  1. Yes, she is done. You may have issues with the door keys. Andrew Finegold is the concierge there now. He is awesome. He is leaving in May for vacation, then off to the Brillance.

The lounge has a great view as the other poster mentioned. Two computers and a nice specialty coffee machine. Continental breakfast in the morning, drinks and munchies at night. Cookies in the afternoon. Its all new furnitures. The chair are yellow with these dumb cushions that everyone takes off and throws anywhere. I would imagine someone will get the hint and just remove them as if you have a big butt, or even medium size butt, the cushions take up too much butt space.

The bartenders are great. Andrew said he had 70 Diamonds on board for the 4nighter. Do remember D+ and P go there too as its way nicer than the Concierge lounge and I do not know how many more that was, but there were lots of Pinnacle folks wearing their P Pins. He did tell me a number for the TA and it was a big number, but I don't remember as I have to wait to retire to do TAs.

The only downside, which is similar to other D lounges, is that it is not closed on top, so if there is a function going on in the Viking Crown during happy hour, its very loud.

    You will enjoy.

Did they put it in the 19th hole then? Guessing so as that place was only busy during the diamond event in Jan.

  2. I wish that were the case, but our experience is that there are very few C&A upgrades anymore. The revenue dept. does the overwhelming number of upgrades, freeing up staterooms they think they have a better chance of selling close to the cruise date. If they do their job well, there are no C&A upgrades to be had.

This is always how I have received an upgrade. Never with c&a.

  3. Are you flying the day of the cruise? The day before? What time do you leave the east coast? Land in Hnl?

Typically I book my flights for long travel as red eye flights so I don't have to worry about jet lag. Just sleep on the plane and arrive to your destination in the morning when you wake up. That has helped a ton when I have gone to the South Pacific. If you're going the day before it won't be a issue as you will have time to recover and relax on the island. If going the day your ship departs that will be more challenging. If it was me the day before I was to fly out I would try to adjust my sleeping by staying up late(Maybe all night so I can crash on the plane) or going to bed early to make up the difference. In the end my choice is always to suffer with out sleep and be exhausted at home vs. on vacation.

  4. Did you try the new TEST menu in Chops currently on the Navigator? Charge now $35, most steaks a-la-cart, onion soup and crab cake gone and my favorite?????? Baked potato replaced with TOTS!

Onion soup is still on the menu. Just instead of one cheese now it has three.

  5. I agree.

We just returned from Grandeur on Saturday and as mentioned there seemed to be a lot of towels left on chairs for staff to pick up. I don't know about stealing of the towels, but having worked with the public for many years, let's face it---there are quite a few folks who would steal anything that is not nailed down. I don't want to pay a higher cruise fare for others to steal or discard beach towels.

I'm sure there maybe other reasons that they would bring back checking in/out but I'm sure this is up on the list. Some people don't care if its quality or not. Its no different than hotels putting prices on pillows, sheets, irons, and everything else. They do it because people take them. Personally it doesn't matter to me if they bring back the check in/out I never had a issue on any cruise because of it. I know that some did have issues but that was a small percentage of people cruising so I can see them bringing it back.

  6. I know you can get food to go from Johnny Rockets...but have not been on a ship yet with the other two...No charge for Food from JR...only drinks or milkshakes...and since it would be to go, there should not be a cover charge either...

To be fair on Allure breakfast is free with no cover charge. Anyway to the op's question I never took lunch back to the balcony as I would rather the unlimited onion rings. However did it a lot of mornings for breakfast. The skillets they have work really well to stay warm for the walk back to the balcony and its much better than room service for me anyway. I would think the lunch food would stay warm enough to get back to the room. Not much different than going to a drive thru and then taking it home.

  7. Day four of trying to book shore excursions, a dinner at one of the specialty restaurants and spa services. Total on hold time has to be well over 12 yours, over 10 today alone. 6 hours spent trying to do things online only to keep getting error messages on their website for a variety of things.

    .

You are far more patient than I would be. Although I don't have 10hrs to spend on the phone during the day either. I can't believe it even let you be on hold that long. Crazy

  8. Royal Caribbean rarely if ever contacts you for an upgrade. Carnival does that. You can upgrade yourself at any time. You just pay the going rate and pay the difference

I can't agree with this. I get calls before every cruise over the last couple of years. However it does matter your status for sure. I never received a single call when I was Gold, Plat.,or Emerald.

