Just got off of this cruise yesterday and had a very nice time. Your price seems high, but maybe the price is higher because it is over Valentine's Day. We paid $900-something total for an oceanview but were upgraded to a spa balcony for $299.
These cruises have not been selling out, so if you take a lesser cabin you may just get an upgrade call. If they aren't offering what you want when they call, just ask for it. Their offer was to upgrade to a suite but we didn't want to pay that much more...so we asked about the spa balcony. They said they weren't selling those that day, but we said if you want to sell us an upgrade that's what it needs to be...and so we got it.

I did miss getting the melting cake. When we left I asked where it was...

While everything was very tasty, we remember enjoying the Chef's Table on the Pride just a bit more a few years ago. We remember the food being a bit more avant garde and cutting edge.

Yeah...not on the waterfront street or on Bay Street, but rather on a cross street between them. Enjoy!!

I agree with the OP.
First, I'm always flattered to see when RuthC reads one of my posts...and second, I'm always glad when she replies because I know I'm getting reliable and accurate information.

We watched this 20/20 clip while we were on the Carnival Splendor last Friday. Each time we see something like this we always say that you have to be doing something wrong to fall from your balcony. I've never had a balcony railing that came lower than above my waist (and I'm 5'11")...so to fall over I would have first had to have been leaning over...way over. After watching the infrared camera shot we wondered if she wasn't standing on a chair or stool on the balcony, which would give her body leverage to fall over easily.

We just did the Chef's Table on Splendor. I can post the menu if you'd like.

Does anyone know if you can buy either brand in Freeport or Nassau? This is our first cruise there and I love the rum cakes. I always buy some in Grand Cayman.
Yes, there is a Tortuga Rum Cake store in Nassau.

It's in dispensers on the wall of the shower. You do get the lotion in little bottles.

A GREAT perk that we just discovered in our Spa Balcony on Splendor is the Elemis products all in the little bottles (and bars of soap) in our room...just like it used to be on HAL. I'll take it.

What time were you able to get into the port in NYC for embarkation? Thanks!!

I've been to HMC several times on HAL. There is a little market area with a few local craft items that I believe you can pay in cash...otherwise it's all on your stateroom account.

Thanks. When can you get into the building?

We sail on Splendor out of NYC tomorrow. What time can you get into the port? Anyone know what time they start boarding?
Thank you!!

I don't know the category, but we were in 2473 - an oceanview.

Thanks Ovgirl. I didn't know this about the Edam. We will be on her next month and we have one of those rooms on deck 10 and we booked the thermal suite package for 14 days. It will be nice to use that staircase.
Unless something has changed, you won't be using that staircase (if it is still even there).

I think somewhere in the initial design stages, the spa cabins were supposed to include the Thermal suite and pool. That's why on the Eurodam there is/was a circular staircase directly from the spa stateroom deck right into the thermal pool area.
Then somehow, they changed their mind about including this benefit and did not add the staircase to Nieuw Amsterdam.
We also heard that they will be (or have) taken the staircase away on Eurodam.
Seems like that idea was a bit of a flop.
Maybe the designers and money crunchers will get together on the next ship design.
In the beginning I know people in Spa staterooms could use the staircase (because we saw it happen). It was still there but roped off last year when we were on Eurodam, however when we went up to the next floor, there is no evidence of where it would have come out.
I mean, really? Honestly on this upcoming sailing...we were reserved in an oceanview and upsold to a spa balcony for just $299. We would have already been paying $200-something for the Thermal Suite package, so this was a no-brainier for us.

Soda service fee
in Carnival Cruise Lines
Posted
Just got off Splendor with BB. We paid the gratuity up front when the sticker was purchased...it was just part of the package and not negotiable. There was NEVER any receipt when we got a soda and most times the card was never even swiped (the few times it was swiped was only for identification purposes to look at the photo of who was actually getting the soda).
