  1. For me boring would be going on the same ship over and over. I'd rather sail on different classes of ships to get the different experiences.

At home sometimes I like to go to the mall and sometimes to little shops on the street...

i loved the Vision when we sailed her and I loved the Allure.

If Vision came back to Los Angeles for her old Mexican Riviera run I would book it immediately.

  2. If Captain Johnny is referring to the (almost) 2 years that he was on Mariner out of LA, the Great Recession had an adverse effect on California during that time, more so than on the rest of the country. Since Royal has not tested the waters in the 5 years since they left, other than on Jewel's most recent California itineraries, there is no other way to be sure what the onboard revenue would be, other than to bring a ship out to Los Angeles.

    A wonderful fact to consider!

  3. Well, I was just in Mexico on a 7 night Princess cruise. It was great. I don't fear Mexico. Their economy and standard of living are improving rapidly and in many ways they are happier than we here in the States.

We recently booked another 3-nighter on Princess to Baja.

As reticent as I am, I have even considered trying Carnival. Or perhaps NCL.

These are all cruises I would prefer to take with Royal Caribbean but, alas, they have no offer.

** Also, as an aside, the current RCCL practice of disallowing the OBC for Crown and Anchor members is disappointing, making C&A benefits worthless -- another tip towards a new carrier **

  4. Funny, I started a thread on this topic over four years ago and the responses were almost exactly the same. RCCL's explanations haven't changed either.

RCCL has decided to place more of its ships in Asian waters and now Caribbean, Hawaiian and Alaskan offerings are being scaled way back.

Essentially it seems RCCL don't like American money much any more.

As for California cruises, we have Princess, Carnival, Norwegian and some Holland America. I recently sailed Princess and though it isn't RCL, it was great and we will go again.

Personally I'm getting a little sick and tired of Royal Caribbean's games. I love the line but their new ships are too gimmicky (Harmony/Anthem) and the pricing with the endless fake BOGOHO sales is confusing.

So, yes I love RCCL but Princess will be getting more of my money now.

  5. I recently booked an Allure cruise for November 2016 and it applied my diamond C&A discount but not the OBC.

The OBC was $300 and the C&A discount was $225.

So it actually pays to not be a C&A member.

If I call now they will reprice and it will be slightly worse. So I will leave it alone. I'm a long way out and there might be a better price/promotion later in the year.

  6. I just returned this morning from a 12 day western Caribbean on the Anthem.the ship is beautiful...the embarkation was quick and stress free...however it seems as if Royal's new concept of cruising on Anthem really falls flat

Hi Contessa1, I tried to send you a message but that option must be turned off.

Don't let all the Negative Nancys get to you.

Either way, perhaps your second cruise on the Anthem of the Seas will be much better and you will have a great time!

  7. I reached Diamond level on RCL eight years ago but their Diamond

Plus and Pinnacle levels are too far out there for reason.

So we just completed our second Princess cruise and now I have found out we can take one, two and three night cruises on Princess and catapult to Elite level in no time. Maybe I can make Elite by mid 2017?

I think I'll book inside cabins. That might ruffle some feathers :D

  8. ... my memory is that RCI was really good about making individual adjustments to fix these issues. I think that kind of adjustment is what we are talking about here.

Yes. I was not suggesting anyone should get unearned credit but their credits could have been calculated short somewhere along the line.

  9. Yeah, it was in 2007 and I think I had the days wrong. We figured it was because back then a 12+ day cruise got two credits with one extra for the suite.

Since they have changed to days the suite credit is now double for all the days

Royal Caribbean was very kind to review her history and make the adjustment.

My point being that the OP might have a similar situation that, after evaluation, could result in that extra 'day'.

  10. Royal did not use "days" for the conversion in Jan 2011. They only used cruise credits.

    Of course I am aware.

Using the calculator, my sister got:

    7 day cruise = 1 pt

    7 day cruise = 1 pt

    15 night suite = 3 pts.

    Conversion gave her (5*7) + 3 for 38 days.

After recalc by representative on the phone she got 7+7+30 for 44 days...

  11. Well, Royal Caribbean switched from cruise-credits to days-sailed a while back.

I and others I know observed a loss of several days from the conversion of earlier cruise-credits to days.

For example, a 15 night Hawaii cruise in a suite got us three credits (21 nights) in the old method but after a call, it was recalculated to 30 nights in the new way.

So is there a possibility that your total days might be a candidate for recalculation?

It could be worth a call...
