  1. I am trying to clarify....Are we only getting certificates in 100 and 500 increments? What happens to the points that do not add up to the 100 or 500 increments?

Yes, I would think that the certificates will be in 100 or 500 increments. JMHO.

As Monte said above, any points left over will be lost and will not be added to the World Points card.

  2. i have 480 points, i have 400 in charges outstanding when my bill arrived.i went ahead and paid my bill, and the extra 400 om my updated charges, i was never given credt for this amount, i called and they said it will be on next months points, so i feel they may try to screw us on points because it's when u statement ends date, not when u pay.i'll make because i have other charges too.hope we all stay together as group and fight them on this.

    larry

p.s what credit card are u switching too? i/m undecided

Larry, I wouldn't jump to that conclusion quite yet. It's always been that our points are not shown to us until the statement closisng date.

As far as which cc we'll use, we're undecided too. We've gotten the Amex Cash card and the Cap. one card. I'm still waiting to here exactly what the new card is going to offer.

  3. I went over the 250 allowed for my 12/19 billing cycle and did not get more then the 250 points allowed.

I see now where my post didn't make sense. Of course that makes sense that now you will start to accumulate new points from the purchases starting the 20th to the 31st. If you need more points to get a certificate, are you going to attempt to accumulate them with purchases from the 20th to the 31st?

My statement date is at the end of the month, so the point is moot for me, but I'm curious how many of you trust that points can still be attained AFTER your Dec. statement date.

  4. And let's not forget (as been stated in this thread several times) that in the original Terms and Conditions booklet we received with our NCL credit card, it states that they have to give us 3 months before the card benefits completely end. Oct. 1st to Dec. 31st is the 3 months required. Now, the question remains, will you be able to go beyond the 250 pts. allowed a month. I think "yes you will," but I guess we'll find out soon enough.

  5. Sorry if I mislead anyone. I was just going by what our PCC told me before our November cruise on the Star.

I can't tell you how many people I said the same information to. I guess it makes sense though, that you'd get a refund on actual OBC paid with cash.

  6. Just keep in mind, the OBC's you purchase before the cruise are non-refundable. If you don't use them all, you lose 'em.

OD, That is not true anymore. There was a thread recently where staff from NCL said you do get your credit back. It goes back on the credit card you used. This is OBC that has been paid, not "promotional" OBC which is not refunded or carried over to the next cruise.

    Here's the thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=880168&highlight=

  7. Does anyone know if you can pay more than your final pmt due on the NCL site? For instance, if we owe $300 on our next cruise, can we pay $1,000 and have credit on our acct. when we board to pay for excursions and cocktails? I am thinking that might be the best way to get our last charge for points for our 2nd cert. :) Thanks!

I'm not sure if they'll except overpayment, but if not, go to the ncl website and under bon voyage gifts, you can print out a page to fill out for OBC. You'll get the additional 1% if you use your NCL mastercard.

Just a note: The website states that you can only buy a certain amount of OBC, but the truth is, people often send in thousands of dollars so that their cruises are completely paid for before they set sail, so I know it's done.

  8. Do you have to book directly through NCL to get the higher points per dollar spent or can it be done through any online TA?

I assume you're asking about the Compass program. Yes, you can use a TA to get the 4%, just make sure they know they have to give NCL the card number so that NCL makes the charge, not your TA.

  9. Does anyone know if travel through the new program must be booked through a particular agency or will they just mail us a certificate which we can mail in directly to NCL and have applied again our booking, regardless of who made the reservation?

I think I read that you have to make the reservation through world points.

  10. The information on the website was posted approximately a week after the letter was sent out which was Oct. 1st. It is the most up-to-date information. If you're really concerned that NCL may change their mind, copy and paste the website info. to a word document, and then email that document to yourself so that there's a date stamp.

  11. I've reading the letter I received last week from NCL/BOA, introducing the new and improved WorldPoints. I'm more than a little confused over the following statement:

Transactions made after your December 2008 statement closing date will not earn points towards the Compass Rewards program. You will receive Compass Reward Certificate(s) for your remaining points balance by January 31, 2009.

If this is the case, I'm SOL!!! I was planning on earning the last 30 points for our final 1500 points this month! Or, since our closing date is the 10th of the month, and we just received the November statement, does it mean the statement we receive in January for the December activity will still earn the Compass Rewards?

OD.. I think that letter is probably information written before they made changes on NCL's website which states that you'll earn points till dec. 31 regardless of when your statement date is.

