  1. Hi,

My experience has been on either the Imagination/Inspiration (both sister ships, but don't remember the exact ship) anyway, we were on the Main Deck all the way forward in a Porthole Cabin. I loved the porthole view that was offered for the Inside price.

The drawback was that LOUD banging of metal against the ship....Whatever was officially going on ....that's what we heard. I turned up the a.c., it's on the ceiling, and it did help in noise reduction. I'd suggest bringing your own fan and putting the setting on High! Or a white noise machine.

The room itself was fine, and those ships are not very big, so really wasn't a long walk IMHO to get around.

    Have Fun!

    Bobbi

It looks to me that the porthole cabins only have room for 2 people. I've experienced a LOUD banging before on a ship, and my cabin was on deck 4 forward and a balcony room (Holland America's Zuiderdam). It didn't bother me (as I enjoy noise) but my husband couldn't get a good night's sleep on the 10 day cruise!

  2. Stay away from Cabin 299 on Fantasy-class ships!

Bring earplugs or turn the music up on the TV.

Thanks for the advice. That post was 7 years ago & maybe they've corrected the problem during renovations. I love noise and live next to an interstate and would probably go crazy if I have a quiet room--Ok, so I'm a little different. My two girlfriends probably wouldn't appreciate that as much as I would though.

  3. Well, booked earlier today and the cheery & fun Carnival rep told me this was a great cabin but I'm not 100% convinced. I've found no recent reviews on this type of cabin (cabin number ending in 299 across the entire Carnival Fantasy class fleet). This is a free cruise for 2 (through playing the MyVegas slots app, taxes & port charges extra & we paid a little extra for a 3rd person) I'm sure it'll be okay. We like to travel cheap and we are experienced cruisers that really don't spend much time in the cabin. As of now, the Carnival website doesn't show any other 4B cabins to switch to, we don't want to pay extra money for something better, and not desperate enough to ask for a downgrade. Our trip isn't until January so it's possible to get a cabin change prior to departure. If not, we won't have high expectations. Just looking for reviews or opinions.

  4. Is there a quick way to see Mariner Society pricing on HAL's website? Two days ago I saw an attractive [Mariner Society] price for an April 2018 cruise by accident. I found a cruise/itinerary I liked. Actually the price was ok (especially being 13 months out) and I wanted to see cabin availability. I put my Mariner Society Number in and it showed the regular interior price, the diagram of the ship (aft, mid, forward). Then I click on stateroom type where all the options show up (interior, oceanview, verandah, suite) and to my surprise the special pricing came up. I do get occasional emails and lots of snail mail flyers from HAL but I didn't know about any discounts on the cruise/itinerary I found. I research cruises looking at other websites and the special pricing did come up on one site, but even through that I can't just see an entire list of Mariner Society discounted cruises there either.

  5. We'll be disembarking HAL's Nieuw Amsterdam on October 5. Our flight choices are 11:19 or 2:15. I know times can change during the next 7 months. We're going to take our chances and book the 11:19. Slight concern that two ships will be in port that day (us & Disney Wonder)

Hope people here continue to report their experiences.

  6. First time scanning. Due to CC's size limitations I had to resize, compress, etc. First time for that too! Sorry they are a little fuzzy--they are readable!

Due to remnants of Hurricane Matthew we encountered a delay arriving into Boston so a revised schedule was printed up. Enjoy the Log of the Cruise too!

  7. I had a great time on Enchantment, but $3.84 for a CAN of Coca-Cola---OUCH!!!! I'm not a fan of fountain pop so didn't want to buy the $8/day package. The the mini bar card in my cabin said that a six pack would cost $12 +15% gratuity, which is pretty decent for a cruise ship; however, my oceanview cabin did not have a fridge. Yes, I could have had the room steward bring me ice. I didn't do enough research on the cruise to find out if I could have brought a 12 pack onboard. I'm gold C&A member so I would have been able to take advantage of a 2 for 1 coke once. Other cruise lines charge much less for cans of pop. A few months ago Princess sold cans for $2.25 +gratuity. Sorry for the vent, but thought to inform others of the price.

  8. We got off Enchantment yesterday. On our 2nd or 3rd night of the cruise there was a table decorated in the main dining room with balloons and a sign that read, "Celebrating 101 Years." A few minutes into dinner, an elderly couple walked in and many guests applauded them. We weren't sure which person was the honoree, but during the 9 pm show it was announced it was the gentleman with his wife of 70 years! Amazing! Made all of us onboard smile.

