This thread will cover my two-week B2B aboard the Nieuw Statendam (NS) and provide answers to the recurring questions asked by CC members:  ships officers, ship condition, check-in procedures, Customs/Immigration, electrical outlets, cooking demos, beverage packages, smoking in the Casino, EXC, what's for dinner, new High Score, B2B in-transit procedures, extra charges for entrees, Specialty Restaurant menu changes, what's new, internet speed and multiple-device connections, gala attire, Club Orange, etc.  I will include my experiences and observations that may be useful to subsequent cruisers on the NS.  As is my norm, I will be scanning every menu and brochure that I encounter.

Feel free to post questions and I will do my best to find answers.

For Judy, who will be in the same stateroom in a later cruise, I will be emailing lots of photos.

My boarding tomorrow will be a test of the assigned-by-deck boarding process.

    More tomorrow.

Looking  forward to your reviews .  Taking an April Trans Atlantic  on this ship Thanks

  2. Received a call from Princess  this PM which Ì missed since  I was in a meeting . Exiting the meeting I quickly  called  Princess  back hoping it was the Upgrade  Fairy as we are cruising on Saturday . My hopes were crushed  when the Princess rep told that I was not Ocean Ready and explained what I needed to do to become Ocean Ready. I explained that after reading numerous  postings of fellow  cruisers frustrations  becoming Ocean Ready I was opting to have it done at embarkation .  The rep said that's fine and shifted into a sales pitch for Internet  packages  and specialty dining. Better  luck next I hope.

  3. After reading numerous  postings about the various  problems associated with setting  up  the Medallion , we chose not to frustrate ourselves  and show up at embarkation  with nothing  done    We were handed our Medallions and had our pictures  taken and boarded  No problems  aboard using it to open our cabin door.

Traffic on a workday will be bad.  Just to get to LAX will probably take an hour and a half.  Personally, with the long security lines and traffic, i would not book a flight before 11am.

I agree 100% maybe book a flight after 12 . We have used Super Shuttle  Excu Car and while it's more costly  than regular  ST it's worth itIMO

  5. Was on the Caribbean  Princess last Easter and it had a wonderful  nondenominational  Easter Sunday service which was organized  by the passengers .  We so enjoyed our next  door cabin neighbor practicing  the hymns he was going to sing for the service  on his balcony. Joe had a wonderful  voice .Hope you get to experience  Easter service on Princess .

My DH and I did this several years ago with HAL and I think it was definitely worth it.  For me the best part was the trip thru Denali.  We saw moose, bears and much more.  We started in Fairbanks, getting in a few days early and renting a car to explore.  The train rides from Fairbanks to Denali, then to Anchorage and then to Seward for the ship (the most scenic) were wonderful and relaxing.  The interior of the state is different from the Inside passage but beautiful in it's own way.  It is a little pricey but we put money away for several years so we could do it as my DH's retirement present.  I don't think you'll regret it if you go.

I agree  100%. The interior of Alaska is spectacular . Princess does an  excellent  job with its land paçkage.
