Correct. That is why Norwegian should’ve made other plans And sent us to Florida instead of San Juan for the repo from Boston. We are originating in Boston but we end in San Juan so just dump us there? Only a small portion of the island has electricity and the rest is running on generators, only part of the island has drinkable water and many places still need to be rebuilt. So yes dump 2000+ people there. Not everyone can fly out the same day or had plans to before the hurricanes. Now everyone scrambled to change their flights and so the flights are booked up. Where do I stay for 2 1/2 days? What about everyone else?

  5. Has anyone found any currently open hotels that are going to still be open mid November? I’ve already had 2 cancel the Hyatt house and the Intercontinental. Doubletree cannot guarantee that they will be open though I do have another reservation for there. They said they will be reassessing at the end of the month. Thanks

  6. Are you saying that since you are unable to find a hotel after your cruise is over, they should cancel the cruise? Or are there other reasons, unrelated to the lack of hotels, that the cruise should be cancelled?

Let’s see the cruise is ending San Juan from Boston on November 12 and I’ve already had 2 hotel cancellations and the third one can’t guarantee anything till the end of the month. Everyone scrambling to change their flights because of the lack of hotels. San Juan or Puerto Rico in general has very little electricity and drinkable water. So yes the cruise should’ve been canceled. Just got off the phone with the airline and they were absolutely no flights to change to on November 12 for JetBlue.

  7. Thank goodness for your info. We are booked nov 23, and no heads up from the Decanter hotel . I contacted them and they won’t be open till end of November. Was able to the intercontinental

Just double checked as I was just told that they were canceling hotels at the Intercontinental till at least December 1. We had a hotel for mid-November at the Intercontinental and the Hyatt house and both were canceled

** Here is some contact information that may prove useful: **

Sorry to say that lots of information on this list is incorrect. This list is going around everywhere. I’ve had two hotels from that list already cancel.

  9. If anyone can provide info of if there will be anything to do in PR please post. We are scheduled on the NCL Dawn repo from Boston to PR for Nov 12 arrival in PR. Our hotel Hyatt House cancelled our reservation last week. Our return flight is 2 days after staying in PR. Haven’t found another hotel yet as most say they are not opening till Dec 1. Others have scheduled multiple hotels Incase of cancellations which makes it harder to secure a hotel. And prices have risen because of it. So much stress with this trip. I was hoping they diverted away from PR but it does not look that way. I know they need the tourism dollars but the people that live there also need their homes repaired or rebuilt and the focus should be there.

  10. Sorry I know I can Google but I don't know the areas in San Juan. We're going to be staying at the Hyatt House in San Juan ...does anyone know if there's a Starbucks close by? Thanks

  11. You may be very happy with them then... many folks have posted complaints on other threads that all they give you are some hummus and veggies :D

Seriously though - on our 5 day cruise in March, we got canapes delivered about 3 days out of the 5 and one day was hummus, olives, and pita chips, and another was some type of red pepper spread, nuts and crackers. I can't remember the third one. None of it was bad, and we all ate it with our wine on the balcony (we had three cabins in a row and collect all the trays for a party of sorts).

At this point, I'm just going to play it by ear. I may ask our room attendant if cheese and crackers are possible - or I may just do the room service or Ocean View options to stay flexible - 14 days of cheese and crackers might get old after a while anyway. :)

Thanks....I guess we will play it by ear and see how it goes. A fruit plate would be a great option as well. :)

  12. Hello another vegan who may be sailing on the Equinox. I have found in the past for it to be very difficult to cruise as a vegan. I have only sailed on Celebrity once before and it was in 2004 when I was still consuming dairy as a vegetarian. I have sailed other lines as a vegan however and it is very difficult for me as I am also very picky about what I like.

The buffet items can be made with butter or stock.,,even rice and veggies...on other cruise lines anyways. So be sure to ask. I have found that the buffet workers don't usually know so ask a food manager for help. On our cruise last year on Princess I had oatmeal (double check to be sure there is no dairy....this one had just water) ...I added raisins and nuts, and fruit for breakfast most mornings. I had salad and fruit for lunch....like every day.

