  1. On Celebrity you pay at the time you book the excursion. If you cancel the excursion prior to the cruise (I think the cutoff is three or four days prior) your credit card is refunded. Once you are on the ship, I believe that they will spell out when excursions can be cancelled, something like 24 hours in advance as I recall. You would then get the refund put onto your SeaPass account.

  2. This is the right board. It is a land tour safari, followed by transportation to the Med, and the cruise. It has been listed in several places on the web. Celebrity trying something new, innovative, and very expensive. And since it is the first time it has been offered, I'm not surprised that they have not formulated all the "what if" policies yet.

Here is a link, which may or may not work

  3. Both. It is more efficient to do e-mail on your own device. The connection times are slow, and you may find Facebook frustrating to access. The connections are approximately dial-up speed, not high speed.

  4. the website is completely messed up right now and Celebrity tells us that they are working on it. Come back to Cruise Critic when you have questions -- most of us can help fill in the gaps when the website fails you. We cruise Celebrity because the on-board experience is so good, and try to overlook the IT problems, ever hopeful that they will fix them as promised.

I haven't been on any Top Chef cruises, but I did two of the Bon Appetit cruises when they were offered. The activities were not published ahead of time, and then we didn't even know who the chef would be until we boarded. The cruises were a lot of fun, and I was sorry that the partnership was not renewed.

  5. Kinda sorta, both Celebrity and Royal Caribbean International are owned by the parent company Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd.

    From Wikipedia

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is a Norwegian / American global cruise company incorporated in Liberia and based in Miami, Florida. It is the world's second-largest cruise line operator, after Carnival Corporation & plc. As of March 2009, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. fully owns five cruise lines: Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Pullmantur Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises and CDF Croisières de France, plus has a 50% stake in TUI Cruises.[2][3] Previously Royal Caribbean Cruises also owned 50% of Island Cruises, but this was sold to TUI Travel PLC in October 2008.[4]

  6. Yes, they are part owners of several European cruise lines. I think they also own a charter aircraft company, too.

  7. Reports are that there are plans to "load" all the Captain's Club benefits onto the SeaPass cards, but Celebrity doesn't have the technology yet. It is started, however, because on at least some ships, the Internet coupons have been eliminated and that information is already on the passenger SeaPass accounts.

  8. There are two levels of dress for dinner

    Smart casual and above

    Formal

The main dining room has formal nights, the specialty restaurants do not require formalwear, nor does Blu (the dining room for Aqua Class)

Shorts may not be worn to the dining room at dinner.

If you want to be extremely casual at dinner, there is the buffet.

  9. The entire entertainment department seems to be in transition. Whether or not you'll find karaoke is unpredictable. But you can try dropping a note to the Cruise Director immediately on boarding asking for it to be scheduled. If they know there is someone keen to do it, they are more likely to put it in the schedule.

  10. If you change now, you will pay to upgrade, but you will know that you have the room you want. Keep watching the price and if, before final payment, it should go down, you should be able to get the lower price. After final payment no. But if you wait until after final payment to make the change, as noted, you might that all of the suites are sold out.

  11. This is generally true. When you want to eat as late as possible, you may run into the kitchen beginning to shut down. The waiters will inform you if you are cutting it too close to closing, and the next night, you could come in five or ten minutes earlier just to be safe.
