  1. Thank you gail-s and rdhed.  Very much appreciated.

@gail-s, I have been to two Miami H-D locations, but it was way back in 2007 and 2009.  At that time they were both called Petersons H-D, but it has been a long time, so I have no recent information to offer.

  2. We will be in Freeport and Nassau this coming February.  I collect Harley-Davidson t-shirts.

Can anyone let me know if there are dealerships/shops in both these ports?  If so, can you please let me know where they are in relation to the ports?

    Many thanks!

I was at Icy Strait Point and Juneau this week. Allow me to clarify.

There are two gondola lifts at Icy Strait Point. The green one - called the Transporter - is free and transits between Wilderness Landing and the Adventure Center. It may have been $15 at one point but it is not any more. Note the FREE sign.

The red gondola - called Sky Glider - goes up the mountain from Wilderness Landing and costs $49.95 for unlimited rides. It is included with the ZipRider because it is the only way to get to the launch point.

The trams at ISP are like you would see in the parking lots at theme parks. They were not in use when I was there but may be at certain times.

Juneau has an aerial tramway that goes up Mount Roberts called the Goldbelt Tram. Not to be confused with the trams or gondolas at Icy Strait Point.

Thank you!  That clarifies things for me.

I knew there was a gondola that took people from dock to dock, but I was wondering if there were two gondolas.  Now I know.

  4. We would like to see the Mendenhall Glacier on our own.  We would rather not pay for a tour, which seems to be about $40 - $45 per person.  We are a party of 7 and that is too rich for our blood.  We are aware that there is a $5 entrance fee to the Visitor Centre.  All we want is a shuttle bus to and from the glacier, but without the tour.  Is there a shuttle only available from the pier, and of so, what is the price?

We thought about hiring two taxis to take us there, but the message above was enlightening with the $12 pp fee to the visitor centre.

  5. We were on the sister ship, the Breakaway where we ate at all three main dining rooms.  The menus were identical for all three.  Reservations were not required and the wait times were no more than 15-20 minutes.

Of the three dining rooms, we preferred the Manhattan, which I assume is the equivalent of the Getaway's Tropicana.  It was the largest of the three dining rooms.   It had live music and a dance floor.

On the two nights where there was a production show, we made reservations prior to cruising.  The Maitre d' seated us at tables next to the dance floor.  Not that there was a lot of dancing. The dancers were mostly kids and they were close to the stage.  The one time we did not have a reservation, we were seated much further from the dance floor.  No big deal, though.

For us, we were fine at any of the dining rooms, but my personal preference was the Manhattan Room as it was the largest dining room, with live music and it felt like a main dining room on a cruise ship.  The Savor and Taste were smaller venues and they felt more like a restaurant than a main dining room.

  6. On our 9 day cruise on the Norwegian Breakaway, we chose the Social Media option, which was unlimited access to Facebook.

I was able to upload lots of pictures and it was pretty quick.  Also, I was able to use the internet without any issue.  My 14 year old son was also able to use the internet on his phone when I was not logged in.  So you can transfer this on various devices, but you can only use one device at a time.

The cost for this was $135.00 for the 9 days.

  7. We were in the Baltics from August 18 to 27th on the Breakaway.

The majority of the time we had great weather. It rained in the afternoon in Copenhagen a day before the cruise, but the temperature was hot. Berlin was sunny and hot. We had rain in the afternoon of our sea day, and it was a little cool. For the rest of the trip, it was sunny (overcast one day in St. Petersburg) and it was cool. It was raining in Copenhagen when we returned. There were some windy days throughout as well.

Definitely bring a jacket with you.

  8. On the Breakaway in August, there was a show called "Rock the Pour House" at Syd Normans. I'm not sure if that was the name of the band, or the show. Anyway, the band featured a singer named Mig, who was a contestant on a reality show "Rockstar: INXS". He was high energy, and a lot of fun.

The band played all sorts of Rock & Roll favourites. The venue reminded me of a neighbourhood bar. The drinks were good. The venue was always full, but people did come and go, so if you wait a bit, you could get a seat, and move even closer to the stage as other people get up and leave.

Syd Normas was one of my favourite spots on the Norwegian Breakaway.

  9. Did anyone use Best guides for other baltic ports?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

We used Best Gudes for both St. Petersburg and Berlin.

It turned out that our Best Guides Tour to Berlin was conducted by TJ Travel. To us there was no difference as to which company we used, the excursion to Berlin was excellent. The personnel at TJ had us on their list and did not discriminate because we were paying their "competion". Everything was well organized and we had a great time.

Our Berlin tour was three days ahead of our St. Petersburg tour. We paid for both tours in St. Petersburg on the morning of our second day of our two day St. Petersburg excursion.

For the record, we used the following tour companies on our Baltic Sea cruise:

Copenhagen - Hamlet Tours - Grand Inner City Tour

Warnemunde - Best Guides - Classical Berlin

Tallinn - Saku Travel - Tallinn Highlights On Wheels and On Foot

St. Petersburg - Best Guides - All St. Petersburg Grand

Helsinki - SPB Tours - Panoramic Helsinki + Seurasaari Island

Nynashamn - SPB Tours - Stockholm Highlights from Nynashamn

    • Thanks 1
  10. We originally booked a Sailaway Mini Suite taking our chances on where they would put us. They put us in a Mini Suite with a large balcony, which I though was decent. The catch is that we are close to the front of the ship. My wife is worried about the motion.

    We shall see in August!
