  1. Hello from Ottawa, Canada, Chris!:D I'm just off my second NCL cruise on Pearl and agree with a lot of the other posters. I can't comment on smoke in the casino since I never stopped once to play, just passed through. Generally enjoyed the food in both specialty and MDR. Service in the MDR was slow some evenings and better others, but we always made the 9:30 shows, so it was all good.:) Before I would have said I prefer set dining times, now I've completely changed my mind and really appreciate the opportunity to eat where and when I like. I found the entertainment far better than Carnival's, although there is also no house band for the main shows. If you are lucky to be on a ship with the "Oh What a Night" tribute, run, don't walk to see it. It was amazing!

Hope you have fun on your cruise.

  2. Hi, Heather, it has been fun chatting with you. You will have a blast cruising with a newbie, who will be so wowed by everything and appreciative of your experienced-but-not-controlling guidance! :p Re: Moderno, just remember that our take on it was just that; others have reported being disappointed--dining is so subjective! You may want to read a few more reviews to see if other comments resonate with you more than what I've said. I will say Moderno didn't quite rise to the level of the chain Fogo de Chao; but they delivered an excellent meal, and we really appreciated the attentive service, which is very important factor in our overall takeaway. So...in the context of our other specialty dining experiences aboard Pearl, yes, we felt Moderno was the best. :)

Re: the ports, without knowing what you did last time, past highlights for us include Dunn's River Falls in Ocho; Stingray City, self-drive to Rum Point and America's Cup (or maybe we did that in Sint Maarten?!) in the Caymans; and snorkeling (at Chankanaab or by boat trip) or self-drive to "the wild side" of the island in Coz.

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions. Happy trails and cruises!

Oh, I know how subjective dining can be; we dined at the Cucina del Capitano on Carnival Breeze for supper in July and every review I read raved about the service and the food. For us it was a disappointing experience for a pay extra venue. We found the service decidedly lacking and food portions too big and overall, no "wow" factor. We've always been fans of Carnival's steakhouses and expected the same quality and outstanding service we've usually had in this new for pay venue. I appreciate your take on Moderno since this was a recent cruise, and the same itinerary as mine.

My friend does want to snorkel, so I will suggest Chankanaab and she also wants to go to Hell and to see the turtles, while I'm hoping to get back to 7 Mile Beach (we may have done Royal Palms last time, too).

Thanks again, and Merry Christmas to you.

  3. Hi Artemis!:) Thanks so very much for the feedback on Moderno. I was hoping it would be a hit. My cruise is with a friend who's never cruised before and has expressed an interest in Moderno. I hoped she wouldn't be disappointed, so all looks good! Thanks also for the very helpful dining information. My family cruised Sky in July and we chose the specialty dining package, with the other night in Crossings. We're not going to do that this time, so it's helpful to hear about the different options and even the differences between the two main dining rooms, which I hadn't heard before. I like to dress up, so it looks like Summer Palace will be for us. Your port info. is useful, too. I've been to all these ports before, friend no, so I'm trying not to take over and plan too much.

Looking forward to whatever else you have to share. Thanks again.

  4. Funny, this party happened in Nassau this past July when Sky was docked next to Pearl! We were on Sky and from our balcony we could see the Pearl staff dancing and partying, accompanied by Sponge Bob and Patrick, with music blaring. A stilt walker and other staff came from Sky and the party continued! This was our first NCL cruise so we just thought this was typical.:)

  5. Hi Heather!

    Thank you!

We had a great time on the Epic, and I'm really glad we "mixed it up" a bit :) As I mentioned, I'd love to go to Bermuda on the Dawn. Our next CCL cruise will likely be on he Breeze in 2015, so anxiously waiting for those dates to be released :)

My mother is doing very well, and is pretty much back to her old self. Thank you for asking :)

Merry Christmas to you and yours...and go Habs, go!

I think you'd really like Breeze. The décor is so different from other Carnival ships and we never noticed crowds at all. We did the 6-day and that just wasn't enough to see and do everything. Guess we'll have to sail again some day. Bermuda also sounds like fun.

Yeah, yeah, it's tough to be a Sens' fan these days!:rolleyes:

  6. I really enjoyed your review, Sharon. Thanks for sharing. I'd say we're Carnival peeps, too, but we tried Sky in July and had a great cruise! We tend to go with the flow, too. I'm heading out on Pearl in Jan. for a girls' cruise and am looking forward to getting away from the cold for a bit. Glad to hear your mother is doing well. Merry Christmas to you!:)

  7. I absolutely love Disney cruise line. We have been 4 times now 3 on the Wonder and once on The Dream. They really know how to make a cruise enjoyable and the shows are truly incredible

I agree! A 4-night Disney Wonder cruise was our first and totally got us hooked on cruising!:) We had our boys with us who were 8 and 13 at the time, so I'll be interested in seeing an adult's point of view from you Gambee. Check out the adult areas; I know we enjoyed the nightlife. There's no casino of course, but I don't think that will bother you. Have fun and I'll be looking forward to your review!
