Not sure what you are saying? Cant read the link, but the cruising with confidence is discussed in some detail in other threads.

sorry I typed the whole thing in, but it took out some stuff.. It's about RC updating their cancel policy and giving future full cruise credits for people sailing before 7/31/20, as long as you cancel at least 48 hours in advance. But it doesn't say anything about OBC if you don't cancel.  We are booked on the 5/10 Southern Caribbean cruise out of San Juan. I really don't want to cancel and our concern is also about our flights. Not sure if they will allow us to change without a fee.  Hoping and praying that this all calms down by then and that we get to go, and that there are other people on the ship..lol!!

I've listened to both and they have actually also said they expect it to be similar to other viruses.

That being said I expect it to be back next fall/winter ...

True dat, both contradict each other. I heard one doctor say get a 4 month supply of stuff, the next says they are afraid of hoarding.

I'm banking on my april 26 cruise out of texas to be ok. I dont plan on cancelling, but i see carnival and princess giving obc to stay booked. Hope rcl does that. Lots of fear out there.

I got a notice from a friend of mine sent me this link:

If you've not been keeping tabs on the number of recovered cases, it's encouraging. Certainly the number of new cases occurring each day (not to mention the global spread) is alarming, but over the past nine days the number of recovered - on a daily basis - consistently ranges between 2.6k to 3.4k. This is the most so far with the exception of 2/22 at 4k.

I've been watching Good Morning America with Dr. Jen and she says to expect to see the number of cases go up much more because they are testing more people now. This is a good thing.  They are hoping to get a handle on this by testing and taking necessary measures to stop the spread of this virius!!

Sounds like you have some information about how contagious this is or isn't. That's excellent news! because that one of the numbers I've been missing. How many sick, how many recovered, how many died, where it is spreading. All that freely available, I have yet to see a number saying it is only X% contagious. Here is what is says under the heading "How Easily The Virus Spreads" on the CDC website:

"How easily a virus spreads from person-to-person can vary. Some viruses are highly contagious (spread easily), like measles, while other viruses do not spread as easily. Another factor is whether the spread is sustained, spreading continually without stopping.

The virus that causes COVID-19 seems to be spreading easily and sustainably in the community (“community spread”) in some affected geographic areas."

Hmm, no number. Sounds more like a definition. So I'm assuming 100% mostly to make the math easier on me, I'd be happy to drop that to 70%, but let's use the new 3.4% mortality rate, that would be 184,903,198 dead world wide. Yikes, that's higher than my last number...

Now will everyone get, we don't know. I hope not, I hope Washington state will be the front line where we stop this thing. But it is out in the wild in Washington. Until they start doing some serious testing, we are going to keep seeing what I believe are artificially low numbers.

check out this link for some up to date, accurate information so that you can stop spreading these crazy numbers of yours

Mortality rate refers to people who die from the disease, and is limited to people with the disease.

In other words, if 100 people get Disease X, and it has a mortality rate of 100%, that doesn't mean the whole world dies, it means 100 people die.

See Half Hand's last post (last page).. he's at it again and clearly doesn't grasp the whole "mortality rate" thing:classic_laugh:

I just want to go on my cruise. I don't mind if the islands don't let us Dock, it is their right. As long as I get my fees and taxes back for those ports.

I would still enjoy myself sailing around the Caribbean in the sunshine.

You never know people might find they prefer it and cruise lines might start no port day cruises!

I kind of feel that way too. We are supposed to sail out of PR on the Freedom on 5/10 with 6 island stops, no sea days.  I was so disappointed to see no sea days (there was originally 1), but if we weren't able to stop at all of the ports, I'd be fine with that.

apparently the warmer it gets the less chance the virus has to survive. I trust the cruise line (Celebrity) to closely monitor the situation and will let passengers know well in advance if anything needs to be cancel or not . The last thing they want is a ship with the virus on board.

this is my feeling too.. Hopefully once Winter is over, this thing will be eradicated!!