In the MDR they have you work with the head waiter or maitre ....it depends on their perception and ability to understand your diet and limitations. I have had horrible horrible experiences just this past year on Princess. They just didn't grasp what vegan was and that people like to eat more than pasta, salad, and bread....and sorbet and fruit. I did finally get some beans and quinoa....but let's just say....they were lacking in creativity and flavor. In the to not let it affect my cruise.,,,,but sitting there watching my Omni hubby eat a variety of food (nothing I would eat however), I feel left out from the food experience lol. We usually arrive a day or two before sailing so I go to a store and get vegan butter and other vegan stables to bring on ship. Bring a small plastic or glass container and bring enough for any bread or veggies you want to garnish. I also brought some powdered dry coconut milk that I used a few times in iced coffee. Of course some nuts and vegan snack for ports and flights. Good luck!

  13. So flying into LAX heading to the Best Western in San Pedro. I am assuming Uber will be able to make the trip? Any estimate of PRICE for trip by those that have done a similar trip? This will be a Saturday mid afternoon. How long would the trip be time wise?

Also, another trip would be from the Hyatt Centric to Lax also on a Satuday but late afternoon early evening. Not sure how traffic on a Saturday would be going into the airport. We have a 9pm-ish flight time. Price for trip and time for commute??

    Thanks!!

  14. There isn't much in easy walking distance, Ports O' Call Village is a long walk. The USS Iowa is walking distance.

There is a lot nearby that you could cab or Uber too.

The Fort MacArthur Museum is cool, the Korean Bell, the Cabrillo Aquarium, Downtown Long Beach, the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Queen Mary and The Pike.

Thanks...our hotel for after the cruise we are actually staying at the Hyatt centric at the pike. It's our anniversary the day we disembark so instead of heading home we decide to stay a few days more and I booked the Hyatt. Pre-cruise however we're at the Best Western. I looked at getting a rental car pre-and post-cruise but between all the extra fees it's just doesn't seem worth it. We're flying into and out of LAX. I hope we can find some things to walk to or something that's not going to cost too much to get around. We haven't used Uber before but I might check it out. Thanks!

  15. Hello...

Well unfortunately we already booked the Best Western in San Pedro before I read some so so reviews about it. So our Princess pre-cruise nights will be there. Can anyone recommend a vegan friendly restaurants in the area?

What about things to do as we are going to be there two days? Anything in walking distance worth seeing or doing? Thanks

  16. I feel your pain.... I am a long time "veggie". Cruising is always an experience for me for sure. I had been still consuming dairy on my last Princess cruise 5 years ago and still had many issues. I no longer consume dairy and am now a vegan. We have a 10 day cruise coming up and i think i will be eating lots of salad...unless they run out of iceberg lettuce like the last Princess cruise.

Cruisers beware as the information between the chefs and waitstaff is not always correct. I had been told some desserts contained no egg and dairy to later find out that info was not correct. What about people with allergies? One night I was ordering a black bean soup that was marked vegetarian. I asked it it had chicken or beef stock or other animal ingredients in it. I was told it was okay for me to consume. I insisted that the waiter double check. He came back and said it was fine for me. A few minutes later another waiter came out and said that another chef said it had chicken stock in it. After a conversation with the head waiter I was told there had been a change to the recipe and that the menu had not been changed. What? You just can't do that.

So....I always email ahead of time and get the standard..."talk to the head waiter onboard". I replied back about the availability of iceberg lettuce for salad and non dairy milk at the coffee bar. The reply said they can't guarantee food items and that soy milk would be available in the dining room and room service per request. I don't drink soy milk but do like almond or coconut milk...soy if I have too...in my iced coffee. So...I guess the coffee bar is out?? :(

One perk....I will most likely loose weight on the cruise like i did last year on a NCL cruise lol. I am glad there is usally plenty of fruit onboard..... Now if they only had a made to order juice bar for my green juice.... :)