Edit: For reference only one cruise was on Allure. The others were Jewel, Adventure, and Freedom.

  9. For those of you that have tried to get breakfast delivered to your cabin with use of the in-room room service breakfast card...

Did you succeed (and on what ship)?

Every time (and on what ship)?

How did you do it(and on what ship)?

    Epic fail(and on what ship)?

I've heard it can be done...but not dependable. I am taking my 74-year old mom on a cruise in a few days and would love to surprise her with poached eggs on wheat toast.

Do you mean has anyone succeeded in writing in something special that isn't on the normal door hang? Otherwise I guess its new to me that people have so much trouble.

  10. In the past I have always dived with a blunt end knife. I used to do shore dives off the SoCAL coast and much diving in Kelp beds. I really don't want any hassle on the ship so I thought about bringing EMT shears instead of a knife. Has anyone had any experience taking these on and off the ship?

I take them on every cruise and never had a issue. No reason to have a knife in the carib unless you are planning on doing something like wreck penetration and could encounter wiring. Otherwise don't waste your time with a knife and the hassle.

  11. Damn, I want some of your luck! 4 times in a row? That must be some kind of record! Are you a distant relative of Adam's or something? :what:

When you are paying for a family to cruise every year and are D+ I guess they like to upgrade. They're also more likely to sell a balcony room last minute vs. a js/gs. Upgrades happen so much its crazy. The one I have booked in March I have gone from a d1-->js-->gs-->os in less than 2 weeks because of demand for other cabins.

  12. I'm thinking A myself. You only get the points if you pay for the cruise - apparently, in OP's parents' case, the TA took their money, pocketed it and then put them in the free cabin they had. Even if you get a free upgrade from, say, a balcony to a JS - you do not get the double points since you did not pay for the JS. Last weekend, I stayed in a hotel for which I have a loyalty account. However, since I got a special group rate for the group I was with, I did not get the loyalty points for my stay. That's the way the industry operates.

That has never been the case for me. My last 4 cruises I booked and paid for a balcony and was upgraded to a js on one & a gs on three and got extra points each time.

  13. I've had to travel recently. Hotel rooms were booked by my employer. I stayed at Hampton twice, Sheraton twice, and a Courtyard once. I belong to all three of their loyalty programs. Since my employer used hotels.com to book the rooms, I got NO credit for any of them.

Then they messed up. I book with priceline, hotels, hotel tonight, and pretty much any discount booking site weekly and have never not received points for stays.

  14. So I'm confused. I haven't traveled as much as some and more than others but never once was I told to shake someones hand. Didn't matter if it was the Captain, Bar Manager, Cabin Steward, or another traveler. So it seems the simple solution is don't worry about everyone else and make the simple choice not to shake hands. Its crazy they won't even kick you off at the next port for not doing it.

  15. I don't mind the formal nights and like to dress up. I mean who doesn't like to look good? However I think Rccl would have less dress code issue's if they made Formal nights into semi formal. So men would just have Shirts, ties, and dress pants. Women could still do a less formal dress. I think more would follow that. Either way I love these threads so I can read about all the people that say its suggested even if its listed in the cruise contract. So they wear "x" and the same people are jumping on others about taking booze or steamers or whatever on the ship breaking the same contract. At this point I should just know people make their own rules to fit what works for their trip but its still funny to read.

Sorry that was way off track and didn't have anything to do with the original post. Sorry Op

  16. Never seen a Hamilton or Omega on a ship. I haven't been on Oasis but Allure didn't have them.

Those are the brands that I remember besides a lot of others in the $10-$100 range. You will be able to get the same price(or better) as the ship on the islands but you will have to talk them down some.

  17. Good observations... I'm not familiar enough with migraines/Imitrex/stroke to know, but if Imitrex would be contra-indicated in case of possible stroke, then that would certainly support the argument that the onboard doc wasn't THAT concerned about a stroke.

In the end, as you say, we just really don't know, not enough info.

I do think RCI has handled it badly after-the-fact, from a PR and guest relations perspective.

The doc didn't give the op the meds its what she had with her for her condition. However you would think he would look at the bottle before allowing her to take them just to make sure she was taking the correct meds. Seeing as she didn't seem to be in her right mind or that is what they thought he/she would want to make sure its ok. Or at least I would hope that is the case.
