  1. My wife and I were on the Veendam after a refurb for a Panama Canal Cruise about 10 years ago. There were many major problems on the cruise to include missing a port in Nicaragua, engines quitting, constant construction, and several things just not being ready. That being said, it was still a great cruise and the staff were amazing. The Captain and Cruise Director handled everything well. My rule of thumb going forward though is to NEVER go on a cruise right after the dry dock. HAL gave us some compensation for a future cruise as the experience was not up to par. Good luck to the brave 2,000 plus people going on the Noordam right after the dry dock. We will be sailing on her in June of 2020.
  2. Is there a place on CC to find sample daily activities for the Alaska cruises? We will be on the Noordam next year and are interested in the entertainment. I didn't realize one of the cool entertainment venues will not be on the Noordam until after our cruise. We might look at switching to a different ship that covers the same itinerary if the dates will work.
  3. I appreciate the replies and think we will book this tour. It seems to be a lot of fun and I'm happy to see all of the positive feedback. I will miss the train going through the mountain and tunnel but the boat rides seems like a blast.
  4. My wife and I are taking the D5L cruise tour next June departing from Fairbanks. We are flying into Fairbanks a few days early to explore. I was looking at excursions today and across the one below. It is about $190pp which seams reasonable. I am looking for feedback to see if anyone on CC can recommend it or has any comments. We would be giving up the train ride to Seward if we book the excursion. Any feedback or suggestions are appreciated. "Upgrade your journey between Anchorage and Seward by adding on a visit to Kenai Fjords National Park—a majestic tidewater glacier on Alaska’s most popular wildlife and glacier cruise."
  5. We haven't cruised for five years and booked an Alaska cruise tour for next June. Our original promotion came with the Pinnacle Grill dinner and the signature beverage package. It was priced at $7,250 for the two of is in a balcony. The new promotion takes away the beverage package but is $600 less and provides $600 in OBC. This in in addition to the $500 OBC we get from a warehouse club (probably can't name). We also get a premium internet plan. I can't figure out if we can both use it at the same time or not. Either way, re-booking under the new promo was a great deal for us. I can't imagine we will drink more than $400 worth during the week.
  6. Looking at the above, I think we booked the wrong ship for Alaska. Luckily we can avoid the casino for the most part.
