  1. Remember if you booked a Guarantee, putting do not move on your reservation is not a protection. As part of the gty booking, you have given Celebrity the right to assign any cabin within that category or above and also (the fact that most don't know or forget) change it at any time. Just an FYI.......

On our upcoming trip on the constellation, we booked a guaranteed cabin for the highest type of outside cabin and 1 week after making the reservation we were given a balcony.

Who knows, we could be changed again.

  2. At least on a cruise, I can get off at ports and see new locations, people, etc.

I'm with you on camping. Had to camp a couple days in Uganda when trekking up to sit with the gorillas and sleeping in a tent and outdoor facilities are not for me, but I'll suffer through it for the right experience.

May I suggest Crystal as a replacement for Celebrity. I also cruise with them and the service, inclusions, etc. are fantastic.

Crystal will cost you a considerable amount more than X.

You could get quite a few $10 or $15 burgers with the difference in the fares between them.

  3. I don't get it.....Celebrity gives us the drink package included with the cruise, but if we want a good burger or hot dog for that matter we have to pay extra for it. Makes no sense to me at all.

We board the Connie the end of October and maybe it will be changed back by then.

  4. Why is it so hard for some to understand that paying $10 for a hot dog onshore is NOT the same as paying $10 for one after a $2000 - $10000 cover charge?

I could not agree more. You can go to the supermarket in Philly or any where for that matter and pick up a package of 6-8 high quality black angus hot dogs for under $7. Then enjoy all of them with the rolls and the condiments for under $10 for the entire package. I don't have an issue going out to a specialty restaurant for lunch and paying $10 for a large gourmet fresh ground burger, but I have an issue paying $10 for a hot dog that comes in a package and is mass produced in a factory in Illinois or Iowa. Or for $10 for a burger that is ground meat that comes in a tube and then frozen. Plus the fact that I've paid for the food for the cruise already. If the burgers in Mast grill are that bad, then they should get rid of the all together and replace them with another included option.

  5. I don't understand why someone would pay for a burger etc for lunch at an extra fee restaurant when you can get lunch right around the corner on one deck lower for free. Maybe the higher ups at RCL think people will pay for it, but only time will tell. On the other hand they give you plenary of abc to use and you have to use it somewhere. We personally really like Guys Burgers on Carnival, but not enough to have to pay extra for them some or most days for lunch. The other good thing is that there might not be long lines for a burger when you have to pay for them.

  6. Here are my thoughts on Grand Turk, again these are MY thoughts and opinions, everyone has them. Don't flame for them....

You are on a cruise, going to exotic place and seeing foreign countries. Why people take a cruise and get off at the port and stay in a chain establishment that you can find in virtually any beach city in the United States, is beyond me. You are in a new place for crying out loud, get out and enjoy it! Go to Margaritaville when you're back home.

Rent a golf cart, drive around the island. Check out the locals way of life. See the wild animals roaming the streets. Look at the salt salinas which use to be the locals way of life before the cruise industry took over. Go to Her Majesty's Prison and tour it. Check out the museums, go to the light house. Ride down to Governor's Beach, stop at Jack's Shack for lunch. Enjoy the island while you're there. You can't go there every day without going on a cruise. You can always go to a Margaritaville or a pool. Just my 2 cents.

    Amen

  7. In one word........MONEY.

The cruise line makes so much money selling excursions at stops that they can't make up for it with a stop like a private island with little or a few excursions. I know that they own the island and sell drinks there, but they also sell drinks on board during a sea day, so there's no advantage to stopping for them. So if the weather is a little iffy, then they would rather keep you on board in lieu than chancing getting 3000+ people off and back on. (I know that they are building a pier).

Also, you can't forget that the cruise lines have a LARGE stake in a lot of the shops in these ports that sell jewelry, linens, t-shirts, etc. A lot of the recommended stores are partially owned by the cruise line or if not owned by the line, they get a large commission when they sell things to the cruise ship passengers.

  8. My family was on the Reflection a few years ago when it was a brand new ship during Thanksgiving week.

The lunch buffet had turkey and all the trimmings along side their regular buffet. And then at dinner in the MDR they has a turkey dinner along with the regular menu. I believe that not many people ate the turkey that day because they had it repeated the following day again at lunch in the buffet.

I know that thanksgiving is an American holiday and with all the nationalities aboard the ships that its not that big a deal.

I think we were in port that day anyway.

The absolute best part of thanksgiving on board was not having to deal with all the holiday family drama associated with cooking/cleaning/hosting/arguing around dinner.

We would do it again in a heartbeat.

  9. Tried both on the Silhouette. Probably won't pay extra for either. Tuscan was definitely nothing special, in fact it was the worst meal we had on our trip. We were sorry we gave up a night in Blu for a dinner that we paid extra for.

I feel the same way having been to Qsine on the Reflection.

It's a once and done kind of experience.

We are planning on MDR and then out to dinner in Israel.

X is taking away a choice in removing OL.

  10. We have had balconies on lido and they are extremely convenient. We like being on the same deck as the pool and never find it too noisy. Really easy to go to the buffet t grab something light to eat on our balcony for breakfast. Coffee and danish with fruit works great.

  11. it is so much easier booking outside of Carnival and so much cheaper. Yes, you will get back to the boat on time.

We never book excursions through Carnival. They just cost way too much for the same trips available at all ports. You can find very similar trips for a lot less money and they include more for less. These outside companies make money by servicing passengers from the ships and take it seriously to get you back to the ship with plenty of time to sail.

  12. Gardn198:

You have to weigh everything out together.

First, the fascination is a much smaller ship, therefore it can get into smaller ports.

St Lucia, Barbados, and Aruba are my favorite ports, but Grand Turk is also very nice and EASY to get off the ship. It's like a private island for the cruise ship with Margaritaville.

I know that the price of the Fascination has to be lower than the Vista.

Both ships include unlimited food. Both ships have carnival crew and entertainment.

However, the Vista is a much newer ship. The Fascination is a nice ship, just older.

It might be better to go on the Fascination and pay a lower price for the cruise and bite the bullet on the airfare. Try jet blue and southwest for lower fares.

Either way, you will have a great time.
