Sorry to read of your poor experience but also confused

In your first post you said you complained to the Maitre D and in the above Post you said you responded with " raised eye brows or 'fine' ". When the Maitre D comes round always tell them the truth otherwise nothing will change. On our one and only Cunard cruise (Queen Mary 2 - New York to Southampton ) when the Head Chef put in an appearance half (yes half) the restaurant stood up and booed - he got the message loud and clear.

Oh gosh that’s awkward! Poor man. Would imagine the chefs are not loving the restrictions on budget either. I think executive office is the way to direct these issues. It’s coming from the top so complain to the top.

  3. August is when the Italians have whole month off, and makes everything very busy everywhere, combined with super hot weather. For this itinerary, ideally May/June or September, but, April definitely over August every time... Excursions would mean lots of waiting in traffic in August, queues to get into attractions etc. April is spring time, very pretty and much less crowded (assuming its not Easter week)

  4. Murano! The setting is special, make sure to have a drink at the ensemble bar beforehand, the souffles are wonderful, (savoury and dessert) my husbands favourite dessert is Crepe Balon Rouge, they make a crepe tableside, flambe strawberries and serve in the crepe with ice cream. We always have to go at least twice to enjoy all the dishes on the menu...

Happy Anniversary to you both! Enjoy your cruise  😊

  5. Great advice already given, also try to meet the Restaurant Manager, and let him know, he can pass to  the dining staff so they are aware.  There may be a dietary meeting offered, at check in, again a good place to discuss, as they make notes and pass back to the catering dept.  Will she have the Daisy lanyard with her?

The Petit chef while it is sounds/lights, is not too rowdy, from recollection, and very entertaining.

Another great option might be the Lawn Club, this is a very relaxed family style place to dine, and you can prepare your own flatbread pizzas, and choose from a salad bar etc. (Desserts to die for)

I hope you all have a great cruise, it is a beautiful ship!

    Hi there

Thanks for all the information, I found it really useful, we’re doing the same cruise next week with out family of 6, 2 older teens and two young adults and ourselves

As a first time cruiser, could I ask a couple of questions, I’m bamboozled at the amount of information available.

We have quite a bit of OBC, c2000, I don’t think we’ll be taking cruise trips, we’re all good travellers and used to figuring things out and they seem really expensive particularly x 6,  nor will we be doing much/any shopping etc onboard so I think we’ll likely spend it on speciality dining and drinks etc for the 4 kids, we have a basic package.

There doesn’t seem to be an option for a 2/3 night speciality one available and 4 seems too much. I booked a night 1 speciality but wondering are they likely to offer specials while we are on board or am I better to do in advance?

Also I’m not the best sea traveler, past experience of Dublin Holyhead ferry likely, we are all on deck 7 midship, balcony cabins and hoping vibrations will be ok as likely to make me queasy?

and finally, we have taxi booked at 12 from rome to port, should I make that earlier?

    Thanks a mil.

I think a four night dining package would be great, the speciality restaurants are really worth trying, at least one time each! Muranos is really special, we have to go at least twice to enjoy all the dishes, tuscan is good, lawn club grill is always a huge favourite with us and the kids, and Petit chef is unique and fun.

I also echo comments about getting there earlier.

Have a great time. This report has given a great view of what you have to look forward to!

Just as we had hoped this morning, the rain cleared and we were treated to another beautiful day in Alaska. We wandered the spit this morning enjoying the shops and the atmosphere.

We had lunch at the Boardwalk Fish & Chips. I had a clam strip basket and DW had a traditional fish with coleslaw instead of the chips

After lunch we came across some folks getting their catch of halibut filleted. Then we ended up at Coal Point Processing where some other people were bringing in their salmon, some had been filleted, others just gutted. Everything was going to be vacuum sealed and frozen.

We spent about 4 hours on the Spit and while I needed to take a break at times, we had another great day.

After a little rest at our hotel we walked a few blocks and came across this stack of bouys on our way to dinner at AJ's Seakhouse.

AJ's  has a great menu that includes some handhelds and small plates, plus many local fish items, a fantastic selection of USDA prime Steaks and several daily specials. I opted for an entree of fresh Kodiak Scallops and DW shared part of her 12 oz NY strip. Both were great, but the scallops might have been the best I've ever had! This is another place you need to book in advance, so if you're planning to come to Homer be sure to make a reservation before you get here.

We walked back to our hotel, enjoyed the view and realized a week in Alaska probably doesn't get any better than this.

Tomorrow we head out to Seward to board the ship and begin the second half of our Alaskan adventure!

I just love this report so much, what an incredible trip! Bucket list for sure.