  9. Does anybody know the current onboard price for basic (no streaming) internet for one day? In my cruise planner it says, VOOM SURF + STREAM VOYAGE PACKAGE - 1 DEVICE for $11.99/day which is 30% off onboard. I don't need to spend $47.96 (11.99 x 4 night cruise) as I only need basic internet to check my emails for the two days while in the Bahamas as I can use my smartphone data plan for the other days.

  10. Will be sailing Enchantment on January 16. We need to check out of our Miami hotel at 11 and plan on catching Uber to the port. We'd rather be at the port than sit the hotel lobby. What kind of waiting area is there at the port--indoors, lots of seats, or ??? The Empress of the Seas will also join us in port. Does that usually mean fewer shore side staff or anything? We're only gold members of C&A so we won't expect priority boarding. Are cabins ready as soon as boarding takes place or later in the day?

  11. My first ever cruise was March 2, 2008 on the Caribbean Princess! It was an Eastern Carib itinerary. Under 50 kids 17 & under onboard & I don't think there were huge groups of college aged individuals. I was amazed with the number of pools on board & weren't crowded.

How can I remember all this? I Never forget a first cruise, seems like yesterday!

  12. I booked directly with Royal, I'm on a 4 night cruise, and did find on their website:

Final payment of the balance must be received at Royal Caribbean's offices at least 60 days prior to the sailing date for 3, 4, or 5-night cruise vacations and 75 days prior to the sailing date for 7-night or longer cruise vacations.

Not sure why the November 17 wasn't on the original booking confirmation but on the one I have now. This makes me happy.

  13. A small group of us (two rooms) booked back in May for January 16. Our booking confirmation said final payment date was November 1 (or maybe it said 2nd). On Monday, we made some changes (swapped roommates & upgraded one cabin from inside to guar OV). Our new paperwork for both rooms says final payment is November 17. Is this the new norm? I would like the extra time to make final payment in case we want to move our other room from inside to outside, or in case there's a price drop, etc. but would hate it if they end up cancelling our reservation on November 2.

  14. Currently booked in an inside cabin and both of us have a CPAP machine, so will need 2 110v plug ins. Has this happened to anybody before? Usually the 110v outlet in is near the desk, but where will the 2nd go?

I was just off a Princess ship with a non-CPAP user. Room Steward said that if we needed another outlet the 220 outlet that the bedside lamp was using could be used and that I would have to provide my own adapter. Just wondering if that would probably be the case on Enchantment.

  15. We just got off the Regal yesterday. We had an inside category, mid-ship. It was perfect as we had only one sea day (when would there have been time to spend on the balcony?). Weather was in the 70s a couple of days, majority 50s or 60s. I knew ahead of time what the temps would be then--when you are researching cruises on the Princess website, click on the Cruise Details button then there's a tab that mentions the weather. We booked the cruise 14 months out as we had received a special casino offer brochure in the mail and saved 40 percent off the going rate.

Prior to our first cruise cruise, people told us that we must have a balcony. We did, and we hardly used it. What a waste!!!!

2nd cruise we travel with in-laws. Since they booked a balcony, so did we (why??? Again, hardly in the cabin). Again, What a waste!!

3rd cruise, Panama Canal. I wanted to get an inside room, especially as insides were about 1/3 the cost of balconies. Again everyone was telling us--balcony a must! Booked a guaranteed balcony & turned out our balcony cabin was about 3 doors down from the bow which they opened up during the PC transit. Did we use our balcony--no!!!! Waste Waste Waste.

Fourth cruise wanted an inside but the promo was get an oceanview for the price of an inside.

Fifth cruise, got a balcony, last minute deal. I think insides were sold out!

Sixth cruise, introduced a friend to cruising. Originally we booked an oceanview after hearing me say balconies are a waste and she thought she might feel a little claustrophobic in an inside. Due to price drops we got the balcony for about $20 per person more than the oceanview (it was a 4 night cruise) so had to go for it!

Seventh cruise---Ahhhhhh, our first inside and LOVED IT!!!!

Eighth cruise--booked an inside way in advance, but due to price drops & upsell offer we got a vista suite for $2 less than the inside we originally booked! Crazy, huh?

Ninth cruise booked an inside 14 months in advance. PERFECT!!!

Tenth cruise will be in January. A group of five ladies--myself, 3 first timers, and the now 2nd timer (one who I introduced to cruising during my cruise #6). Not buying the first timer needing a balcony story and even the 2nd time cruiser doesn't think we need a balcony unless there's a price drop. Booked an inside. It's a 4 nighter without sea days. Will see what happens.
