  1. The sofa bed is not very comfortable unless you get a mattress topper. Your butler will arrange it, but be sure to ask right away! It makes all the difference.

The reserved section in the theatre is for Owner's Suite, Deluxe Owner's Suite, and Garden Villa on the Star. Different ships have different arrangements.

    Have a wonderful cruise!

  2. Can anyone tell me the price of the lobster roll at ocean blu on the waterfront of breakaway? hd is dying to try it and would like to know the cost. Thanks in advance.

This is from an article I found:

"Takeout offerings include crab toast, crackling calamari and lobster rolls, at prices from $4.75 to $9.75."

So I am guessing the LR is 9.75. Enjoy!

  3. We are on the NCL Star to Mexico on March 30 for 1 week. As princess elite we are spoiled but none the less have questions & look forward to NCL.

How is the exercise room on the Star? open 24 hrs?

How is the entertainment? IE: comedians not the shows?

How is the Star for sunning? Are there chair hogs?

We generally eat late will that be good for us or do we still need reservations? We like Traditional late.

Can we board early if we want IE: noon like we do on Princess.

Will NCL accommodate general food requests in the dining room? IE: we always get artichoke hearts as a side on Princess to add to salads etc. If we like a particular waiter can we request him/her for all nights & a time?

Any other need to knows? We appreciate any & all comments.

We have a mini-suite---any benefits worth mentioning that come with that?

Exercise room is fine, treadmills, elliptical, bikes, weight machines and free weights. They are not open 24 hours. I think it is six to eleven.

Waiters rotate throughout the various restaurants on the ship, it's hard to pin one down.

I love the Star and I hope you enjoy your cruise!

  4. They offer upsells when they need your class of stateroom to fill the ship. If you are in a highly desirable category, then that's possible. But statistically unlikely.

We usually make the call ourselves about a week before sailing and have had good luck ($500 to upgrade from a mini to a forward Penthouse) and no luck and have been called ($400 to upgrade from an SJ to the DOS.)

  5. "Dirt-cheap because they were so copious, lobsters were routinely fed to prisoners, apprentices, slaves and children during the colonial era and beyond. In Massachusetts, some servants allegedly sought to avoid lobster-heavy diets by including stipulations in their contracts that they would only be served the shellfish twice a week."

One of the many fun facts on A Taste of Lobster History!

  6. I've been reading how the chicken wings at O'Sheehans are not to be missed (have read this on multiple threads). Now, as someone that was born and raised in Buffalo NY and worked at Frank & Theresa's Anchor Bar, will these wings stack up to the original ? If they do, :D:D:D:D:D one happy cruiser.

Nope. Most things on a cruise ship have their own spin. Pizza for example. Wings for another. But if you open yourself to a new experience, you will enjoy them.

And don't be afraid to ask for them to be another way (crispier, hotter, etc.) and they will most likely do their best.

In any case, have a great cruise!

  7. You may buy as many specials as you like and store them for later. If you ask your room steward to empty the mini-bar fridge, they will!

If you are in a full suite you may order room service from pretty much any of the restaurants during meal times. It's a great perk. Otherwise, as was stated, there is a room service menu.

I don't know for sure, but I believe the "close" time can vary from ship to ship and restaurant to restaurant and day to day, depending on how busy they are.

    Have a great cruise!

  8. A possible inexpensive solution to check into is to book all 6 into the suite, if it holds 6, and then book an inside across the hall for the extra sleeping and bathing. This way everyone has paid for the suite perks, but you also get the room you need.

Haven't done it myself, but I think I read that someone had.

They will not let you book this. At least one person will have to be booked into the inside room and they will not officially be allowed the suite perks. I asked about this for a cruise a year ago and this is the official line. What actually happens on the ship? I have no idea.

  9. One of my favorite minis on Deck 11 is one that is Aft because it's a hop, skip and a jump to the Spa! It's well worth it to have at least one Spa pass and you can use the extra showers, toilet, etc. as well as the sauna and steam!

Here is a little trick we discovered: the light switch for the closet is hard to find because there is very little room between the bed and the door. Once you find it, it is much easier to use that closet!

From a CC review: "The closet in the mini-suites is located adjacent to the bed, facing the center of the room. The configuration requires reaching sideways to access the shelving since there is not a door that opens to that part of the closet. It isn't an ideal design, but is made much easier when you discover that there is, indeed, a light in the closet. It's hidden: Almost at eye-level, there is a little button at the back. Press it and presto! Light! The button is visible in the dark since it emits a soft glow, but if you don't know it's there, it makes the closet difficult to use."

    Bon voyage!

  10. It would be crowded but worth it! The kids can have the sofa bed

Make sure to get the foam mattress toppers for both that bed and the 2nd bedroom bed, makes it very doable.

With all the wonderful perks and special treatment you get, I would say go for it!

If you look at it as "roughing it" with suite perks and have a good attitude, I bet you will be happy.

    The extra bathroom really helps.

    Enjoy!

  11. When I think back on our Panama Canal cruise with my 80 something Mom, I shudder!

We did not get insurance, didn't think we would need it, saved the money for spending. (Turned out we did not need it.)

We flew into Los Angeles THE SAME MORNING as the cruise!

We had so much time to spare we actually checked into a nice hotel for a few hours (it was a 6 in the morning flight from SLC to Long Beach) and went swimming and then headed to the ship.

    We had a wonderful cruise!

And then I joined Cruise Critic and woke up screaming in the middle of the night! Think of the things that could easily go wrong!

Now we always buy good insurance and arrive a day early. So much more fun and peaceful! And worry-free!

  12. What website am I on? People on cruise critic never agree on anything ;)

I think when it comes to being able to sail in a suite for less money than in a non-suite, you will get a LOT of agreement! And for the OP, this is your first NCL cruise, so prepared to be blown away by the Suite Life.

  13. Just when I am ready to swear off CC because of long, sad rants about how bad parents or cigarette smokers or chair hogs or....you know what I'm sayin'. And then along comes mydreamvacation with a generosity of spirit and joie de vivre that just makes me all happy! Thanks so much!
