  1. Thanks for the clarification everyone. Would have been nice if they had included somewhere that they don't do reservations. Would have saved me a lot of confusion!

So, do I just show up early for the shows I want to see? Are there issues with them filling up? Specifically I am interested in the Adult Only Comedy Show.

I have never seen the late night comedy fill up if its offered. Seeing as they use the theater on the smaller ships and not a "comedy club" like O&A it won't be a issue

  2. My guess would this will go back to Mexican food after the Alaska trips. Its easy for them to restock fresh crab/fish at each port. That isn't really a option in the carib. I do like the idea of local brews on tap. This is something I thought they should have been doing all along. With how popular local/craft beers have become they could be doing this at a select bar on board pretty easy.

  3. Can't say for sure but typically if you give them a little notice they make it happen most of the time. If I was going to order one there I would make the request at lunch time or early after noon so they could plan for it. Your answer still maybe no but more likely a yes if not asked when you walk in for dinner.

  4. I never really found it a problem. However typically I'm getting off the ship first thing so am there at 7-730 and could just walk in and eat with out issue. I'm sure at 830-9 it would be a nightmare once they start seating you. On sea days I always used j.r or mrd so that never was a issue either. I went at lunch one day around noon and that was a mess with people but the group always all went to the same side. I walked right in on the other as no body was waiting. So check both entrances if you do go. As for the food the selection didn't seem any different than another ship. Both sides are the same just like the others just spread out differently. I think a lot of times people forget this is a buffet and buffet caliber food.

All of that said if you are going to the WJ every day you are missing out. With so many other options you can really change all the time. MDR, Park Cafe, etc are all great options.

  5. I have only been on rccl but on a couple of their ships I have toured the security area and they have cameras in the hallways. It seems strange other ships would't have these. I would guess there would be "blind" spots but not sure how anyone would know this except to get really lucky. Those safes on the ship couldn't hold everything I have with me so I have always asked the steward to keep my door closed if they aren't in it. I can't say if this is done all the time but not much else I can do. Just no way you can fit camera, lenses, computer/tablet, and other common items.

  6. when Mum and dad aren't around to be immediately informed, they WILL run around in packs. no matter how trustworthy and well behaved/mature they are in front of the 'rents, when they are on their own all that flies overboard. especially when they find new friends they want to impress and seem 'cool' to.

they congregate in stairwells, they race down the halls( damn near been knocked over a few times) and my personal favorite, dropping ice cream cones from open areas a deck or two above.

OP, unless you lay down the law and make it very clear what you will and will not tolerate the ship itself will not babysit your kids for you at that age although if they are caught doing stupid teenager tricks they will be confined to the cabin and when you get back on board will be told to keep them in line.

Wow ok. Painting a really broad stroke with this one. You know your kid and if they can handle it. Personally I would have no issue with it because I know they wouldn't be dropping ice cream on people, jumping off the side, or whatever else.

  7. I try not to leave things behind, but on my last cruise on Celebrity, I went to store my empty suitcase under the bed and I found 2 boxes of unused condoms under the bed...true story. I didn't know how to "dispose" of them. Really didn't want to leave them in the trash for the room steward to find them.

I'm pretty sure they have seen them before. I think you worried a little to much about that. I mean they sell them in the gift shop on board. Anyway if I have anything extra I would rather not travel back with I just ask if they would have use for them and if they don't just toss the items.

  8. I've had it happen a week before a couple of times and as short of notice is the day of. The last one I they called 4 days before and then was switched again when I checked in at the port this included my bags going to the wrong room because it was that short of notice. I'm not sure there is a standard time frame but I have always received a phone call from them to let me know the difference in tip amount as for the most part it was a standard balcony going to a suite of some kind.

  9. They called me a couple weeks ago about my Jan. 18th trip on Freedom. They gave me 8 protected price points for other cruises if I rebooked by the 12th. At first I was kind of disappointed but with all the compensation it worked out great. In the end I just moved it to Feb so its the same everything except I'm coming out way ahead. I didn't even fight with them over the hassle of rebooking and walked away with $1500 obc between the couple of rooms I had booked. I'm actually glad it happened to me. I can deal with the hassle to move it two weeks back and save that much.