    Here's that link: http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPages.html?pageId=CompassRewardsFAQ#NeedToGetCert

  12. The Chase Freedom card gives 1% cash back, plus an additional 2% on the amount spent in your top 3 spending categories each month, up to $12 a month. If most of your spending is under these categories each month it might be worth looking into.

Lumofny, what does "up to $12 month" mean? Is that the limit of how much you can earn on the 2% categories?

  13. Nope' date=' that would be like getting credit for a price drop after final payment for your cruise.

Oh, sorry that is a different thread.

    PE[/quote']

LOL PE.. it just gets worser and worser. (BTW, I know that's not a word)

  14. Does anybody know if BofA would let to combine points from two cards? One card is mine onother is my wife's but I am an authorized user on her.

As a rule, they will not combine the points. I guess exceptions are made so a call to ask would be worth it.

  15. I just had a credit card cancelled yesterday for 24 months nonuse, too! That's the first time this ever happened to me---maybe something with credit card companies trying to reduce how much they could potentially go into debt? Do you think my credit score will be negatively impacted even though the company closed it?

If it was the credit card with your highest limit, then it could "perhaps" affect your credit score.. But I doubt it. Hopefully the big 3 credit companies are taking into account that WE are not the ones closing the accounts!

  16. Leasve it open with a zero balance...when you go to purchase another home it will reflect well on your credit report (score) because your amount of "available" credit is higher and your debt/credit ratio looks better. If you pay all balances off every month then perhaps it won't affect the score because then it's a "zero/debt to "whatever credit available balance" anyway....but me. I'd keep it open JMHO...

Good advice. Just to give a heads up to you credit card jugglers (like me.) I had a Chase credit card that had a credit limit of $19,500 but I haven't used it in 2 years. They cancelled it on me without a notice stating that since it hadn't been used in so long, they decided to close the account. That was my highest limit, which is a card you should keep open. Moral to this story, charge something if you want to keep your card open. I knew that advice, but didn't heed it.

Banks are closing cards left and right.

  17. If I have 300 points on the current NCL point system how will they credit that? By $100?

I hope I understand what you're asking, but in your case of 300 points, you'd get 3 $100 upgrade certificates. 200 more points and you'd get a $500 cruise certificate.

  18. I ordered on the 16 and on the 27th I got an email that they had been shipped. Those brown boxes on the front porch are going to look funny. What usually comes in plain brown wrapper? ;)

    John

LOL.. reminds me of the Steve Martin SNL skit he did on a "type" of beauty cream that comes in a brown paper package.. It's marked, "Not _____ Cream"

Some of you will know the rest.

  19. Sexy mature women, with full body tan? Howd I miss that? I haven't seen any pictures on this site reflecting that comment?

I'm not sure, but I'd be willing to bet that Salty's comment was meant for the "I'm almost afraid to ask" thread regarding the freestyle deck. ;)

  20. a lot of people blame all this permissiveness on all the sex on television.

Well i just want to say i am totally against sex on televison.

The person on the bottom always gets jabbed in the lower back with the corner of the cable box.

Now i know why people say they are "uncomfortable' with it.

    lmfao!

  21. "You will continue to earn Compass Rewards points for eligible transactions with your current credit card through December 31, 2008."

"What if my billing cycle ends mid-month?

You will continue accruing Compass Rewards points through December 31, 2008, regardless of when your December billing cycle ends."

    http://www.ncl.com/nclweb/cruiser/cmsPages.html?pageId=CompassRewardsFAQ#MidMonth

Okay.......... I am very confused, because NCL has had this posted for at least a month now. If this is not correct, then I suggest we all print it out and demand a free cruse! Who told you that you would not earn any Comass Points after your December cutoff date? When I called BOA several weeks ago, they assured me that Compass Points would be earned through December 31 and that the last "month" or portion of the month, the max points would not be prorated. WAHT IS GOING ON!

My first post didn't seem to make it here, so forgive me if it's a double.

c breeze ~ What you are saying is correct. NCL/BoA are required to allow 3 months after the notification of the end of the program. (Most) people were notified Oct. 1st. This information can be found in the "terms and agreements" that you received with your card. Also, as you've pointed out, it's WRITTEN at NCL's website. Just ignore the misinformed statements. ;)

  22. That's a quetion that comes up on the "Newlywed Not So Newlywed" game that they do on every ship.

We were at one when the answer was "On the balcony of a cruise ship." The CD who was hosting the event then reminded the gal that she had said this was thier first cruise.

    Charlie

    LOL Charlie! BUSTED!
