  1. I'd like to hear from someone who got the upcharge steak (and obviously someone has at some point) to see if they thought it truly was worth it.

I've gotten it before. The only reason I did it was because I had to burn up some obc on the last day and didn't want to waste what was basically free money still on the table. It was a nice steak but I don't think I would ever do it with out the Obc just not sure it was good enough to pay what amounted to about $60 at the time with the normal cover charge plus the up charge.

I have always had a good steak when going there and haven't had the issue some seem to have with the quality. Maybe always using obc for these restaurants makes me a little less critical? I do think the filets have always been better for me in Gio's and Portifinos.

  2. If you were looking at a trip soon I wouldn't do it but seeing as you're talking about July and you will be 5 months into recovery I would be fine dong it. If it was me I would just book it and then get cancel for any reason insurance. Then if you decided things haven't gotten better you can always cancel.

  3. I learned this one the hard way. I just recently came back from Australia via LAX. TSA Pre was not printed on my second boarding pass from LAX but I figured no problem since I had already gone through security in Sydney. Unfortunately, when you exit customs at LAX, you exit outside meaning you must go through security to get to your connecting flight. I tried convincing the TSA reps I had TSA Pre, but no dice. The global entry at LAX was a breeze, though.

LAX makes going through the process worth every penny. That customs line is insane! I haven't really found it changes much on a cruise but I also haven't had to ever deal with really long what's when leaving either. Most cases I've been able to just walk off, grab a porter, and be out in 10-15mins.

For the original question I completed everything required and had my cards in my hand in 3 weeks start to finish. I can imagine this is really dependent on the area you live. Others that I know have completed the process in 3 1/2 & 4 3/4 weeks.

  4. Thanks Bob. That seals the deal. Sabor it is in March for us. No mention of desserts though on the menu and I know they offer them.

When ordering, what do you get? 1 entree, 1 appetizer, etc. or unlimited like it was at Qsine on the Celebrity Summit?

They only have the dessert sampler/platter that is shared, unless something has changed.

  5. My sister and I are wracking our brains trying to remember my first cruise celebrating her MBA graduation on Royal.

We left at the end of May, 1990 out of San Juan. The itinerary was going through the Panama Canal with stops in Costa Rica, Cartagena , and Aruba, (almost missed the ship at this stop, first and only time. Boy did I learn a lesson.

But, we cant remember the exact name of the Ship? We had a wonderful time, I especially remember the great staff, officers, and emeralds! As well as a lot of Champagne.

Google came back and told me Song of Norway was sailing 7 night trips from San Juan in Jan. 1990. It doesn't show a route and was just a small corner add in a magazine listing the ship, days, departure port, and price.

  6. I don't know if this would work and could be a hassle but what if you booked everything with your cc ahead of time and then cancel them all just before you leave. The ability to book in advance closes a couple days before the cruise so people couldn't claim your canceled spot until they board so you should be able to get them right back once your on the ship and using your onboard credit at that point.

The other option if you're diamond and above or in a suite you can get help in either lounge. They never seem to have an issue getting whatever time you want.

  7. So those of us that have stayed loyal to RCI and finally attained our D+ status are being downgraded.....nice

Just curious as to why people think of it this way? I've been in both and see nothing different from one to the other. Each time they have offered the exact same service as far as I could tell, what am I missing that is different?

  8. Maybe replace with Cuba? It's not even as far. :D:D:D

U.S. government has already approved licenses to companies that want to run ferry services to Cuba, and Port Miami is considering building a terminal for it. Carnival's Fathom line is either already sending, or gearing up for, social program cruises to Cuba. Vacations aren't far off.

Its much further off than you think. As of now anything going into Cuba must be for educational purposes and must be included as part of any stop, at least when coming from the U.S. Getting even 2000 plus people to do only educational things would be a challenge. A lot still needs to change before you have U.S citizens visiting on a regular basis.

  9. On my past cruises, as of last year, you had to settle your cash account the night before leaving by 11p.m or so. If you want to use your sea pass after that point you need to leave money with them basically giving yourself obc.

So if you had obc left you would find out then and you could cash out any refundable obc you have left. I've never had obc left going into the last day so can't say for sure that would work.

  10. We loved Wonderland on Quantum and have it booked for our second night on Anthem in three weeks.

The food is delicious, unique, bursting with flavor and presented so imaginatively and creatively. Service is top-notch. Surcharge currently on Anthe is $49.00 per person.

    Jonathan

That's much better than the $75 I was thinking. Not sure were I saw that but glad its much cheaper.

  11. "£2350 for 2 weeks on Indi without a flight...

£340 per night for a couple.

You can actually stay in the Ritz Carlton and eat there for this much.

In Birmingham i can eat at a michelin star restaurant for £100 a head and stay in a 4* Hotel and still have enough money left over to go see a show at the theatre.

the food will be better, the service will be better the room will be better the show will actually be a west end production.

If i paid this much and got the food from the last 2 cruises then id never book again. Today 03:23 PM"

Thats great, I guess but not sure why you're replying to my comment. If thats what you're after then I have no clue why you would book a cruise.

  12. Why is it that people who eat hot dogs, burgers and pizza at home all of a sudden become Michelin food critics when they board a cruise ship??

lol...This is true of so many people. I'm not saying people shouldn't expect good food but expecting and wanting fine dining on a cruise just isn't realistic. Some of that is rccl's fault labeling things as fine dining or world class.

Op also remember what one person labels as bad food, is good to another. Its all very, very subjective. You'll see reviews or threads were people say the food is inedible and trust me that is not the case. Oddly enough those people never leave hungry with all the inedible food they talk about. So just like to complain and be noticed on the boards

  13. St Lucia - Iyanola Dive Ventures with Curtis John. Did 2 drift dives around the Pitons. (don't be afraid of the drift! It's easy and fun!! Never did one before but it was fantastic and not hard or scary at all!) It has been my favourite dive so far. Loved it. $125/person, but he picks up at the cruise pier for a rather long boat ride to the Pitons (hence the $125 price tag - it's a bit of a long ride. Pleasant though.)

I agree. Drift diving is one of my favorite things. So easy. A lot of people get scared from the word current but when done right it takes almost no effort from the diver.

I'm sure one of the dives you did was Supermans flight which is a great dive and probably the best one in St. Lucia.

  14. I would also pick Cozumel as a first choice. All of the stops are good for diving but for Belize and Grand Cayman the best sites you just can't get to when going from a cruise ship.

If Cozumel is your first stop on the trip I would have a back up plan at one of the other stops. It can get pretty wild and the diving/water activities can get shutdown but the local authorities. If its your last stop and he wants to make sure he'll be diving go with Belize or Mahogany. It doesn't happen as much any more but I've seen Grand Cayman get skipped because of rough waters and tendering isn't possible.

  15. Correct, they do not accept prepaid Visa cards. The OP should either buy OBC or bring enough cash to cover their expenses.

They have accepted them from me, it was last year but they took it. I had one given as a gift and used it for payment. I just set it up as a cash account then on the last day went and used it to pay off the account. You wouldn't be able to set it up from the start on the website but it is possible or at least was.

One thing about those that I didn't know, the person that gave it to me did some research and a lot of those can't be used outside of the country. They picked one that could be used internationally and work like a charm. G.S didn't even question it when I handed it over, just ran it and gave me the receipt.