  10. I wasn't able to be credited the discount on board because of the pre pay and the deal was for onboard reservations only. So what they had to do is cancel/refund my pre pay and then rebook. In my situation when I got on board Adventure they had a pay for 4, get one free, and a bottle of wine up to $50. So it was a hassle to cancel and rebook but worth the trouble. It may not be that involved and more a case of they didn't know how else to handle it. Either way you will be able to get the deal some how.

  11.

If the cruise has been chartered, then Royal will eventually notify you. Don't cancel before official notification because you won't get any consideration (should Royal offer any) if you cancel on your own.

Hopefully it's just a website glitch.

For sure wait for them to contact you. Just had this happen and they offered the same price I paid for any other cruise in the same room. I was able to bump up to 9 days from 7 because of this. Also got obc because of it. I didn't ask for any of that they just called said sorry and put that on the table. They gave me two weeks to select something else before the offer was off the table.

  12. They still do it for sure. Honestly I don't remember which day it was. I think it was either the 2nd or 3rd day on my last cruise. That may move around a bit by ship. If you just ask one of the wait staff when you board they will tell you which day.

  13. It was on my last cruise in Jan. For the most part everything that is in the dining room is also in the Windjammer. Some things aren't but that would be. Its pretty easy to double check if you just go up to the Windjammer when it opens just walk through and see if it has what you want. If it doesn't you can still show up later to my time dining and get what you want.

  14. I have seen some where on the website that any upgrades may be withdrawn if they are able to sell the upgraded cabin to some one else. I am not sure exactly where I saw it, hopefully some one will be able to help out with a link or a copy of the upgrade terms and conditions

Someone already posted the fine print from the website earlier in the thread. You are correct that is does say basically that. The fine print is in post #25

What I consider this is a breach of contract. Royal Caribbean gave you an upgrade(like a hotel). In all my years of travel I have gotten many an upgrade from a Hotel and never have they revoked my upgrade.

In fact last year my Father and I were in Vegas and the agent assigned us a room on a lower floor when we were supposed to get a room on a higher floor. So this other agent called her manager and we were upgraded to the 1 Bedroom Penthouse Suite.

My point is if Royal gave you the upgrade and you printed off your set sail pass you should be in this room unless there were other circumstances but Royal should have told you and put you in another cabin in the same category or better as the upgraded room.

I would email Adam Goldstein agoldstein@rccl.com with your confirmation# and screen shot of the reservation.

If IT downgraded you due to a computer error then they should be responsible to fix your reservation to reflect the upgrade. Your upgrade falls under confirmed upgrade as you have the documents reflecting the new cabin. If they downgraded you to your original cabin without even contacting you or even assisting you to keep the upgraded cabin then you have a case.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the OP was confirmed to a better cabin as opposed to an upgrade based upon availability at time of checkin like at hotels.

Again once an upgrade has been extended they cannot for the most part revoke it unless it was an upgrade based upon availability.

Based on what was said they didn't print of the docs stating the cabin upgrade. They printed docs off for the original cabin and only have a screen shot of the upgrade. The Rccl fine print says they can remove the upgrade. The strange part to me is the room isn't even booked. That leads me to believe it was a computer error vs. a upgrade. A screen shot doesn't do much for you either to help the case unfortunately.

  15. are you a frequent cruiser/C&A member? have you checked the box that says upgrade me?

any of those "pay for a OV get a balcony" deals are NOT a deal. they UP the price on the OV to equal the cost of a balcony ( and also increase the price of a balcony so you think you are getting a discount).

I have been upgraded free many times and have also done the sales with a upgrade to a higher cat. for no additional cost. The price was increased on that cruise anyway. Maybe yours was booking faster. The less rooms available will increase the cost.

  16. We just love Roatan. We've become friends with Rony of Ronystours.com. He is very proud of his beautiful island. So many of the residents of Roatan rely on tourism. I hope RCCL doesn't follow NCL. I also think NCL will return to Roatan soon.

I sell real estate and many people in our area don't even lock their doors. It is a very "safe" area. However, like anywhere else - you can get one crazy person that becomes violent.

The article doesn't read like it was one crazy person if they are talking about a string of events over time. However I do agree in that a small percentage can change things for everyone. There is problems in the Bahamas all the time and they still stop there so this won't be any different. Security will be tighter in the tourist areas I'm sure and as long as visitors use common sense. I wouldn't have a worry traveling there.
