1. The ship is in the Houston Channel, and heading back to the port now

They are still another hour or two from the sea buoy. News reporting them at dock around midnight, so sea buoy should be around 8pm. Pics confirm they are still further out. Regardless until CBP arrives tomorrow nobody can get off the ship.

  2. There are plans and considerations for that!

guessing you mean plans on a new Pelican island bridge...that would be great! When we get our place either near Tiechman road, on Tiki, or by the airport, I want enough clearance to buzz down under the bridge (in a boat to be clear to all) to dock and eat by pier 21.

  3. A second ship that provides a mix of 4, 5, 10, 11 night cruises would be great. That would give something for everyone more or less.

With tons of cargo ships going to Panama Canal out of Houston/Galveston why not a cruise ship that goes down takes a spin in the lake and heads back. Do that once or twice a quarter mix in other unique voyages and attract more cruisers.

  4. Seems a 15-20 price per person would be more reasonable. Last week though fajitas for dd and me plus taco salad for dw with soft drinks for all ended up 55. Add 20 bucks more and an appetizer for each and sweet ending for each I suppose it prices out. But having paid for the cruise would expect a bit of a break over full at home dining room pricing.

  5. Weather is brutal in Houston/Galveston today but not supposed to be bad at all this weekend. Can't see beating the fog as a reason, even to Princess sycophants, but one must assume that there is a reason. Hope you all get a cruise credit or something.

Have to agree that beating the fog seems odd. I suppose get in Friday to avoid possible fog on Saturday is an option. I'd bet if they turn up in Houston too early there would be quite a few upset passengers unless the noro is as bad as the RCCL Explorer outbreak.

Three sea days, the dd would love it.

  6.
Hi Everyone!

Just booked a B2B on Vision Feb 8th and 15th out of Colon. Not many CCer's around for those two! Got great rates on a JS. Love those islands! Maybe we will be speaking fluent Spanish at the end of the two weeks like those guys on the Volkswagon commercial! LOL!!

Anybody been on this cruise and have any advice?
A few years ago tried it, different ship when we sailed but same cruise. We had fun and didn't pick up much Spanish. Found much of the crew happy yo chat with Americans.

Had two family suites to share among ten of us. Lots of fun for the kids and adults alike.

I'd not worry too much about it being an immersion cruise it's still a blast.
  7. The words cuchi-cuchi just came to my mind. Remember Charo?

Believe it or not, Charo is the featured act at one of the casinos out here. The picture of her looks just the same. She was either 16 during the Love Boat or she is a great looking science project.:eek::D

I saw her act on a cruise back a few years ago. She does a good show.

  8. The travel interruption part of the insurance should kick in I would think.

Perhaps if the insured incurs costs otherwise not covered by RCCL. The RCCL refund assuming a refund ends up the compensation would pay back the missed two nights. If the person then has to pay own hotel two nights before flight or pay a fee to change flights that is where, depending on terms of policy, a valid claim may be paid by the insurer. If RCCL pays air changes and folks get to fly home Wednesday night really no claims to file.

Whole situation stinks. Nobody wants to miss vacation for any reason but definitely to be sick.

  9. Right now the bargains seem to be in early April before school is out.

Are the horns still working? Those were the good ole days on Voyager.

Haven't inflated them. Maybe if a group wants to help with them in the Spring we could have a BBQ gathering of CC folks. As big as they are it takes several hands to set them up. If I could put them atop the barn, I figure I could have them spotted from a few miles away. Probably cause a crash on the highway from onlookers.

  10. :cool:Galveston Cruiser and others..........

Are you all planning to welcome Navigator back on the 4th? There are some on one of the cruise threads planning to show up so see her.

We will be on the road when she arrives to board on the 5th but who knows, we may get there in time to "cruise" by and wave hello. ;)

Wish I could be there during the week. Hopefully soon enough I can sail her to check out the modifications close up. Ideally on a week when school is in session so I can do more surfing assuming that NOTS is like Allure mostly kids surfing with few adults trying it.

  11. Viewing Galveston webcams and ship tracking there appears to be no signs of fog or delays for returning to Bayport Cruise Terminal. The CB is about to join a stream of traffic in the Houston Ship Channel through Galveston Bay.

We are having a major winter storm (for us) in Southeast Texas. Yesterday most schools and businesses in the area were closed due to ice and road conditions. Freeways were a mess overpasses and bridges covered with ice and closed. Many flights Friday morning cancelled. Things are back pretty much to normal with concern if any ice will be a problem first thing in the morning from water still around on the roads. It is going to be cold first thing in the morning around 29 and warming up to around 57 by 3 PM. Hope that none of this causes any problem for people traveling.

From your reports it appears you have enjoyed your cruise. Thanks for your detailed report. We will be going on the cruise in a few weeks.

Glad to know I was not the only one up watching the map at that hour. Actually I did go to bed about that time.

It is so nice outside today. No jacket required!!! Should be a perfect day for sailaway later today as well.

  12. I have never used a travel agent. Not many in my rural area, and I've just always booked everything myself. Please tell this newbie. How are travel agents paid? By the cruise line, hotel, or whatever, or you, the customer? I have read that most frequent cruisers use a TA and get lots of perks, etc., but who pays? Do most of you use local TA's or cruise specialist TA's in big cities or what? Not asking for names, just general info.

    Thanks.

Most of the vendors (cruise lines etc...) pay commission. Not all. Airlines for most travel do not pay any commission.

Perks come from various sources including out of the commission.

Some agents will have a set fee to handle bookings with variations of this often occurring. In some instances such as complex specialty vacations using many vendors that don't pay any commission it's the only way the agent makes any money. (Such as long excursions fishing and more into Alaska before/after a cruise or just on own.)

  13. Now, they pay full commission on even the free part........so I'm told by a very reliable source.:D

This should not create any passenger to think that they would get any of that back. Agencies are in the business to make money.........and help clients, or they would not exist.

    Rick

Sounds about right. How many people go to work every day to not make any money, or give it all back to customers to get the business?

Hope all is well in AZ. My herd is happy, especially with the recent rains!