Good morning to you pmck!  I agree totally and, yes, admit to a certain degree of apprehension. Given that there appears to be no evidence of containment yet to prevent an increasingly pendemic situation, it is a scary and somewhat unpredictable event. If I didn't have cruises booked already, I probably wouldn't add any additional right now. I can surely foresee longer boarding / screening times. Best thing to do is to keep a lookout for any cases that might appear down that way - so far I don't see anything in the Caribbean area other than the one case in the Dominican Republic. I like this site to keep track of it .  As you said, you still have a good amount of time to go yet - much can happen (either way, of course) relative to new cases, level of containment, status of potential vaccine development and dispersal, etc. Look forward to your cruise, but with an eye towards taking special precautions - a few days' worth of extra meds, sanitizing supplies, etc. We're 'all in the same boat' so-to-speak, (no pun intended...) but would really hate to wind up in a quarantined or otherwise significantly delayed scenario. We're planning on packing a few extra books.

You know the saying that says something about not worrying about things that you can't change?  Well, this is one of those I guess. Although another poster just said there are some cases turning up in the Caribbean (French side of St. Maarten and possibly Barbados) We will just have to wait to see. The decision may not be ours to make.  Fingers crossed, we are so looking forward to this cruise!!

  9. Good Morning,

My family and I are booked for a May, 2020 cruise out of Puerto Rico. Every day more and more stories are on the news about the Corona Virus.

I'm trying not to over react, but it is a little scary.  What do you think?  I'm thinking that maybe the screening process getting on the ship will be more comprehensive.

My husband thinks that we won't have any issues, but we still have to get through 69 days and who knows what can happen in that time..:classic_wacko:

Our May sailing is listed as being covered by the app but when you click on the sailing, it says details are being loaded and check back later.

yes, but before today it said it was currently unavailable, so that's progress right?

The best way to see about an upgrade is to do a fake booking on Royals site.  If you see a cabin in a higher category than yours at or close to the price that you originally paid for your cabin then you can upgrade by paying the difference in price.

yeah, I'm not going to lay out any more money. If they propose an upgrade for the price I paid, and we like it..we'll take it.

You are last final payment.  Your only hope is for an upgrade.  It could drop more but it could go up. If you can upgrade at a price you like then do it.

yes, she said they could upgrade our spacious room balcony to mid ship, instead of more "aft" where we are.  I'd really like to see a 2 bedroom balcony if possible, since we are traveling with our daughter.  I did call again..we shall see!!

  13. What has been your experience with how RC handles price drops?  So far our May, 2020 FOS cruise has dropped over $600 since we booked it about a month ago. My TA said that I was going to get some cash back since the first reduction was more than 90 days out.  Today, when my TA called, she said that they may upgrade our room.  My question, do I need to call while the price is down now? Or should I wait to see if it continues to drop?  My concern is that if it goes back up, we won't see any upgrade.

    Thanks in advance!!

We chose to sit tight while RCI typed up their messaging and got it all approved by the team that handles these things. We had lunch near the port and received the hotel reimbursement email notice. Only at that time did we book our hotel. Sitting in the room now. It's not what we wanted to do, but with a little patience and optimism, we made it through and are hopeful things stay the same for tomorrow's departure.

better off not sailing tonight anyway, with 15' seas predicted and wicked winds... !!

We just returned to Queens after a wasted 2 1/2 hour drive to/from Bayonne.

To answer your specific question, nothing was said at the pier about hotels.  Nothing on the sheet that was handed to everyone.  After we got home, we got a new email that RCCL was reimbursing people up to $200 for a hotel.  Well that's nice.  Why didn't they say this at the pier?

In addition, we never received notice that the cruise was cancelled for a day until we got to the pier after committing time, tolls and gas.  I'm sure RCCL knew this would happen much earlier.  Why no communication?

And now, no certainty about tomorrow.

from reading previous messages, it looks like rooms were offered if you flew into NYC. $200

I’m hoping that the reason they are not allowing anyone to drop off bags and enter terminal is because they are doing a sanitization of the terminal.  🤞🏻🤞🏻Can’t do that until everyone from previous cruise is out of there.  The email received last night said they were going to sanitize ship AND terminal

just heard from my friend that was supposed to board that it's delayed till tomorrow!
