  1. I think I understand your question but at this late hour I could be wrong.

As I understand the law the. Booze sold must have been purchased from a Texas distributor. Thus taxes paid to Texas. Much of what RCCL buys and sells is from outside area avoiding paying any taxes to any state thus more profit to cruise line. As shareholder I agree with more profit.

The Texas law halos restricts say Saint Arnold from selling beer direct to the public in a retail model. That is good and bad since competing against current distribution system is double edge sword. At least it could be in neighborhood by brewer near downtown. There is push to change that law which could change other parts of the law that affect cruise lines for instance.

  2. One thought for those planning a night ahead of she cruise...if you are in just for night and arrive five or after likely easier to just stay by airport and shuttle over to port next day. Loads of hotels by both airports. I'd check price at a few and pick one from those with similar reasonable prices. The cheapest may not be as nice as the rest.

If you have more time the Kemah area has more to offer or if you like shopping stay in Galleria Area.

  3. Capt announced we would probably not get out tonight but as soon as he gets clearance we will go. If we leave around eight in the AM we will arrive on time. Looks like we will not rock to sleep tonight.

Web cams are nearly showing a whiteout condition. Triumph is still quite a ways out and shows clear black sky. I suppose it works best for Magic to be gone before they come in anyhow.

Hope not too many upset at smaller bar selection while in Texas waters.

  4. We went for a bike ride between 3:00-4:00. Not too long after we got home it started getting cloudy/foggy again.

Yeah. Not looking forward to next dog walk tonight. Oh well it will be better than next couple of days or trying to get aboard ship right now, or really in an hour or so. Just wish I could walk her in the gym at westside but alas she always wants to do some business on her walks.

  5. For the most part it's a winter problem...we should be fine in April.:)

I see that Galveston is already getting socked in again.:( That was a pretty narrow window when the fog lifted today, and I think RCI and Carnival were lucky to at least get the ships into port.

Yeah it could have been a far bigger nightmare. Even getting bad once again near bw8 and b Forrest, with real sun only out less than an hour.

  6. We did self carry off and it probably took at least 45 minutes for us and we were midways in the line.... guess upper tiers and airport transfers were next and then starting down the line with luggage numbers.

Just read online that they expected it to take 4 hours to clear the ship & that boarding for next cruise would not begin before 7pm at the earliest.

RCI is also crediting each cruiser $20 OBC for lunch expenses in Galveston.

The line to park at the Park & Cruise places were wrapped around blocks & blocks for those people were just sitting waiting for us to get out of our places so that they could start pulling in.

I feel really bad for them but it was a weather event & absolutely nothing that RCI could do to prevent it.

Some folks will need to eat dinner before boarding. Looking on web cam like under a mile visibility once again in port area.

  7. I know everyone has been patiently waiting for the pictures and I know I promised to start posting tonight... However due to our delayed departure we will not arrive home until 11:30pm & I have to work in the morning...

So, sorry to disappoint but it will be lunchtime or after work before I will be able to start uploading pictures.

Thanks for following along. You will get your picture fix very soon. :)

Safe drive home. How close to front of crowd disembarking were you?

  8. I'll admit.. I haven't paid much attention to Galveston, being that 4 ports are in driving distance from my home in Florida. But I love the Navigator... and followed her refurb... and now have been lurking on this thread....

My question... how often does Galveston have problems with fog? Is it just winter? Or is this just unusual?

It seems to hit in waves where one year it happens several times and next year not so bad. Mainly in Winter though.

  9. FYI...my DH is a Meteorologist, and he just looked at a few things. He said barring a miracle the ships will be spending the night docked in Galveston.

Yeah I think I'd have to agree it will be until tomorrow when the cold front comes thru, which is supposed to bring possible winters mix to LaGrange. One plan weather wise is to add wx sta at ranch tied into verizon wireless to beam me data every 15min so I can track weather right at ranch.

I suppose folks can enjoy Galveston this afternoon.

  10. Funny thing, Capt Claus is one of those flight catchers going to Miami. At least one other has a five something departure. Hope they make it. We've had a great four night adventure.

Thankfully we are in the same stateroom! :)

Ope he has a company jet at GLS waiting on him. A five pm flight is basically missed because I doubt docking at 415 anyone will be off and cleared CBP before 430 and even then it would be five or after before they would be at Hobby on a fast trot to the airport. If captain is on seven pm flight he may just make it.

  11. Been fogged in, I mean out of port 2 of my last 3 times in Galveston. once in January and once in March. Both times we disembarked 3pm-ish. Luckily, they re-opened the ship's bar and I got to spend more money.

Thankfully I've been on a run of good luck lately with no fog issues sailing from here...hopefully is stays that way next month. Sad to see so many get messed up with fog issues sailing this year.

  12. Pilot boat on the way but no promises about moving. At least two hours til docking.

At least it doesn't impact you much. Almost ended up on this cruise. Glad with the delay I am not caught up waiting yo figure out when to head down especially as mom would have come home from Ft worth early to sail today. Parents went to see sis new house.

I did see some oil field vessels heading out on web cam a short time ago so hopefully at dock by four or five.
