  1. Thank you for your pictorial. I have never been on a Fantasy class ship, but I always enjoy seeing pictures of them.

I am also surprised that Carnival ships go to Little Stirrup Cay (Coco Cay). But years ago I was surprised when our Carnival ship stopped off at Half Moon Cay with the Holland American flag, not knowing that the two cruise lines were related.

    Thanks once again!

  2. Thank you for doing this review Jamman54! I am really enjoying it so far and looking forward to what happens next.

What I really like are your pictures around the ship and I have never been on the Splendor before. Also, I enjoyed your pictures sailing out of New York. It is so different than sailing out of a Florida port.

    Anyhow, thanks for your pictorial.

  3. Hey trippingpara, thanks for your review. I have been reading it over the last couple of weeks and have finally caught up.

I love this itinerary! Your pictorial makes me want to do it again. We did it with the Carnival Victory several years ago. Also, the way you write makes me feel like we are close pals.

Thanks very much for taking the time doing this and I look forward to the conclusion of your pictorial.

  4. Are there any goodies like t-shirts or prizes included for the price. $$ seem high for what they mention in the description. We definitely are interested in this excursion, just want to get value for our dollars.

    Thanks!

We did this excursion back in November 2012 and really enjoyed it. We came in last place. If you are looking for something unique, this is the excursion for you!

The only free stuff you get is a free drink at the end of the race. You can also purchase t-shirts, hats and pictures at the finish line.

  5. We were going to book a cruise for the winter, but saw that the Canadian Dollar was dropping like a rock.

This time we opted for an all-inclusive in Cuba, which the price was in Canadian Dollars. Plus a trip to Cuba is relatively inexpensive compared to paying for a cruise in U.S. Dollars.

The money that we had left over from our Cuban trip will hopefully go toward our next cruise, as long as the exchange rates improve.

  6. can you tell me more about what is right off the ship? I know you mentioned duty free shops, doesn't sound like shopping is a good idea per se? But we just kind of like to get off the ship and wander around a little bit. Will that work here?

Eg4-It's a port that carnival built in the DR. Think Mahogany Bay in Honduras.

You're on our sailing. Have your joined our Roll Call? If not stop by!

We were at La Romana last February. There really is nothing much at the port other than the dock and a duty free shop. The usual suspects of stores, Diamond International, etc. are not at this port. The duty free shop offers bottles of booze, shot glasses, coffee mugs, and the regular junky-junk-junk of souvenirs.

We booked a private tour (Sevis Rio Chavron tour) where we had to get a taxi. The taxi situation at the port is pretty bad there. Unfortunately the private tour operators have no control over that. Eventually our group made it to our tour.

I wouldn't say that things are unsafe outside of this port, but as with anywhere, I would always keep an eye open. If you look like a tourist, someone will try to take advantage of you.

There is nothing in La Romana that is interesting or visually appealing. However, there is a nice beach where some of the private tours go. Also it is in close proximity to Punta Cana where all the resorts are.

Hope my experience is of help to you.

  7. We had two cove balconies on the Breeze. The partition between the balconies was opened so that we could have a larger balcony. We loved the cove balcony! Also the floor space on the balcony is larger because the bulkhead is at an angle. More leg room for me!

As long as you don't mind the life boats overhead, you don't get as much sun as you would a normal balcony. You are closer to the water, which was a plus for us.

The only negative, and it is really minor, is if the crew is servicing the lifeboats, it may be a little noisy. Also, one time the crew had a hose and was washing something (I don't know what), but I got splashed a little bit. It wasn't a big deal to me.

I like regular balconies, but I wouldn't hesitate to cruise in a cove once again.
